The Falcon (2) - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
As Paris hangs from the trellis, the guard stands below. The agent’s hands start to slip but the guards goes inside just in time.

Barney is in the ceiling above the royal tomb and drills a hole, using a small vacuum to suck away the debris.

Paris returns to his room and assures Tracey that Francesca is okay. The two of them then prepare the Nicolai disguise for Paris, putting the Nicolai mask beneath a Paris mask.

Barney drills through the ceiling and looks through the hole as Jim and the Amsterdam art group enter the mausoleum. Jim spots the hole and Barney drops one of the stolen gems from the crown jewels down to him.

Vargas meets with the Asian representative, Captain Buccaro. The head of security warns that Sabattini won’t be easy to dispose of, and tells Buccaro that his Chinese paymasters will have to be patient. Sabattini comes in, dressed for his wedding, and Buccaro warns him that the Asians are impatient before leaving. He confirms that the guests have arrived for the wedding and Vargas goes to get Francesca. As he leaves, Sabattini reminds him that he is the best chance he has to gain power for himself.

As the Amsterdam cultural society leaves the palace grounds, Barney is crawling through the underspaces. The floor gives out beneath him and he falls through to the lower level, hitting his head and getting knocked unconscious.

The guests gather for the performance because the bishop is running late. They are unaware that Willy, posing as a peasant farmer, is bringing the bishop to the castle by cart. Willy deliberately messes up, assuring him that he’s taking a shortcut to the cathedral, and the bishop tells him that he needs to go to the palace and that he came from the cathedral. They turn around and proceed slowly to the palace.

Impatient with waiting, Nicolai demands that they see the performance at 1 p.m, the time that Paris insisted upon. Sabattini points out that they never have the entertainment before the ceremony, but Paris arrives and insists that he is leaving if he is not allowed to perform at the specified time. The general invites him to leave, but Nicolai refuses to sign the wedding document if Paris isn’t allowed to perform. Sabattini has no choice but to give in.

The bishop catches a ride with a passing motorcyclist.

Paris begins his show and asks for a volunteer. Nicolai eagerly comes up for the cabinet illusion and enters one of the two boxes. Sebastian, disguised as Paris, injects the king with a sedative and hides him in the box. Paris enters the other cabinet and removes the mask of his face, revealing the Nicolai mask beneath. The two men then step out, making it appear that they have simply switched places.

In the van, Jim places a small projector in his briefcase.

Sebastian-Paris invites Paris-Nicolai to name anyone he can see. Paris says Stephan, and Sebastian uses a rigged bulb to project an image of Stephan onto a cloud of smoke. The “king” then asks to see Tracey perform her mind reading routine. Tracey appears, holding Lucifer, and Sebastian has Paris write some numbers down and give them to Vargas for safekeeping Tracey divines the numbers, much to Vargas’ astonishment. Meanwhile, Sabattini impatiently checks his watch.

Barney wakes up but realizes that the concussion has almost entirely blinded him.

Tracey “predicts” that some other great event will occur at the palace that afternoon, and says that there is a man in the room who has many decisions to make.

Barney contacts Jim by radio and tells him what has happened. They can’t call off the plan and Jim says that he’ll talk Barney through. Barney gives his location and Jim uses the blueprints to direct him to the tombs. Meanwhile, the bishop arrives at the gates and Jim informs Tracey via the transmitter in her earring. She ends the performance and Paris objects. Tracey “predicts” that the bishop has arrived, and Vargas receives word that Tracey is correct.

Jim continues to guide Barney through the passageways, but more of the floor gives way. Barney manages to grab a pipe and pull himself up, and then make his way across a narrow ledge on the side.

Vargas escorts Francesca into the chapel, unaware that she has the gun that Paris gave her. Paris escorts her to the altar and she secretly takes the IMF pill as the bishop begins the ceremony. As planned, Paris “finds” the gun and struggles with her. Francesca fires the first, real bullet, shattering a lamp. Paris then shoots her with the second bullet, the blank. The pill kicks in, “killing” Francesca, and a hidden blood bag provides the appropriately fatal wound. Sabattini orders everyone out of the room while Vargas looks at Tracey, realizing she predicted the entire thing.

The bishop performs the last rites while Paris begs Francesca for forgiveness. Vargas asks Tracey if she knew, and she admits that she did. When he wonders why she didn’t stop it, Tracey tells him that she has foreseen that Sabattini’s plan will fail. She offers to discuss Vargas’ future with him in private and he has the guard captain take Tracey to her room. Meanwhile, Paris insists that they bury Francesca immediately.

Jim continues to guide Barney, warning him that Francesca will be buried in a few minutes and will only have five minutes of air. Meanwhile, Paris carries Francesca to the tomb and puts her into one of the drawers. He then tells the bishop to close it immediately and the man complies.

The pill’s effects wear off and Francesca realizes that she’s been entombed. She claws at the roof and screams for help. Meanwhile, Barney gets to the proper wall and drills a hole into the tomb. As his vision starts to return, Barney feeds in oxygen via tube and Francesca revives.

Willy starts removing Sebastian’s equipment as Vargas informs the magician that Tracey will be staying at the palace. Sebastian protests but finally leaves, goes to the van, and removes his Paris mask.

Barney cuts open the wall and makes sure that Francesca is alive. Meanwhile, Willy starts removing the equipment, including the cabinet containing Nicolai.

Vargas protests to Sabattini, warning that they have nothing if Francesca is dead. He insists that they eliminate Stephan and Nicolai and take the government by force.

Barney has Francesca put on a set of coveralls and then they climb up into the case that he came in. Willy removes that case as well.

Jim comes to see Sabattini, using the stolen gem to pique his interest. Vargas calls the guards and has them confirm that all of the crown jewels are fakes. Jim tells Sabattini that Stephan came to him and wanted to sell the jewels. Now he wants 30% of the jewels and offers to persuade Stephan to tell him where they are.

Willy drives out with Barney, Francesca, Nicolai, and Sebastian. Down the road, they convert the van into a water company van while Barney drives away in another truck marked as gas company.

Jim says that Stephan wrote an incriminating letter and figures that other countries would pay a great deal for it. Sabattini agrees and Jim says that he needs to talk to Stephan now. Jim signals Tracey, who calls Vargas just as he prepares to leave for the prison with Jim and Sabattini. She tells him that knows that the crown jewels are missing and she can find them. However, Tracey tells him not to tell Sabattini since the general plans to kill Vargas. Vargas plays along and Tracey tells him to come to her room once Sabattini is gone.

Once Sabattini is gone, Vargas meets with Tracey and asks where the crown jewels are. She refuses and Vargas warns that Stephan might talk. Tracey assures him that she has foreseen that Stephan won’t talk, and explains that they need to engineer Sabattini’s removal first. When he says that his Asian backers will support him, Tracey says that they’ll kill Vargas. His only chance is to run, taking the crown jewels with him.

Paris, still disguised as Nicolai, breaks into Sabattini’s office. Using an electronic device, he starts to open the hidden safe.

Tracey warns Vargas that Sabattini plans to kill him soon. Vargas doesn’t believe it, insisting that Sabattini needs him. However, Tracey offers to prove it by directing him to an execution list that Sabattini has prepared, one with Vargas’ name on it. When Vargas points out that no one knows the combination except Sabattini and he can’t get at it, Paris radios her the combination via her earring. She gives it to Vargas, who immediately says that they should go and check.

Paris opens the safe and writes Vargas' name into Sabattini’s book... as Vargas and Tracey arrive outside.
