Monk is asked to help his obsessive fan, Marci Maven, after her dog is accused of mauling a neighbor to death despite the fact that the animal died days earlier. Monk refuses to take the case, but is forced to investigate after Marci “wins” Monk in a charity auction.

Next door, John Ringel arrives home and finds his wife dead, viciously mauled. The police go over to arrest Marci’s dog Otto, but she reveals that he’s been dead for three days and is buried in her back yard...
