Game On - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Jackie looks at a crumpled piece of paper before shoving it back in her
pocket as we hear "Don't Rain on My Parade." She feels all the top of
the doors and medicine chest before cleaning everything out into a
pillow case.

When she gets downstairs, she asks Kevin if O'Hara is gone, and erupts
when the answer is yes. She dumps the pillow case and tells Kevin to
look at everything she was supposed to load up. She's in a rage. Call
the cops. Where are the girls. He counters. Why does she needs a PO box?
She sidesteps and tells him to take the key, but he asks again. She
pauses to think of a plausible answer, and he tells her to forget it.
He's not going to believe her, anyway. It doesn't matter. She completely
goes off on the tuition issue, when they have money for Fee, but not
Grace. Jackie shouldn't have had to sneak around, and beg. From now on,
it's all on Kevin. She leaves to get the kids.

When the girls get in the car, Jackie acts like she doesn't have a care
in the world. What did they have for dinner? Bacon and snowballs. And
OMG, their aunt's boyfriend is a pilot. She's blissfully happy to see
them. Fee kisses her on the forehead.

Gloria puts up a sign telling people not to kiss the statues, because of
lead in the paint. Jackie asks to steal her for a minute. In her office,
Jackie tells her this is entirely preemptive; there's nothing to be
worried about. Gloria is already worried. Jackie says she's been doing
this for 20 years, and parts of her body are giving out. She's
interrupted by a call, which Gloria picks up, then hangs up as she asks
what they are preempting. Jackie says she started leaning on pain
killers. Just a couple of months. Totally self-corrected. The phone
beeps again. Gloria repeats the pick up, hang up. Gloria asks if this
has anything to do with the pill-o-matix, and Jackie says no.

Kevin opened a credit card bill, he saw pharmacy charges, flipped out
and contacted O'Hara. Gloria says not good, and Jackie agrees. Not for
anybody. But. She is fine. But calling O'Hara. I mean, her family is
drug addicts. Like 'pump your stomach, die in your sleep' addicts. So
she had a disproportionate reaction, and Kevin feels like shit. He had
no idea what her deal was when he called her. The phone beeps again, and
Gloria yanks the cord out of the back. So what does Jackie want from
her? Just that if O'Hara comes in, take what she says with a grain of salt.

Gloria delivers some devastating news. If a coworker so much as raises
the scepter of substance abuse, she's required, by law, to notify HR.
That's just the way it is. So she needs Jackie to head O'Hara off at the
pass.

Cooper lets himself in, and Gloria reminds him he needs to knock. He
does so. He says he's refusing to work with Sam, he caused Cooper bodily
harm. Zoey and Thor are in admitting, so he wants Jackie. She's on it.
They head out, and Gloria is about to reassemble her phone when O'Hara
lets herself in.

A 5 year-old has rammed something up his nose, so he could see his
brain. Fitch says it's up there good. The boy asks him what happened to
his nose, and Cooper says his friend Sam didn't want to share. Coop
gives it a tug, but it's lodged in there good, in the sinus cavity. He
doesn't want to mess with it, so he'll give ENT a call.

Zoey asks the kid if he was trying to look at his brain, and he nods
solemnly. "Done that." Cooper asks her to grab him some surgical
booties. He doesn't want to scuff his new shoes on the first day. Jackie
tells the patient that she can almost see it, and it looks to her like
he has a very smart brain. She tells Cooper that she thinks they should
get him a scan, but he disagrees. An x-ray will do it. Jackie says
x-rays are great, but he wants to see his brain. Show him his brain.
Using his powers for good? Pretty tempting! He likes it. A lot.

O'Hara tells Gloria that she's in the middle of something terribly
private between Jackie and her husband, and she doesn't like it.
Moreover, she doesn't want to work the same shifts as Jackie anymore.
Gloria points out that after 20 years, Jackie has earned the right to
write her own schedule. There are very few perks she can offer her
nurses, but that's one of them. So if O'Hara feels strongly about it,
she'll have to rearrange her schedule.

Gloria asks if Kevin is right to be concerned. She shoots for obtuse,
but Gloria doesn't buy it. O'Hara doesn't answer. She'll call Gloria
about the schedule.

