Modern Family

The Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker clan is a wonderfully large and blended family with Jay Pritchett sitting at the head. By his side is his young, vivacious second wife Gloria, who resists his old-fashioned ways -- an impulse that will become all the more interesting now that he and Gloria have a new baby of their own. This exciting addition will bring more adventures to the family just as Gloria's son, Manny, is about to embark on an adventure of his own as he enters high school. Jay's grown daughter, Claire, and her husband, Phil, also have their son, Luke, heading to high school; their middle daughter, Alex, is full steam ahead on the college track, and the eldest, Haley, is back home figuring out her future. With the kids all growing up, this new chapter means Claire can explore returning to the workforce, which will have its fair share of missteps and victories. And this will be a big year for Claire's brother and Jay's grown son, Mitchell, who alongside his loving partner, Cameron, and daughter Lily, will have a lot of reasons to celebrate. Together these three families give us an honest and often hilarious look into the sometimes warm, sometimes twisted, embrace of the modern family. (Source: ABC)

ABC throws us into the lives of a 3 generation spanning family filmed in a "mockumentary" style. I am not a big fan of "mockumentaries" but that's a personal preference. At least they keep the camera shaking and odd camera movement to a minimum. The style element used most is the "on the couch" interview of the characters which can be quite amusing at times. of bullshit, there is very little that is offensive about this show. The humor is pretty family friendly and there are a lot of jokes that just go by or happen in the background so if you're not supposed to get them, you won't. Personally I enjoy the writing style, there are big "LOOK HERE" things going on, but if you're paying attention you'll catch things like Luke mimicking Phil in some innocuous way that seems totally natural, even though when Phil did I wanted someone to slap him. Recaps
4x24: Goodnight, Gracie recap: The scene opens with Clarie saying Phil’s mom died. Alex says she was just like her. Phil comes out and hugs Phil. Cam says Phil’s mom was nice and Phil thanks Cam and Mitchell for being there. Mitchell says it is great timing. Gloria is dressed in black and says she is a wanted woman in Florida for a brothel being run under her name. Jay asks Mitchell to go to court with Gloria and he tries to say no, but decides it is for the best when they see she could be viewed as possibly running things at a brothel. Phil’s dad, Frank, comes out and welcomes everyone to Florida. Jay thinks he recognizes Frank’s neighbor. Shelly, the security officer of Leisure Park comes up and says everything is set up for Frank. She looks at Phil and tells him that there is no feeding the ducks. He pulls out bread pieces from his pockets... read more.

recap: The episode begins and Phil has a big announcement for the family. Thanks to a high-level real estate deal, he will get to use of an RV for the summer and is already dreaming of a family trip; perhaps to Yellowstone. Claire, knowing how the family really works, decides that Jolene (what Phil named the RV) is not going to work with three kids cooped up in it for hours and hours. But she decides to let Phil take them on a long drive just to prove she is right and so she wouldn't have to look like the evil parent. With the Dunphys gone, Jay and Gloria have a problem... read more.

4x20: Flip Flop recap: The episode begins with Cam showing the Pritchetts and the Dunphys around the house that he and Claire have renovated, so they can sell it for a good price. They all raise a toast to a project successfully completed and Phil is sure people will soon be "clamoring" to buy the house. At a diner, Phil meets Gil Thorpe, a fellow real estate agent, who makes him an offer for the house. Phil turns it down, saying it’s too low. Gil argues that the market is crashing and he might not get the same offer again, but Phil is adamant and is sure he will be able to sell the house for much more... read more.

4x19: The Future Dunphys recap: The episode begins with Claire scheduled to go to the hospital for an angiogram because of the minor heart incident she had a few weeks ago. Luke is trying to build a toaster that would automatically fling the toast onto a plateful of butter, so Phil suggests he use a spring from a mattress for his experiment. Haley wants to leave her job at the store because it’s boring, but Claire advises her against it. Claire wants Alex to have more fun, but Alex wants to stay in her room and study. Claire asks Phil to talk some sense into their children, but he ends up doing just the opposite... read more.

4x18: The Wow Factor recap: The episode begins with Claire and Cam, who are working as a team to renovate Cam and Mitch’s house. They are each under the impression that they are manipulating the other into getting stuff done their way. At the Dunphy house, Phil realizes that his daughters don’t know a thing about home care and maintenance, so he takes it upon himself to show them what a modern, self-sufficient woman looks like. At the Pritchett’s, both Gloria and Jay agree that, because baby Joe is taking up all their time, they aren’t spending enough time with Manny. Jay decides to stay with Joe, so Gloria can spend the day with Manny... read more.
