During a basketball game, in the projects, 2 men are shot dead and several wounded. The dead men worked for opposing drug dealers and Simone and Sipowicz reckon the shooting was drug related. The game had no police presence, on the recommendation of Lt. Fancy, who was persuaded to keep it low profile by local Brother Kwazi. Fancy gets the blame for the trouble and Sipowicz squares up to Kwazi and gets accused of using racial language. The fight is witnessed by a reporter who also saw the shootings, but declines to give evidence. Fancy and Sipowicz confront each other about the 2 incidents.
A girl's body is found, burned, in an abandoned basement. Information from the husband of the girl's best friend points to a Russian, who had tried to date her, but had been refused. Simone puts together a scenario, involving the husband and 2 of his associates. Medavoy gets some overtime, on bodyguard duty and gets lucky in the card school.
A bruised and battered wife tells Sipowicz that her husband claimed to have killed somebody 8 years previously. Sipowicz follows a trail, leading back to 2 previous relationships. Russell is told that her father has been shot and killed. Her brother claims to have done it, but Simone thinks he's not telling the whole truth.

After a shooting at a bar, Simone and Sipowicz are sent to the hospital and find that they know one of the victims. The whole squad is involved in the hunt for the killers.

Medavoy and Kirkendall hunt the killer of a cycle messenger who gets shot while apparently trying to catch a thief. Sipowicz gets a visit from his physician, but is not pleased about it.

The 5 'friends' of the victim tell the same story, but the detectives suspect a cover-up. Medavoy shows Martinez his own childs birth video.

Sipowicz - back at work after his op - and Russell have to tread carefully to discover the truth. The cop's boss wants him to take the blame, but Sipowicz wants the truth. Russell has to take Simone to hospital when he becomes ill, during the investigation.
Simone's condition starts to worsen, requiring more tests. Sipowicz, Medavoy and Martinez investigate the death of a man found in the park, with his pants down. Sipowicz gets tetchy, over the lack of information from the hospital.
As Simone's condition worsens, Lt. Fancy makes a request to the Uniformed Officers to be aware of the need for a usable heart. Simone's colleagues have to occupy their minds with the case of an old lady found hacked to pieces in her apartment. Of her two sons, one doesn't seem to care about it and the other is too full of drugs to understand what has happened. Sipowicz's mood gets him into a fight.
Simone's recovery is hampered by a chest infection. The doctors differ in their opinions of which treatment to use. Sipowicz's ex-wife turns up at the station, drunk and asking for his help.
New squad member, Danny Sorenson, arrives and gets sent to a drive-by shooting, with Sipowicz. The rest of the squad, including Russell on her first day back at work, attend another shooting. The two incidents are related and cause friction between the two teams of investigators. ADA Costas asks Sipowicz to look into an old case she has reservations about.
Sipowicz and Sorenson are called to a robbery, where the aged shopkeepers have been beaten. The woman dies and Sorenson is affected. They hunt 2 black youths who were seen running away from the store. Russell and Kirkendall are sent to a 'Gentleman's Club' where a client has been killed. One of the girls implicates an ex staff member as the possible killer. Sgt. Dorning admits his doubts to Sipowicz, about an old case.
Confusion reigns as an off-duty cop shoots an undercover cop after taking a bullet in the shoulder. When the first shooter confesses to Sorenson, it triggers Sipowicz and Lt. Fancy to renew their own private little war. Russell and Kirkendall, meanwhile, are busy investigating another crime involving a member of the precinct staff. ADA Costas is still worrying over the death, in Ryker's Island, of a man she helped put inside.
Kirkendall's son witnesses a stabbing in a convenience store. Sorenson and Russell join forces to try and protect him from getting caught up in the 'system'. Medavoy and Martinez have to get their hands dirty to solve the killing of a vagrant with lots of enemies. Sgt. Dorning helps ADA Costas and Sipowicz with the Suarez case.
Russell is still struggling with the loss of Simone and enlists Kirkendall's help. ADA Costas looks for ways to get Freddie Asuncion and clear Luis Suarez's name. The whole squad is involved when a supermarket is robbed and an off-duty cop is killed. When the FBI and Internal Affairs become involved, it opens old wounds for Sipowicz and Sorenson.
A close friend of Sorenson's takes the law into his own hands when he confronts a groper on his bus route and puts his life in danger. A female tenant points the finger at a male tenant, when another female tenant is found strangled and beaten to death. Sorenson becomes her confidant in order to get to the truth.
When a man's body is found shot and dumped in an alley, Medavoy and Martinez have to calm the victim's angry brothers. Russell and Kirkendall get a confession to rape and murder while searching for a missing schoolgirl. The squad's PAA is missing and her friend believes he knows why.
