Episode Notes

In this we meet Adrian's older and smarter brother. The character is almost certainly based on Mycroft Holmes, the older and smarter brother of Sherlock Holmes.

Episode Quotes

Sharona: Looks like you've got a new partner.
Monk: Yeah, for any crime committed within thirty feet of his property.

Ambrose: You should have seen him. Going into stores and buying things all by himself when he was fifteen. Driving a car when he was twenty-three. Going out on dates--going out on dates with women, at twenty-six years of age!
Sharona: He's a regular Evel Knievel.

Monk: This is my assistant, Sharona.
Ambrose: Hello, we spoke on the phone.
Monk: Oh, so you can dial a telephone! I was worried. I thought you might be paralyzed, or something.
Ambrose: I wasn't paralyzed.
Monk: I was being sarcastic.
Ambrose: You were being sardonic. Sarcasm is a comtemptuous ironic statement. You were being mockingly derisive. That's sardonic.

Sharona: When was the last time you spoke to him?
Monk: Four years ago. Maybe five.
Sharona: Was it four or five?
Monk: Six. (Pause) Seven.

Ambrose: I love you.
Monk: Don't you say that. Don't you say that to me. I may be no expert, but I know when people love each other, truly care for each other, they don't go seven years without calling. Especially when I needed you most. After Trudy.

Sharona: You play bingo?
Monk: No. Is it fun?
Sharona: It's a lot of fun. You're gonna hate it.

Randy: (watching Sharona dig into a pie) This is actually one of my biggest fantasies. Except it's not a pie. And you're not in it.
Sharona: Would you shut up?

Monk: Ambrose can speak seven languages.
Ambrose: Seven and a half. I'm teaching myself Mandarin.
Monk: Oh, that'll come in handy.

Sharona: (to Monk) I can't believe you went in! (to Ambrose) I can't believe you came out!

Sharona: You just wanted to fit in with the other kids?
Monk: No. . . . Yes.
Sharona: Wow. This is the saddest room I've ever seen.

Sharona: What does he (referring to Monk) have that you don't have?
Ambrose: He has you.

Sharona: And the Forty Niners?
Monk: Oh, yeah. They were a great band.
Sharona: They were a football team.

Sharona: You're just going to hide in the house for the rest of your life?
Ambrose: That's the plan, yes.

Ambrose: You don't know everything, Mr. Great Detective!

Sharona: How did you remember that?
Ambrose: It's a gift . . . and a curse.

Ambrose: Why aren't you out there looking for him [their estranged father]?
Monk: Because I'm afraid I might find him.

(about Monk)
Ambrose: You've always been the fearless one.

Cultural References

Sharona: He's a regular Evel Knievel.
Sharona is sardonically comparing Adrian Monk to daredevil Evel Knievel, famous for his dangerous motorcycle stunts of the 1970s.
