Play Me - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Kevin finds Jackie hard at work in the kitchen. She made waffles for
breakfast, and he has chicken sandwiches in the fridge for lunch. She
asks him to keep an eye on the bacon while she wakes up the girls. She
finds cigarettes on the nightstand, and Kevin's sister Tunie in bed
holding Grace. Fee whispers that she and her boyfriend broke up.

Tunie pours her heart out over breakfast, with some pretty salty
language. Her boyfriend broke up with her by text message while she was
at work. She got in around 3:00, she's done it before. Grace says she's
never scared, she just pretends Tunie is the tooth fairy. The girls head
out for school. Jackie tells Kevin that she put in a good word for Eddie
at work. She thinks he has a shot. No big deal. Kevin thanks her.

He leaves, and Tunie hugs Jackie. Kevin told her everything, that he and
that snotty doctor ran an intervention on Jackie. She told Kevin that
interventions are effing rude. Their mom was a drunk, so Kevin has a
tendency to overreact. She asks if she can crash there a few days so she
has time to figure things out. Sure, not a problem.

Eddie thinks it's good she'll be there. Having company for the next few
days can help take some of the pressure off. Eddie is mad at himself
because Jackie is speaking to him again, and he's all happy and hooked.
It's pathetic. She doesn't know what else to do. If he needs them not to
be friends, that's fine. But he should call Kevin and tell him he got
the job. Kevin is crazy about him.

God (some crazy guy) steals the street piano.

Zoey fills Jackie in on a patient. Her husband is Orthodox, her parents
are not, and they're altercating as to where she should be treated.
Jackie tells her to move the folks to the waiting room, bring the
husband in here, call ICU and have them ready for her.

Two street vendors are wheeled in after a fight turned physical over who
gets ownership of a corner. O'Hara tells Cooper he gets his choice of
patients. He picks the burn over the facial shish kebab.

Jackie explains to the orthodox husband that his wife arrived here
because it was the nearest hospital. It's not a good idea to move a
patient who is bleeding internally. He says he's trying to speak for his
wife.

A priest explains to Gloria how her chapel was deconsecrated back in
1978. They want their statuary back. She can look at it as the hospital
having had them for 33 years longer than they were supposed to. She
wants him to look the other way, but he refuses. Gloria says she knows
Michelle Obama.

Lenny makes a very romantic picnic for Zoey. He put his key in her
sandwich. She may have cracked a filling. He was trying to be romantic,
letting her know she can come over whenever she wants. He claims he saw
it in a movie. The piano is being wheeled away behind them.

Jackie tries talking to the parents, but Gila's husband remains
unmoving. Her parents want her treated now, where she is, but as her
husband is the next-of-kin, he gets his wishes. He continues to insist
this is what his wife would want. Jackie says she will do so, but Lenny
refuses as he's already on a run. She calls for another ambulance, and
takes some blue pills.

Gloria can't believe the priest is going to all of the trouble of taking
the statues, when they're just going into a storage facility on Staten
Island. She asks for two weeks so her staff can say their goodbyes. He
promises to leave them there until the last possible moment. She hisses
at him "Pillaging a hospital chapel. Nice work if you can get it."

Jackie tells the husband that the ambulance has arrived.

The vendors are worried about their carts. She takes their cell phones,
gives them to Sam, tells him to scroll for home, call the families, and
tell them to pick up their carts. Sam thinks that's smart. Jackie thinks
he could have thought of it himself.

God wheels the piano out of an elevator with a little help from
maintenance.

Jackie finds Mr. Martin sitting in the lobby. She sits down and tells
him she doesn't have what he's looking for ($12,000, for all the
Oxycontin she's been ingesting). He says he comes in peace. He walks
with her over to Eddie. She takes his wallet and hands it to Eddie,
saying they're going out for coffee. If she ends up dead, this guy did it.

Over coffee, Martin tells her he's a former drug and alcohol counselor.
He quit because he couldn't stand watching people screw their lives up
time after time. Now he happily pushes them to the brink (for a hefty
price) so they can bottom out and get healthy. Jackie finds his job
repulsive. He's tired of the lightweights. He wants Jackie. If she needs
help bottoming out, he's her man. She says she's good.

Jackie impressed him. She took drugs off a man having an epileptic
seizure. New low. Well done. Jackie asks him, hypothetically of course:
How far is she from hitting bottom. "Not even close." He shoves a blue
pill over to her on a napkin. She leaves it sitting there when she walks
out.

Jackie wants a moment with O'Hara, but she's swamped. Raincheck? Sure.

Zoey talks to God about Lenny. She's conflicted. He's moving too fast.
God tells her to date other people. He confesses that he wanted to ask
her out. She says dating God would be too much pressure.

Lenny tells Jackie how badly he screwed up, by putting his key in Zoey's
sandwich and cracking her filling. He wants advice. She tells him to
stop suffocating Zoey, and she'll make a beeline to him.

Gloria manages to hang onto two of the statues, as "architectural
embellishments that do not fall within the scope of the chapel." The
priest tells her she made a nice catch.

Lenny apologizes to Zoey for pressuring her. He's also sorry about her
tooth. They kiss while God plays the piano. Gloria arrives, and Zoey
runs away. She snaps at Lenny to get a haircut, and he runs off,
followed very shortly by God. Gloria hits a few notes, it's the old
"Comet" theme (aka the Colonel Bogey March).

Jackie meets up with her family at the bar. Aunt Tunie got an upgrade.
She's not staying a couple of days, she's staying a couple of weeks.
Jackie doesn't object. She says she saw Eddie at work. Tunie recognizes
that name. That's the guy Kevin wanted her to go out with, right? Kevin
looks Jackie in the eye as he says it's just a thought. The last one
broke his heart.
