Amsterdam is led back to his past when he takes on a case of a murdered socialite, which leads to an old love. Meanwhile, John has a heart attack and believes he's finally found his true love, the one who can make him mortal.

Did anyone else watch the pilot?
I really enjoyed it. Obviously the main concept of immortality has been done before (Highlander) but I hope this works out and sticks on the schedule. I really LOVED Waldau as the lead, he played the character perfectly, with just enough sadness/ intensity/ hopefulness. The character of Omar was also great - a bit of comic relief and a keeper of secrets. Eva Marquez isn't quite up there yet, but I think once the show settles in, she'll feel more in place.
The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the Native American backstory. Amsterdam saves the girl's life, and she "rewards" him with eternal life? Was she unaware that it would actually feel more like a curse? They may have to go into that more deeply, because that felt like it wasn't considered carefully by the writers. I assume there's more to it, because it was so hokey. If the girl could make him immortal, are there others? |

I was pleasantly surprised too. As far as pilot episodes go, this was one of my favorite this season. The crime aspect of the storyline was so-so, but I did enjoy how Amsterdam used his knowledge of the city to solve the crimes.
I agree about Waldau. He's perfect as Amsterdam. I'll definitely tune in next week. |

Good thing you mentioned that's on tomorrow. I would have missed it otherwise.
It's a dumb ass decision to put it against Lost. Stupid Fox. |

I thought it was interesting the way he took a yearly picture of Manhattan from the exact spot where he was "reborn". |
