Orchids and Salami - Recap

At 2:00am,Gracie wakes Jackie up to check her pulse. Gracie is having trouble sleeping because of her homework assignment. She has to pick a Saint to represent in the school play. Jackie had been expecting this due to the vivid descriptions on the internet. They all have hot cocoa and go back to bed.

The next morning, Jackie goes to a diner before work. She is there to buy pills from a well dressed man. She happens to be seen with the man by Sam, who asks Jackie if she is “a friend of Bill's” Sam tells her that the man she was with is a well known sponsor from his N.A. Meetings.

Sam tells Jackie a sad story about a girl in N.A. Who robbed her boyfriends dead body before calling for help.Jackie looks sickened. Zoey and Thor are arriving at work. Thor tells Zoey that he has heard that Kelly runs to work every day. He is also rumored to run with no shirt!Zoey tells Thor that she no longer has a problem with Kelly. Kelly was at the Bar with everyone the night before, and paid everyone's tab.Zoey was impressed by his generosity.

When Kelly finally appears, he is wearing a shirt. Thor is disappointed.They all go in to the hospital together to begin the day. Kelly and Gloria meet in gloria's office. She is very impressed with all of the experience Kelly has had.

He tells Gloria that his mother, the judge, knows Mrs. Obama.He even claims to have met her once.Gloria is desperate to have Mrs. Obama choose All Saints hospital for her childhood obesity project.She is thrilled that Kelly might be able to help make it happen. Dr. O'Hara invites Jackie to an open house after work.Jackie says she can't go because of how closely she is being watched by Kevin.

Sam volunteers his services to Dr. O'Hara, but is soundly rejected. In the next scene, a 35 year old woman is brought in by her 12 year old son. She was unresponsive after attending a concert the night before.Jackie asks Zoey to keep the kid busy while they work on his mother.As they get on the elevator, the kid asks Zoey if she smokes. Zoey tells him that she is not a smoker. Kevin takes the girls to school.Gracie spills all her cards in the car on her way out.She panics and Kevin promises to pick up all of them for her.As kevin is searching the car for Gracie's cards, he finds a dental floss container under the seat. He shakes it and it rattles as if it has pills inside.

Out on the street, The 12 year old tells Zoey that he hasn't seen his dad in over a year. Zoey admits to him that her dad is in prison, and that when she was 12, she smoked menthols. Zoey is reminded of herself when she was a kid. Jackie stops the elevator between floors to sneak her next pill.

She gets a call from Kevin and chooses to ignore it. However, she puts the pill away for the moment.Jackie moves on to her next patient instead. He is a native American iron worker.He tells her that he flies kites on the top of buildings at lunch time. He says that he is actually afraid of heights, but he gets a charge out of the fear. Jackie catches Dr. Cooper and Thor hiding in Cooper's office. They are playing with Coopers childhood toys. He had to clean out his room because of his mothers getting a divorce.

Jackie talks Cooper into tending to the iron worker, but all coop can talk about is his family problems. Zoey has called the father of the 12 year old to come pick up his son. Jackie tells the boy that his mom is going to be alright. The boy is angry at his mom. He tells Jackie that he thinks his mom is a drug addict.While they talk, Jackie ignores another call from Kevin. She is uncomfortable with the way the boy feels about his mom. Eddie asks Kelly to deliver some pain medication to the cancer ward for him. Eddie says that the drug is 100 times stronger than Morphine.

As Kelly is leaving, Dr.O'Hara walks in. She has broken the heel of her shoe and asks Eddie to help her fix it. She tells him that she asked Jackie, but that she said no.She asks Eddie if he would go with her to the open house and Eddie accepts.They agree that Jackie has no time for them these days. Jackie over hears Kelly talking on the phone. He is telling someone that he has been given Saturday off. Jackie stops to talk to him. He says that he has no idea how to get to Oncology, so Jackie offers to switch tasks with him.Jackie takes the bag with the Pain meds from Kelly and walks away.Instead of heading to Oncology, Jackie goes to confront Gloria about giving Kelly Saturday off. She is angry because there are a lot of nurses that have been at All Saints much longer than Kelly who would like a Sayurday off. Gloria admits that it is about the Obama project. Jackie stomps away.

Dr.Cooper is finishing up with his Native American patient.On his way out of the hospital, the man gives Coop his kite.Coop runs down the street with the kite flying above his head. He yells back, “we made a connection”.Jackie and Kelly are also leaving after their shift. The are just in time to see Eddie helping Dr. O'Hara into a cab. Jackie watches as they leave together.

Back at home, Kevin confronts Jackie on the pills he found in the car. Jackie tells him that everything is really okay. The pills were old. She pulls out a one month chip from N.A. And tells Kevin that she has a month clean. She tells Kevin the same story that Sam had told her that morning about the girl who stole from a dead body. She tells him that she heard it at her meeting that morning.Kevin is trying to believe his wife. As Jackie puts her arms around Kevin to give him a hug, we see that she has a pain patch stuck to her upper arm.It is a 100 mg transdermal fentynal patch. The same meds she was supposed to take to oncology. In essence, Jackie has stolen pain relief from cancer patients.
