When I first heard the story of My Name Is Earl, I knew it was a premise that would strike a chord with me. The idea of making right everything that you have ever done wrong has a special meaning for me, and I'm sure it does for many others. I find it hard to place what it is that makes me love this show so much, whether it is the superb casting or the lack of a laugh track, as so many unoriginal shows do today. This is one of my favorite shows on television and completely nice breath of fresh air. Long have I been tired, really tired, of laugh tracks. While I know this wasn’t the first, it has been common on HBO and what-not, it was one of the first that I really got into that was broadcasted on national TV. It so gives it that film comedy vibe. Most shows have a middle class family with three or so children and deals with their "dilemmas" every episode. What I love about My Name is Earl is that it's not the same standard show as everything else. It shows the dilemma of a lower-class man who relates more to the American public more than anyone else.
