The Musical Man - Recap

The scene opens with Phil asking Claire if she is the cute woman in his new advertisement. She asks Phil if she is going to regret it posing for the ad and Phil tells that it is going to be great and that they are going to get a lot of business from it. He shows the ad that says “I Can’t Be Satisfied Until Your Satisfied” and it has a picture of the entire family. Alex skips in and Claire asks what she is so excited about. Alex tells that Hailey’s SAT scores are online. They see that she scored average and Alex is not happy. However, when the topic of college comes up and Hailey tells that she is not going, Alex is happy again. Meanwhile, Cam is playing a song on the piano and Mitchell tells that Cam is the musical director of Franklin Middle School. Mitchell tells him that he needs to watch out because Cam can get a little too enthusiastic. Cam tells Mitchell to be in his corner for once and Mitchell tells that he is going to be.

At Jay and Gloria’s, Manny is asking the phone to have Emma call him. Gloria asks who Emma is and Manny tells that it is a girl that he is trying to get with at school. Gloria tells Manny that he has to woo her. Jay walks in and shows that he took a picture of his butt so that whenever his brother, Donnie, calls, it will pop up. Donnie comes in and Donnie tells Gloria that she could get a Green Card some other way. They start to wrestle and Gloria tells that she doesn’t understand their relationship. Later at school, Manny tries to talk to Emma, but she is distracted by Luke. She laughs and Manny thinks that it is immature. Cam gathers the students around and tells them that they are going to have to pay attention. Meanwhile, Claire talks to Phil and Phil asks if she has seen the van. She says that she has been busy and has not yet. They get into the van without looking at the advertisement and drive off. They show the ad and it has Claire on the side with the words “I Can’t Be Satisfied Call Me!” It has Phil, Alex and Luke on the back with the words “Until You’re Satisfied.” On the other side is a picture of Hailey with “Call Me! Let me make your dreams come true!”

At Jay’s, Gloria asks if the chair is broken and Jay tells that it is a prank for Donnie so that when he sits down, the chair will fall apart and he will spill his drink. Donnie comes in and Jay makes fun of his shirt. Donnie tells that he bought it for his granddaughter’s baptism. Gloria says that Jay doesn’t know his own brother. Meanwhile, Claire is trying to convince Hailey that going to college is good and everyone keeps honking at them. She yells out for them to call the number. Back at Jay’s, Donnie comes in to find Jay racking up for a game of pool. Jay tries to ask how things are and Donnie tells that he knew that it was a trap. Jay is confused and Donnie tells that they got all of it. Jay realizes that Donnie has cancer. Donnie walks away and Jay sits down in the prank chair and spills his drink. Back in the car, Claire tells that college is a magical time and they still don’t know about the ad.

Phil tells Alex to be ready to go to the play tonight and she tells him that his phone has been going off constantly. He answers another call and the caller is looking for the “little one” and then says that they will take both. Thinking that the guy is talking about houses and not Claire and Hailey, Phil gets excited. However, Alex shows Phil the picture of the van that Alex’s friend took a picture of. Phil sees the reason for the constant calls. He calls Claire and she is still oblivious to the ad being put on wrong. At the school, Cam gets the final touches on the play and Mitchell comes in and Manny asks to talk to him and tells that Cam is driving them insane. Mitchell tells that he needs to stand up to him. Cam tells that they are going to go through it one more time and Manny stands up for the class and tells him no. However, he tells that he is the director and they are going to do it his way.

Claire and Hailey get to the play and Phil is there to greet them. He forces Claire to not see the ad. They get inside and Cam introduces the play. Right away they have an error with not being able to get Luke down. Jay and Donnie play-fight in the theater and Gloria hits him and Donnie. Jay tells Gloria not to hit Donnie because he has cancer. Donnie gets up and leaves. Meanwhile, Phil is trying to scrape off the ad on the van. Another error happens in the play and Jay goes out to talk to Donnie. He tells that he is sorry for telling Gloria. Donnie tells that Jay changed after he found out that Donnie had cancer and Donnie says that he doesn’t like that. Jay agrees to treat him the same and punches him in the stomach.

Cam comes out and tells the kids that they have a great ending and Luke tells that his legs are tingly. He tells that he will cut him down in a bit. They have error after error and at the end the kids spell “We Love the F Word”. Claire comes out and sees the van. Phil shows her the other side and Hailey tells that she is not going home in the van. She tells that she will go home with anyone. Alex says that is what it should say on the van. Claire tells Phil that people have been honking at her all day and Phil tells that she got the most calls from people. Out of 30 calls, she got 25. Claire feels kind of good after hearing that because she was thinking that she was no longer attractive. Later, Mitchell comes up and gives Cam flowers. Luke is still up there and tells that he can feel his heartbeat in his eyes.
