Dude Ranch - Recap

The scene opens with the entire family on a plane. Phil says that this year they are going to a Dude Ranch. Claire says that is not true because all the time Haley and Phil were asking if Dylan can come with them. Claire says that she doesn’t like landing and Phil holds her hand. Dylan grabs Claire’s hand too and says that they will get through it. They get out of the plane and Gloria is trying to make her ears pop. Manny tells her to put some rouge on them and says that no one gets him. Lily is dressed like Jesse from Toy Story and Cam says that Mitchell hates Lily’s outfit. Mitchell says that he was only against Cam wearing one that matched. Mitchell and Cam tell that they are thinking of adopting a boy and they have to get a photo album together. Mitchell says that they have to get more “rugged” pictures because Cam’s photo book is too “artsy”. Cam says that it isn’t, but when Mitchell shows that it is a pop-up with music, it is clear that it is too much.

They arrive at Lost Creek Guest Ranch and Gloria’s ears haven’t popped yet and she yells at the horse. It backs away and she wonders why it is so scared. Dylan shows his lack of intelligence when he looks at the mountains and Claire asks where there is a cliff. The host, Hank, comes up and tells them that they are going learn to ride, shoot and among other things. Hank gives Manny the nickname “Hollywood” when he asks about Spas. Hank looks at Gloria and calls her “Cactus Flower” and Jay “Old Timer”. He takes Phil and Jay shooting and Phil shows his skills at skeet shooting. However, Jay isn’t looking despite the attempts of Phil trying to impress him. He brings up that Jay doesn’t respect him and says that he says “Phil is” too fast that it sounds like “Phyllis”. Jay is too busy looking at Hank hitting on Gloria. Mitchell comes up to try and Cam takes a picture of him holding a gun. Mitchell twirls around with the gun and they all duck. Jay tells Mitchell to join Manny at the Spa and not worry about the guns.

At the pool, Alex is trying to read and Luke goes up to Manny and asks him if he wants to blow something up with a firecracker. Manny tells him that is not legal. A boy named Jimmy splashes Alex and she says that she is trying to read. He jokes with her and calls her gorgeous. Meanwhile, Gloria is having fun with herding calves. Jay is having issues with his horse and Hank tells him to work the horse. Hank continues to flirt with Gloria and Claire barks orders at Phil. Hank says that Claire’s nickname is “Bossy”. Phil says that Claire needs to be nice to Dylan and says that she will make more of an effort. Alex is teaching Lily to swing and tells her not to kick her. Jimmy comes up and tells Alex to push from the back. He leans in and kisses her. Lily laughs and says that she kissed a boy and Alex says that the boy kissed her. Claire goes into Dylan’s cabin and says that they need to talk. He says that she wants him to leave, but she says that she wants to tell him that she is glad that he is there and says that he likes Dylan a lot and says that it is complicated. Dylan says that Claire is a hot mom, but can’t do this. Claire says that is not what she meant and Dylan says that he would raise the children with her if Phil wasn’t around.

Later at a campfire, the family gets a campfire dinner and Luke tells that he is still looking for something to blow up. Mitchell tells Cam that they might be rushing into a decision with adopting the family. Dylan says that he is grateful to be with the family and he asks Haley to marry him and Claire tells that is a stupid decision and tells him that they are never going to get married. Haley is upset and Dylan says that he is going to turn in. The next morning, Mitchell comes out and says that he is sorry that he said what he said. He says that he is not sure that he can do all the tough stuff. Cam says that they have this covered and Mitchell says that he doesn’t know if he can disappoint another generation from being over sensitive. Cam says that Mitchell is masculine. Gloria tells Claire that Dylan is a good guy and will stick with Haley for a long time. Haley comes up to them and asks if they have seen Dylan. She says that she hasn’t and Phil says that he probably went home and says that they will find him.

Alex goes up to Jimmy and says that he stole her first kiss. He kisses her again and says that she can have it back. She kisses him and says that she doesn’t want it anymore. She storms off. Meanwhile, Jay, Phil, Gloria, Claire and Haley get together and look for Dylan. Luke goes up to Mitchell and tells him that he is the greatest uncle. Mitchell realizes that Cam put him up to it. Luke asks if Mitchell wants to blow something up and he takes the firecracker away. Luke walks off and Mitchell has a change of heart. Phil and Jay ride and Jay is having problems with his horse. Phil says that he has been a great husband and father and Jay realizes that Hank is flirting with Gloria. He says that he is going to follow them, but his horse doesn’t move. Mitchell and Luke go over to the birdhouse and blow it up. Mitchell runs over to Cam and is excited that he blew it up.

Claire talks to Haley and says that she is sorry. Haley says that she told Dylan no, but she wanted to have the proposal. Claire says that she was just looking out for her. Dylan comes up and says that he got a job at the Dude Ranch and that they are not made for each other. Gloria yells for Dylan and Hank gets fresh with Gloria. She tells that she would never cheat on her husband. Jay rides up on Phil’s horse with Phil and Hank plays it off as it was an act. Phil says that he is only going to check “somewhat satisfied”. At the end of their trip, Alex tells that Jimmy and her would never work and Jimmy says that it is not that far away. She says that he is stupid and kisses him. Dylan says goodbye to Haley and they get in and drive back home.