Thor gives Sam stuff to help with his hangover. Sam thanks him, since
he's on probation. Zoey keeps skipping around behind Jackie who finally
gets fed up and asks what. Zoey had sex with Lenny. Newsflash, he's a
neat freak. She runs on, and the guys try to head her off as Gloria is
approaching. She says they don't get to stifle her, but then she turns
and almost walks right into Gloria. Stifle away, man.

Gloria informs them that with all the local hospital closings, she can
hire nurses with 10-20 years experience for a song. They better be
watching themselves. Heads will roll if they don't. Sam tries to talk to
Jackie but she interrupts to announce that she has an axe she could drop
on his head at any moment. Why would she give that up?

A guy named Tommy was crushed under a ton of boxes. O'Hara and Jackie
wind up working together on him. The moving company, Finn & Son, was
working on a local library, packing it up. He reiterates that he thought
Tommy was taking a nap. Jackie comes out to fill him in on Tommy's
condition. He's suffering from renal failure, they're going to put him
on dialysis. He keeps interrupting. He wants to know if he should call
Tommy's mom.

Jackie tells Tommy his mom is on the way. Thor says they have
respiratory, then heart failure. O'Hara says it's not survivable.

Jackie joins Finn in the chapel. He tells her that it was Finn and son
before Tommy was even born. He asks if Tommy will live until his mom
gets there. Because she will kill Finn if she doesn't get to say
goodbye. He figures he was under there 1.5-2 hours. He figured Tommy was
just screwing around. Anybody else, he would have fired, but this is his
kid so he just got more and more pissed, because he was working all
alone. But he wasn't sleeping, and he wasn't flirting. He was pinned
under two tons of books. Jackie just sits and listens.

Tommy made him lunch. Is Jackie hungry? She says no, but he tears the
sandwich in half and shares anyway. She thanks him. He asks her if she
has kids, and she doesn't answer.

Kevin is trying to enroll Fee in Grace's school. Second child discount.
The nun really wants to talk to Jackie. He wants to be made the
emergency contact for both girls. He hands her three credit cards and
asks that half the tuition be split between them.

Jackie crushes two blue pills and sniffs the results. She comes out of
the backroom, and runs into Eddie, who wants to know what she was doing
back there. She claims looking for paper tape. He hands it to her and
offers her a teriyaki wrap. Cooper comes in and wants them to guess how
much his shoes cost.

Zoey wants to talk about sexy time with Lenny. Thor refuses, because she
calls it sexy time with Lenny. She then asks Sam about boy piercings.
Thor really doesn't want them going there. Kevin arrives, looking for
Jackie. Zoey thinks Jackie's not married, and asks for i.d. She had no
idea.

Zoey tells Jackie her husband is there. Cooper laughs, but Eddie knows
it's true. She slips her ring back on before she goes out to Kevin.
Cooper tries to give Eddie a tough time, but he turns it back on him for
being with Sam's girlfriend. Sam walks in just then and flips Cooper off.

Thor watches Jackie and Kevin, and asks Zoey if she can lip read. She
says yes, and promptly announces that it's private. Kevin is very angry
because nobody even knows she's married. Jackie lies, telling him that
today is Zoey's first day, and how is she supposed to know who is and
isn't married. He tells her that he laid out the money for tuition. He
did, this is on him now. He needs her to focus on them. A woman drops a
bottle, and Jackie runs away from him and scoops up a toddler so she
doesn't step on the glass. Kevin leaves.

Jackie lays on a pew and plays with her wedding ring. She hears the door
open. It's O'Hara, taking a breather. Rough day. Jackie moves up two
rows, but doesn't say anything. O'Hara gets up and leaves, murmuring
"You broke my heart, Jackie."

Cooper shows Pete (the five year-old) his brain, and he could care.
Jackie takes over, and he's all ears.

O'Hara snaps at Zoey that it's not her job to keep track of them.

Jackie shows up with the girls at Kevin's ball game. A woman in front of
her is fidgeting, she lost something. Her last Percocet. Jackie eyeballs
it and points it out to her. The woman says neck spasms, and Jackie
shares her soda with her before leaning forward and murmuring "That
shit'll kill ya."
