The scene opens with Phil, Gloria and Mitchell talking on the phone wondering “did she see it”; Phil explains that Claire is contesting the town council elections, and there are some unflattering comments by voters about Claire, in the newspapers. Phil tries to be the ever supportive husband by clearing all the news-stands, and warning Mitchell to keep mum. Claire comes from behind Phil, hears about the poll and snatches the newspaper from his hand; she sees the article. Back at the Dunphy house, Claire is trying to convince the family and probably herself, that the article is no big deal. The family points out that she can be a little on the edge at time, Phil as usual is ever supportive.

The family decides to help Clair with the election debate, and a bit of a personality overhaul. Its Lilly’s chance to shine, she is going to be a flower girl at a wedding. Cam adds his own spin to this by mentioning that he has been a three time ring bearer. But it turns out that the dress that has been sent for Lily isn’t that great; especially according to Mitchell and Cam. To top it all the dress has flashing lights on it. Jay is back hope and calls out for Stella; Gloria turns up instead, and taunts him for not saying ‘hello’ to her. Jay replies “why don’t you meet me at the door wagging your tail”. Suddenly, Jay sees Stella in the pool and jumps in to save her. Fishing Stella out of the pool he decides to give her swimming lessons; much to Gloria’s chagrin.
Jay lets go of Stella and she again jumps into the pool; with Jay close behind. Back at the Dunphy house, the family gears up for the mock debate; with the kids as the voters, and Phil as the mock opponent in the debate. The mock voters point out all the annoying quirks of Clair’s that might go against her. The mock debate begins, with Alex asking the questions, and the family throwing worst case scenarios at Claire; who tries her best to hold her own. The debate ends with Phil interjecting that after their onslaught, Claire is now surely ready.
Meanwhile, Cam trains Lilly in flower girl techniques; Lily begins her walk as the flower girl, and in the end shouts out an bad word. Both Cam and Mitchell are hugely surprised, with Cam running out of the room unable to control his laughter. Mitchell insists that Lily needs to be reprimanded and told that it’s wrong to swear. Just then Lily enters the kitchen and uses the bad word again in front of Cam and Mitchell. Cam once again runs away giggling. Seeing Cam, Lilly too starts giggling. The Dunphies arrive at the venue of the debate. Claire’s nerves are heightened on seeing a TV crew at the venue. The family tries their best to put her at ease, with Claire going over all the things she shouldn’t be doing. Alex gives Claire one last pep talk before the final push. Gloria, Jay and Manny along with Stella are also at the venue to support Claire.

Jay thinks Stella is suicidal and hence why she keeps jumping into the pool. Dwayne Bailey, Claries’ opponent, overhears this, he tells Jay “ besides being a public servant, I am also an award winning breeder of pugs”. He confirms that doggie suicide is common, but unfortunately not as publicized as “feline AIDS”. He also hints that, it’s probably Gloria’s negative attitude towards Stella that’s making her suicidal. Cam and Mitchell try to tech Lilly not to use the expletive, and with her using it again Cam does what is has been doing all the while, but he controls his urge to laugh and gets to reprimanding Lilly, both try to convince her to stop; she runs away promising nothing. Cam and Mitch are worried and decide to not go for the wedding, as she might blurt out the expletive there.
Back at the debate, Claire shows Dwayne what she is made of, with the facts and figures right at her fingertips. Dwanye in retaliation brings up Phil’s earlier embarrassing hotel room incident, from a few episodes ago. Claire tries her best to justify it, but is mocked by Dwayne. Claire decides to hold her own and ignore the mocking, but people from the audience begin questioning her about the incident, agitating Claire no end. She tries to get back at Dwayne, with facts about the work he has done during his tenure; but she doesn’t manage to make much headway. Phil gets up in support of his wife, trying to justify the incident, but manages to goof up the whole thing. The hilarious video of him bungling up things goes viral on YouTube, with background music and everything.
Meanwhile Jay, Gloria and Manny are getting ready for the wedding, when Gloria sees Stella veering near the pool once again. She tries to convince the dog that she doesn’t hate her. But Stella jumps, with Gloria right behind her. Jay and Manny arrive at the scene; Jay is touched by Gloria’s gesture. Jay asks for a towel, and uses it to dry Stella first, instead of Gloria, with Gloria aghast and looking on. At the wedding Cam and Mitchell pretend they did not catch the debate, but when pressured by Claire, admit that it was “phenomenal television”. Cam and Mitch display Lilly the ‘flower girl’, with flashing lights and all. Mitch tells Claire that Lilly is on a “verbal lockdown” because of the expletive incident. Alex tells Claire that she is proud of her, and that Claire isn’t the one who embarrassed her but Phil.

The bride and groom walk down the aisle, with lights flashing all over her wedding gown. Cam gets emotional, as he always does at weddings and starts to cry; seeing this Lily tries cheering him up and shouts out the expletive in the bargain, shocking everyone present. In the end, the shock turns into peals of laughter from the people present. Seeing the reaction Lilly does it again further entertaining the crow, stealing the attention from the marrying couple. The episode ends with Jay strapping a lifejacket on to Stella; and Stella trying to get sucked into the filter; with Jay accusing Gloria of saying something to Stella again. Just then Manny finds out that, Stella was just trying to get to her toy stuck in the filter, all this while. Gloria leaves in a huff. The episode ends.
