| Each episode of the KTMA 23 season was broadcast only once. It is only through fans who had the foresight to record and keep videos of the episodes that the rest of us can enjoy the rough beginnings of MST3K.
During this season we are introduced to Joel Hodgson and his robot pals, Tom Servo, Crow T. Robot, Gypsy and Cambot. Joel was shot into space against his will by his bosses as Gizmonic Institute. As it turns out, his bosses are actually mad scientists who want to perform experiments on him, all the while hoping to cash in on his pain. They really need the cash, especially because their funding has been cut.
The characters are rough, the video and audio qualities are poor and the riffing is experimental... but the seeds of greatness are sown in all of these things.

You make lemonade.
(Joel and Gypsy are outside the theater, when movie sign comes)

Now keep in mind he can’t control when the movies begin or end,
(Shot of Crow and Tom Servo)
