Princess Party - Recap

The scene opens with Hailey yelling at Claire that she doesn’t want to do her homework because she has a learning disability. Claire tells that they had her tested already and she doesn’t have one. Phil covers Hailey’s mouth and leads her to the room where Alex and Luke are there too. Phil tells that Claire’s mother, Dede, is coming and that Claire is going to be on edge. He tells them to be on their best behavior and they agree. Meanwhile, Cameron asks which shoes to go with and Mitchell tells that he won’t let Cam dress up like Fizbo the Clown for Lily’s birthday because it is a Princess party.

Nana Dede comes in and Alex is playing the Jaws theme on her cello at the same time. She is happy to see Claire, but it is clear that Claire is not happy to see her. At Gloria and Jay’s house, Gloria comes in and tells that she got the best gift for Lily. It is a record yourself storybook. Jay tells that it is not a good idea. He brings up the answer machine time and they show Jay and Gloria try to record a message and Gloria doesn’t say beep because people will think that it is the beep. They argue and Gloria gets frustrated and walks away. Back at Claire and Phil’s, Claire and Dede talk about how she and her old boyfriend couldn’t keep their hands off each other. Hailey is listening in closely. Phil tells Luke to try to be cute now, but it doesn’t work. Robbie, Claire’s old boyfriend from High School arrives and Dede told him to show up and tells that they can loosen Claire up with a Fuzzy Wine Cooler.

Phil walks up and asks who it is and she introduces Robbie. Phil introduces himself to Robbie as Claire’s husband. Robbie is confused because Dede didn’t tell him that Claire was married with kids. Dede tells that she told Robbie that Claire is still trying to figure out her life and tells that not everything is about her. Robbie tells that he works for a limo service after Luke sees that Robbie is driving around in one. Claire talks to Dede in the kitchen and she tells that it would have been a hoot for Claire to see him again. Gloria, Jay and Manny record their voices reading the story and Jay doesn’t like it. Manny wants to redo it because he would have done it different after he finds out that the Baby Bear was a girl. Gloria tells that she is not going to the party because Dede is going to be there. Jay is happy because he doesn’t want to go to her friend’s daughter’s first communion coming up.

Claire calls Mitchell and tells that Robbie is having dinner with her family. Mitchell tells that he never liked him because he always put him in a headlock. Cam comes out dressed in his costume, but has modified it and now is Fizbo the Court Jester. Mitchell still says no to the fact that Cam wants to be a clown at the party. Gloria comes back to Jay and tells him that she is going to the party regardless of Dede because she shouldn’t care what people think of her and she will do fine. At the dinner table at Claire and Phil’s, Dede and Robbie reminisce when Claire was younger and how she didn’t listen to rules. Hailey likes their conversation more and more. Claire tells that the conversation is not appropriate and Robbie tells that he has to get going anyways. Claire is happy that she didn’t lash out on her mother and she sees that Robbie forgot his phone. She goes out to give it back and Claire and Phil see Dede making out with Robbie.

The day of the party arrives and Cam is not happy that there is a princess there and he can’t be a clown. Mitchell comes up and tells that the party is going well. Claire arrives and tells that Dede went home with Robbie and snuck in when Claire was asleep. This morning she left a note saying that she was having breakfast with Robbie. Gloria and Jay arrive and Gloria is drunk. She was nervous and took a Zanex and a shot of tequila. She tells that she is happy to be there. Cam walks up to the princess and asks how she would like to be paid. She stays in character and tells that she doesn’t need money. Cam pressures her and the princess breaks character. Cam chastises her and tells that he never broke character when he was a clown. Dede arrives with Robbie and Claire is going to kill her. Mitchell holds her back and tells that it is Lily’s party. Jay tells that it is all about him because that he got the young girl and so he has to get the young guy. Gloria comes up and gives her a hug.

Mitchell goes up to Robbie to say hello to him and Claire rips into Robbie about hooking up with her mother. Robbie tells that he has always had a thing for Dede. Robbie takes that as that Claire still wants him. Dede accuses Claire as stealing the Robbie from her and she lashes out on her. Jay tells Robbie to leave and Robbie tells that he thinks that the princess is digging him and tells that his intimidation doesn’t affect him, but he tells that he needs to go. Mitchell tells Cam to put on his clown costume and make the party nice. Jay talks to Dede and tells that Claire is always nervous when Dede is there and Dede tells that she knows what the problem is. She than tackles a drunk Gloria and Phil runs in to save Gloria. Later that night, Mitchell and Cam show Lily her book and hear the story read. Jay asks for a drink in the middle and hear Gloria argue.
