Modern Family

Modern Family

When the Pritchett, Delgado and Dunphy families agree to be interviewed by a documentary crew, they have no idea just how much they're about to reveal about themselves. Jay Pritchett met the stunning Columbian Gloria when she bartended in a bikini at the pool party he threw for himself the day his wife left him. Now Jay and Gloria are married and Jay tries hard to keep up with his much younger and hotter wife and her passionate teenage son, Manny. Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen) is having a hard time raising her own family. Her husband Phil is great, except for the fact that he thinks he's "down" with their teenage kids, much to their embarrassment. Mitchell Pritchett and his enthusiastic partner Cameron have just adopted Lily, a precious little baby girl from Vietnam. This engaging new comedy offers a 'mockumentary' view into the complicated, messy, loving life of three unique families. Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd invite you into the sometimes warm and sometimes twisted embrace of modern day families.

ABC throws us into the lives of a 3 generation spanning family filmed in a "mockumentary" style. I am not a big fan of "mockumentaries" but that's a personal preference. At least they keep the camera shaking and odd camera movement to a minimum. The style element used most is the "on the couch" interview of the characters which can be quite amusing at times. I agree with Kindjal on some levels, like a very slow start for the show.
I did watch the pilot just when it came out, but this show was washed away since i watch ALOT of series. Read more

Recaps
4x23: Games People Play recap: The episode begins and Phil has a big announcement for the family. Thanks to a high-level real estate deal, he will get to use of an RV for the summer and is already dreaming of a family trip; perhaps to Yellowstone. Claire, knowing how the family really works, decides that Jolene (what Phil named the RV) is not going to work with three kids cooped up in it for hours and hours. But she decides to let Phil take them on a long drive just to prove she is right and so she wouldn't have to look like the evil parent. With the Dunphys gone, Jay and Gloria have a problem... read more.

4x22: My Hero recap: The scene opens with Cam and Mitchell returning from shopping. They run into Mitchell’s old boyfriend, Teddy. He invites them to a fundraiser that he is holding and they say that it would be fun. Cam tells Mitchell that they should go and Mitchell is shocked that he is alright with him hanging out with his old boyfriend. Claire is babysitting Joe. Manny comes downstairs and Claire asks why Manny has their names on a list. He says that he is still trying to see who he is going to write an essay about... read more.

4x21: Career Day recap: The episode begins with Cam and Mitch sneaking in Lily’s room in the middle of the night because she has lost a tooth. They are planning to be the tooth fairy and leave something under her pillow, while she is asleep. They enter and see that she is still awake and waiting for the arrival of the tooth fairy. At the Dunphy’s, Phil is getting ready for career day, taking place at Luke’s school. At the Pritchett’s, Jay tells Manny the different jobs he had till he became successful. He says he always wanted to write a spy novel, but never got to it because he had to make money and support a family... read more.

4x20: Flip Flop recap: The episode begins with Cam showing the Pritchetts and the Dunphys around the house that he and Claire have renovated, so they can sell it for a good price. They all raise a toast to a project successfully completed and Phil is sure people will soon be "clamoring" to buy the house. At a diner, Phil meets Gil Thorpe, a fellow real estate agent, who makes him an offer for the house. Phil turns it down, saying it’s too low. Gil argues that the market is crashing and he might not get the same offer again, but Phil is adamant and is sure he will be able to sell the house for much more... read more.

4x19: The Future Dunphys recap: The episode begins with Claire scheduled to go to the hospital for an angiogram because of the minor heart incident she had a few weeks ago. Luke is trying to build a toaster that would automatically fling the toast onto a plateful of butter, so Phil suggests he use a spring from a mattress for his experiment. Haley wants to leave her job at the store because it’s boring, but Claire advises her against it. Claire wants Alex to have more fun, but Alex wants to stay in her room and study. Claire asks Phil to talk some sense into their children, but he ends up doing just the opposite... read more.