When a dead hooker is found on a building site, her identification causes problems for Russell and Kirkendall. Sipowicz and Sorenson are called in to assist Lt. Fancy and Sgt. Dorning, who then find themselves in a dangerous situation. Russell gets a visit from an acquaintance of her late husband.
A 9 year-old girl is found dead inside a locked basement, the supervisor is the only key-holder, but he has an alibi. Sipowicz and Sorenson have to solve the whodunit. Medavoy and Martinez help an old man to trace the person who swindled him out of 8000 dollars. Sorenson's sister comes to visit him. Dolores father turns up at the squad room.
Sipowicz has a nightmare about his father and Officer Dorning. A Police Officer shoots a drug dealer but can't prove that the dealer was armed. Sorenson and Sipowicz use all their resources to help him. Russell and Kirkendall try to settle a dispute between a convicted mobster and his Polish neighbour.
Sorenson's private life affects the whole squad when his girlfriend turns up at the station. A body is found in a dumpster. The squad get a lead when the dead man's credit card is used.
Sipowicz and Sorenson have to find out who is responsible for a woman dying, after she was tied up during a robbery. The rest of the squad get involved in solving a truck hi-jacking. Information on the possible culprit comes from ex-detective Roberts, who also passes on a warning.
Ex-detective Mike Roberts is found dead, in an apparent suicide. John Irvine, the PAA, reveals his conversation with Roberts, to Sipowicz. The squad set up a sting to trap a suspect.
Officer Dornan disrupts an AA meeting, leaving Sipowicz no option but to involve Lt. Fancy. Dolores' father threatens to take action against Malcolm Cullinan and gets PAA Irvine into trouble. Sipowicz and Sorenson search for the pusher who supplied Mike Roberts. ADA Cohen continues to express his jealousy, over Kirkendall.
A man is shot dead in what his wife claims was a case of mistaken identity. Kenny Priest gives his evidence to ADA Costas, who has replaced ADA Cohen. Sinclair, Cullinan's lawyer, tries to goad Sipowicz.
Mike Shannon brings in a young boy who makes a confession to Sorenson. Sipowicz worries about his up-coming court appearance facing Sinclair. ADA Costas takes care of him. Dolores father attends the court hearing.
Sipowicz stays away from the squad and tries to come to terms with his loss. Evidence comes to light implicating Cullinan in more misdeeds and Sorenson turns to Sipowicz for advice. John Irvine is released from hospital, but is reluctant to return to the Precinct.
Sorenson and Sipowicz interview two cops when witnesses claim they know more about a beaten man, who later dies in hospital, than they admit. Kirkendall's ex-husband is back on the scene and Russell doesn't approve.
A parolee makes a complaint to Sorenson and Sipowicz and then is suspected of killing one of the men he complained about. Kirkendall finds out her ex is under surveillance. Russell and Kirkendall investigate when a dead baby is found in a dumpster.
Theo is causing problems for Sipowicz, who turns to his ex-wife for advice. When a man's mutilated body is found in a hotel, Sipowicz, Sorenson and Medavoy have to visit a gay bar to search for a suspect. Martinez, Russell and Kirkendall suspect a teacher of having intimate relations with an under-age student.
Seven naked men are found dead, in an empty apartment. 6 have been shot and one has had his throat cut. A profiler and a detective from anti-crime are called in to assist, but their help only adds to the confusion. In a separate case, Martinez and Medavoy try to find a link between a dead man, with a broken neck and a robbery at a nearby clothing store. Kirkendall's ex-husband threatens her job.
A woman's husband is shot dead, in front of her. The weapon is recovered, at the scene. The witness' stories are confusing and Sipowicz and Sorenson have to work it out. Kirkendall's ex-husband continues to cause her problems, at work.
It's Martinez's last day with the squad as he gets promoted to Sergeant. Sipowicz and Sorenson discover that a weapon, used in a killing, matches one used in an unsolved case from 2 years earlier. The investigation spells trouble for a mother and her 2 children. Kirkendall is still having trouble with her ex-husband.
A new detective, Baldwin Jones, replacement for Martinez, arrives unexpectedly at the 15th. He is immediately involved in the search for a cop killer. Russell has to find a way to break the news to Kirkendall about her ex-husband.
A girl is thrown from a moving van, under the wheels of a bus. Russell and Kirkendall investigate, but find a deeper story. A Russian couple report their sons missing, but tell different stories. Jones leads the search under the scrutiny of Sipowicz.
Sipowicz asks Sorenson for advice on whether, or not, he should go on a blind date. A murder appears to have gang related overtones, which gets Lt. Fancy into an argument with Lt. Abner. Jones has to find the killer.
