The Spy - Recap

Jim goes to a rooftop loft and picks up his briefing from a locked compartment. He’s informed that a secret detailed map of NATO’s missile defense system has been prepared on two overlays. They were sent to a meeting between NATO and an uncommitted European nation. Felicia Vabar, an enemy spy, has intercepted one overlay and has recruited Captain Miklos Cherno, head of security for the uncommitted country, to get her the second overlay. The IMF must keep Felicia from getting the second overlay.

Jim assembles the usual team and they go over the floorplan. The vault seals automatically during an alert, including an air raid. Felicia plans to access the vault so the team plans to use her own plan but initiate it early. Only the Minister of Defense knows the IMF is involved and they have to keep everyone else at the headquarters ignorant. They have a Very gun ready and Rollin has hypnotized Jim so that he won’t remember anything from when he fires the Very gun until either 4 p.m. or they prepare to kill him.

Cherno goes to see Felicia and demands more money, and she reluctantly agrees. Jim arrives at military headquarters as a replacement for Cherno’s masseur. Barney taps into the air raid system outside while Cinnamon goes in as a representative of the American embassy. Willy goes on duty disguised as a soldier while Cinnamon meets with Cherno’s superior, Colonel Dubov, to ask for his cooperation in recovering the missing overlay.

Cherno dismisses Jim at the end of the massage while Rollin drives up outside. Cinnamon sets up a mirror as a signal to Barney, who sets off the air siren early as Jim heads into the vault after knocking out the guard. Jim takes a photo of the overlay, puts the camera into a cylinder, and uses the Very pistol to fire it to Rollin. Felicia and her men are outside and she sends her men in to investigate. Barney uses a remote device to knock over the mirror, removing evidence of Cinnamon’s involvement. Jim blanks out after firing the pistol, while Rollin grabs the camera. Willy (fake) shoots at him and Rollin takes Felicia’s car and forces her at gunpoint to drive away.

Rollin drops the real camera out the window while letting Felicia catch a glimpse of the fake camera he has ready. Jim is interrogated but has no memory of anything. Barney sets up a fake roadblock and Rollin forces Felicia to get them past. Cinnamon secretly develops the film and makes a new overlay of it. Rollin forces Felicia to take him to her apartment then secretly puts a bug on the phone. Felicia offers a deal but they’re interrupted when her henchmen return. Rollin forces her to answer the door and she secretly signals them, but Rollin dives to the floor and kills them both. Felicia admits she underestimated him and still wants to negotiate.

Jim resists the truth serum and they have to wait an hour or two for him to come out of it. Rollin suggests they negotiate since each of them only has half of the plans. He asks for $100,000 and refuses to haggle, and Felicia agrees and Rollin insists they meet at his apartment in an hour. Once he leaves, she makes a call to Cherno’s office and Cinnamon intercepts the call, telling her Cherno is out. Felicia tries his home and Barney cancels out the call. Finally she calls another henchman, Arno, with a job.

Dubov tells Cherno to get results by the end of the day or he’ll be removed. Cherno calls Felicia and Cinnamon takes a message. He then plays a game of Russian roulette with Jim while Cinnamon returns.

Felicia goes to Rollin’s apartment while Arno sneaks up the fire escape and shoots Rollin as he views the film. However, it turns out to be a dummy and Rollin reveals the film on the wall is a fake. Felicia dismisses Arno and prepares to negotiate for real, and the two of them flirt then kiss. Meanwhile, Cherno finally puts the gun to Jim’s head with the bullet in the chamber. Seeing it, Jim snaps out of his hypnosis just in time.

Rollin sets up a meeting at a warehouse while Jim offers to take Cherno to the warehouse to meet his employer. Cherno arrives there and arrests Rollin, then takes the overlay. Felicia arrives and Rollin slips away during the distraction. Cherno sends his man to find Rollin, then pins down Jim. Willy helps Rollin knock out his pursuer while Cherno demands more money from Felicia. They are unaware that Cinnamon brought Dubov to the warehouse to watch Cherno’s betrayal. Once Cherno checks the money, she shoots him in the back and Dubov shoots and kills her. A somber Rollin is left to consider Felicia’s body.
