Jim visits his friend David Webster, who is in a prison in Greece. Webster has been framed for the murder of a man he’s never heard of, George Corley, when Webster’s girlfriend Louisa took him to see Corley. Webster will be executed in 24 hours and asks for Jim’s help. Jim promises to help him and memorizes the dimensions and appearance of the cell.
Jim brings in Rollin, Willy, and Barney to help him and they agree despite the fact it’s a personal mission. Willy assembles fake wall segments from Jim’s descriptions and they go over the file. Corley’s body was rendered unrecognizable by twin shotgun blasts to the face. Barney prepares a hearing aid for Rollin to give to Webster.
Barney and Willy go to the prison dressed as priests, and convince Captain Barrera to let them see Webster. Barney gets into Louisa’s house disguised as a telephone repairman and bugs her phone. Jim goes to Corley’s home and searches the place, finding a secret compartment with a box in it. However, when he leaves a man knocks him out and takes him inside.
Inside Webster’s cell, Willy reveals the fake wall segments underneath his robe and they put them up, having Webster hide behind them in the narrow gap. They then quietly leave and when the guards check the cell a few minutes later, find that Webster has seemingly vanished.
Jim wakes up and is greeted by Constantine, who was financing Corley to steal a $10 million crown. Jim claims to be a private investigator hired to clear Webster, and Constantine figures that Webster killed Corley and hid the crown. Jim agrees to work with Constantine to find the crown and leaves.
Rollin disguises himself as Webster then confronts Louisa, claiming she helped frame him. Louisa denies it but after he leaves, Louisa calls a man, Warner, and arranges a meeting. Jim and Willy follow her to a warehouse where she meets Warner, who talks about how he’s waiting to recover from the surgery on his face. Warner kills Louisa to keep her silent and Jim and Willy burst in. Warner flees but falls through a weak railing and dies in the fall. The dying Louise mentions “George” and Willy figures out that Warner was wearing contact lenses to conceal his eye color, which matches Corley. They quickly determine that Warner is in fact Corley after plastic surgery. Searching the place, they find the missing crown.
Barney makes a crush-proof fire-proof sphere and puts the crown in it. They still have no proof to clear Webster so they make a pair of glasses that match Corley’s prescription, then smash them and leave them with Corley/Warner’s body. Barney then works on a car, setting it up to drive by remote control, and Rollin disguises himself as Corley.
Jim then goes to Barrera and claims to be an insurance investigator hired to recover the crown. He asks Barrera to announce there’s a reward for the crown, figuring that will lure out the escaped Webster. Barrera agrees but secretly has Jim’s apartment bugged. Jim goes back to his apartment where Constantine is waiting for him. Jim admits he’s an insurance investigator scheming to sell the crown and offers Constantine half of the $10 million. Constantine agrees but also secretly bugs Jim’s apartment.
Rollin then fakes a phone call as Corley to Jim, setting up a meeting to give him the crown and collect the reward. Meanwhile, the police have found Louisa’s body, and thanks to the glasses at the scene figure out that Corley was involved and is still alive. When “Corley” calls Jim, both Barrera and Constantine listen in then head for the meeting place.
On the empty road where the meeting is to take place, Constantine arrives and Rollin (disguised as Corley) knocks him out. Barrera arrives with Jim and sees the whole thing, figuring Corley is still alive. Rollin drives away and Barrera gives choice. Once he’s briefly out of sight, Rollin gets out and puts Corley’s corpse in the driver’s seat. Barney drives the car away with Barrera in hot pursuit, and finally drives it off the cliff. Barrera checks the wreckage and finds the dead Corley as well as the crown in its crash-proof case, and is forced to close the case. Jim points out that he’ll have to release Webster since it’s clear he didn’t murder Corley. Meanwhile, Webster slips out of the fake wall and asks for a cigarette, astonishing the guards.