Sorenson is having restless nights, which makes him late for work. Meanwhile, his partner, Sipowicz is called to an old building where a builder has discovered a skeleton inside a wall. The case is linked to an old missing person report and they enlist the help of a retired detective. The rest of the squad are involved in solving a shooting, where the bullet, which has killed a man, then hits a dog.
Lt. Fancy meets with Lt. Abner to see how he is. Sipowicz and Sorenson hunt the killer of a bar owner with a zest for life. Kirkendall and Russell enlist the help of Jones to interview a suspected rapist.
A rich man goes missing and his car disappears. His nephew points the finger at the uncle's ex-boyfriend. Sipowicz and Sorenson uncover a crime of passion. Russell and Kirkendall interview a 23 year-old woman who claims to have been raped by 5 men. She tries to lead the detectives to the place where the rape happened.
Sipowicz and Sorenson investigate an art theft, but the art's owner is, at first, unhelpful, then he puts the two detectives into a dangerous situation. A man reports his wife missing, but acts strangely. Medavoy and Jones try to trace her whereabouts and get more reports about the husband's strange behaviour.
A businesswoman reports a break-in and the abduction of her father. Sorenson and Sipowicz's inquiries are made more difficult by the ex-detective who works for her and a false accusation, but they get a clue from Sorenson's junkie pal JB. Medavoy and Jones take a report, from a wealthy woman, that her Latino maid has mysteriously 'lost' her baby and suggests that she might be responsible for missing property. Kirkendall and Russell try to get the truth from the maid. Meanwhile, Sorenson persuades JB to 'sleep-over' at his place, until the drugs wear off.
Sorenson wakes to find JB is missing and sets out to find him, much to the distaste of Sipopwicz. A second-hand clothes dealer reports that she has possibly bought stolen property. Medavoy and Jones try to find their rightful owner. Kirkendall arrests a shoplifter and gets involved in a domestic squabble involving another detective.
Sipowicz is concerned over Sorenson's drinking and it sours the relationship between them. An old friend of Medavoy's asks for his help but Medavoy has to turn him down, with dire consequences. A young man and his girlfriend come into the station to report the death of his parents. Their story is the same, until Jones gets the girlfriend on her own.
The new owner of a house discovers a woman's body, in a barrel, in his basement. Attention focuses on a former owner, with mafia connections, who's wife went missing 5 years previously. Enlisting the help of a mafia snitch doesn't help the investigation until his girlfriend comes in to tell her story. Jones accidentally goes undercover, with a reporter, while on surveillance and Sipowicz has to lend a shoulder to the ME who has family health problems.
Russell and Kirkendall search for a woman's missing twin sister and her car. When the car is found, abandoned, a lone fingerprint is all the clues they have. Sorenson and Sipowicz have to find a woman's killer. Her husband, his cousin and a midget neighbour are the main suspects.
The squad investigate a brutal rape/murder. They are approached by a retired English police detective who claims he knows the identity of the killer. He links the death to other murders in England and also a previous one in New York.
A man walks into the squad room and reports that his wife and his lodger may be responsible for a series of violent gas-station robberies. Russell sees Detective Denby with a man who resembles Kirkendall's supposedly dead ex-husband.
Kirkendall meets with her, supposedly dead, ex-husband. Sipowicz worries about his son's health and has to take time-off, to take him to hospital. Russell and Sorenson discuss how they will confront Kirkendall. Medavoy and Jones investigate an alleged rape/assault, where the perpetrator is beaten to death by the victim's relatives.
Sipowicz is still concerned about his son's health and takes him for more tests. Lt. Fancy warns Russell to stay away from Kirkendall's problems. Medavoy feels he's being kept out of the loop, when Sorenson comes up with a plan to deal with Denby and Kirkendall's husband
In a store shooting, late at night, 3 staff members are killed and one is injured. The only other witness is Dwight - described as a 'dumpster diver'- who saw 2 black guys leaving the premises. Officer Shannon provides the first real lead to the killers. The whole squad come under investigation, by the IAB, over Detective Kirkendall's apparent involvement in drug deals. Sipowicz is desperate to have Theo re-tested at the hospital.
Ray DiSalvo, Bobby Simone's old friend, reaches out to Russell from prison, with information concerning Don Kirkendall. While Medavoy is tied up in court and Sorenson is meeting with both DiSalvo and Denby, Sipowicz and Jones team up to search for a possible serial-killer, who's targeting taxi drivers.
Sipowicz finally gets the results from son Theo's blood tests and the news affects his whole day.
A female cop is shot while chasing a suspect, after a robbery is reported. Her partner blames himself for not staying with her. The squad are looking for 2 black males and the uniform cops are over-zealous when picking up likely candidates. Sorenson's private life gets difficult.
