Jim picks up his briefing at an observatory and is informed that Orin Selby is am American agent that has infiltrated an enemy intelligence organization. Chief of Security Helmat Kellerman suspects Selby and has captured a courier, Marceau, who can incriminate Selby. The IMF must prevent Kellerman from successfully interrogating Marceau and preserve Selby’s cover.
Jim meets with Rollin, Cinnamon, and Barney, and they plan to strike at Kellerman’s underling Brocke. Barney has a lighter that shoots knockout gas and a film machine that allows him to mix two different frames, putting two people together who have never met. Finally, Barney has liquid nitrogen standing by in case they need it.
Brocke, Selby’s underling, talks to his supposedly superior, while his real boss Kellerman listens in. Selby, who knows about Kellerman’s hidden bug, says that he’s complaining to headquarters about the fact that Kellerman has taken over Marceau’s interrogation. Brocke goes to Kellerman, who is unconcerned. Rollin arrives as HQ’s investigator and quickly lets Selby know what he’s up to. They fake a conversation for Kellerman’s benefit where Selby accuses Kellerman of being the double agent. Kellerman comes in to interrupt and arranges a meeting with Rollin for later. He then interrogates Marceau, who is close to breaking.
Kellerman meets with Rollin at his hotel, and Rollin acts sympathetic, but can only give him 24 hours to break Marceau before headquarters will give him back to Selby. Jim and Barney film the entire conversation, with Rollin on one side and Kellerman on the other. After Kellerman leave, the two take measurements of the room so that Barney can go to work on the film
Kellerman plans to give Selby the blueprints for the interrogation center. Then, when he sends the Americans in using the blueprints, Kellerman can prove he’s the traitor. He plans to have Brocke give the blueprints to Selby. Cinnamon follows Brocke, who goes to visit his girlfriend Stephanie. After he leaves, Jim arrests her claiming to be with headquarters. Kellerman is informed of the arrest and concludes that Jim is the American agent working with Selby. Cinnamon then stages a fake bike accident with Brocke, and Kellerman concludes from it that she’s an American working with Brocke and Selby. He has her followed and recovers a package that she’s dropped off. The ribbon is magnetic recording tape which confirms that Cinnamon is an American agent.
Barney has merged the half-film of Kellerman (meeting with Rollin) and a half-film of Jim, making it appear that the two are having a conversation that Kellerman is a traitor and is planning on framing Brocke. Meanwhile, Jim plants a passport and hidden money in Stephanie’s coat. They play the film on a projector for Stephanie’s benefit in the next room, then let her escape. She calls Brocke and informs him that Kellerman is the traitor. Brocke goes to Selby who (fake) doesn’t believe him and tells him he should get out of the country with Stephanie. Brocke takes his advice and flees with his girlfriend.
Kellerman lets Rollin interrogate Marceau without results, and reveals that the prisoner is hooked up to a bomb so that any attempt to move him will set off the booby trap. Rollin sends Jim a coded message, confirming what they suspected.
Jim, Barney, and Cinnamon leave the hotel and Kellerman’s agent reports to his boss that they’re heading for the interrogation center. Kellerman has captured Brocke and Stephanie and when he discovers the money, convinces her to testify against her boyfriend rather then confirm what she “saw” via the projector. Rollin takes her away then slips down to the air conditioner and releases knockout gas into the building while taking an antidote. Jim and the others come in dressed as doctors, and Barney freezes the bomb so he can free Marceau. Rollin and Jim bring the unconscious Kellerman down to the cell and leave him outside the open door.
While the others get Marceau to the ambulance, Rollin wakes up Brocke and says that Kellerman went down to the cells. They get down there and find Marceau missing and Kellerman nearby, unconscious. The frustrated Brocke decides that rather then take the blame, he’ll dispose of Kellerman who is clearly the traitor. Rollin promises him that he’ll be reinstated with Selby and leaves. As he heads for the ambulance, he hears a gunshot as Brocke guns down his confused superior. The team then quietly makes its escape with Marceau.
