A brutal rapist-murderer kills a nun and Amsterdam investigates an Amerindian photographer's assistant, Amartya, who survives another attack but refuses to testify against her attacker. John convinces her to testify but the rapist is cleared on a technicality and Amartya is murdered. John goes after the killer and must balance honor against revenge.
