Jackie hides Oxycontin all over her basement.
O'Hara and Jackie do lunch. They fill each other in on all their recent
events. O'Hara says that Akalitus offered her a title, but that's it.
She's not impressed. The only allusion to the intervention is when
O'Hara tells Jackie that next time she goes on the offensive, she needs
to take better aim.
A man is acting like a complete ass at the next table over because he
claims the waitress screwed up his order. O'Hara tells her to leave it
be, but Jackie can't take it. She goes and says she's the manager. She
tells the guy he doesn't have to be an asshole, and asks the client if
he wants to work with an asshole. He says no; his daughter is a
waitress. She orders him to apologize to the waitress, and tells the
waitress to get him his chicken. When she lands back on her chair, the
waitress tells O'Hara her friend is amazing, and lunch is on her. O'Hara
smilingly says "Oh, I have missed you and the havoc that you wreak."
Gloria arrives, announcing that Bellevue already kicked off a childhood
obesity campaign. Zoey is walking even when she's standing still,
because she's wearing a pedometer. So far, she's walked 5.3 miles.
Gloria tells her to keep stepping, so she walks away, only to be
replaced by Jackie. Where did Gloria get the banner? Ripped it off the
six train. She says they're not going to let this go. Fund raising
starts now. Every little bit helps. She takes Jackie's last $5.
Sam taunts Cooper about O'Hara being named Chief of the ER. He doesn't
believe him, and tells Sam if were true, he'd know. They're both
doctors. Just like Sam knows everything going on with the nurses.
Jackie tells Eddie "Happy First Day of Work." He tells her that he's
invited over for a celebratory dinner, so he'll give her a ride home
after work. She tells him things have gotten so much easier with Kevin
now that he knows Eddie works there and it's okay. Her statement is
positively dripping sarcasm.
Gloria berates somebody on the phone about needing donations. It's a nun
she's yelling at. Cooper bursts in and throws his hat in the ring. He
wants the title she gave to O'Hara. She tells him to prove himself. Work
overtime.
Jackie leaves a voice mail for Kevin. BBQ sounds great, let her know if
he needs her to pick anything up. A man is heard shouting that his wife
is having a baby. She's up in maternity, and he's afraid he'll miss
everything because he's having dry heaves. Jackie instructs him that
he's having chest pains, so he'll get seen right away. A woman cuts her
off and tells Jackie her daughter goes first. She has asthma, and can
barely breathe. She points out her daughter who is scarfing chips and
happy as a clam. Jackie advises her that chest pains take priority. She
gives Evan some valium to take the edge off.
Zoey joins them, and she's pretty over-the-top, so Jackie takes her in
the chapel. Zoey thanks her. Jackie tells her if she doesn't learn to
pace herself, she will burn out. Zoey agrees. She asks where Jackie got
married, and Jackie remembers it as a long, hot, sweaty mass. Zoey knows
she's going to be a sweaty bride, and that's not good. Jackie tells her
she has time. Her pedometer kicks in and tells her to get cracking, but
Jackie issues a counter-command.
Thor finds Gloria doing a donation thermometer. Thor thinks it looks
phallic. O'Hara shows up and agrees. Gloria tells her that Cooper wants
the title. He can't have it if O'Hara accepts, so she does. He's working
overtime until next week to prove himself. They'll make it official
then. O'Hara offers Gloria $1000 to take the thermometer down. Gloria
refuses, but says she'll put O'Hara's name on it, showing she donated
that much. Gloria offers another $1000 to keep her name off, and Gloria
shakes on it.
Lenny brings in a patient who passed out in the lobby right before his
first job interview in months. Jackie takes the case.
Cooper is wearing special footwear because he wracked up his instep
playing basketball. They talk about the Chief position. If he wins, he
wants O'Hara's office. She says it only seems fair. He thinks he'll
paint it. Both their beepers go off. O'Hara gives him a 10 second head
start for his gimpyness. He passes it off to Eddie. Eddie can go tell
Jackie that he represents Cooper, and Cooper will win the bet for
answering the page first.
Jackie makes small talk with Lou while they wait for a doctor. She tells
him he's hypertensive. He went off his meds. He jokes that his glasses
are broken. Cooper grabs Jackie to give him a cortizone shot. He can't
do it himself because he knows it will hurt. She's miffed because he can
get cortizone, and she can't. He tells her to see a doctor about that,
and she sticks the needle right in a bunion. When Cooper reacts, she
calls him a big baby.
She checks in on Evan, and he's in great shape. He doesn't want to go
back upstairs and join his wife. He's scared. He has nothing to offer
her. Jackie takes him upstairs anyway. He claims he's having chest
pains. She gets him upstairs, but then he won't get off the elevator.
New parents get on, and Jackie asks them to indulge her for a second.
Evan should smell the baby. That's what he'll smell whenever he feels
like he doesn't know what he's doing. He loves it and gets off the elevator.
She finds Cooper and Thor working on their fantasy football team. O'Hara
writes a prescription for Lou's hypertension. Says he's a very nice man.
Thor quite agrees. Jackie tapes his glasses back together, hands them
and the prescription to Zoey and tells her to discharge him. She's
headed home. She jumps on the back of Eddie's cycle, and they head for
the BBQ.
When they get home, Jackie finds out that Kevin donated a bunch of stuff
to the church, including stuff from the basement. Gracie can't figure
out why he's been gone for two hours, and Tunie sends her inside so she
can tell Jackie she sent him to a narc-anon meeting. Kevin arrives.
After the BBQ, the girls go to bed and Eddie and Tunie are hanging in
the back yard. Jackie heads for the parish, because she thinks the
girl's baptism gowns might be in the donations. He walks her there and
waits while she runs downstairs.
Jackie finds the boxes in questions and rescues her pills from the
mitten she hid them in that morning.
