Helen is a single mother of three who suffers from OCD, which is making a nightmare of her life. He anxiety was heightened when she lost her father in a car accident. She feels anxiety while driving her car and feels a need to put on her father's bloodied clothes he died in. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Helen will face her fears and come to terms with her dad's death. Meanwhile, Scott can not let a trash can inside his home, no pictures on his walls, will wash his hands 50 times each day and sleeps on a sofa so that he won't need to make his bed each day. This germaphobe must face his fears through CBT so hopefully he will no longer need to live his life alone.
Nicole suffers from an unusual obsession, one which can make her have panic attacks while family members visit if they don't hold there hands in a certain way. Also, when her mother pronounces a word with a "K" sound, Nicole begins to make noises inside her throat. Next is Trina. She keeps having thoughts inside her head fearing she has harmed someone or will soon. She has them so ofter that she begins to believe they have come true. Nicole and Trina hope that cognitive behavioral therapy can help them deal with their problems.
Nidia has been hospitalized twice so far with OCD due to excessively washing her hands. Her showering habits have become so extreme that she could possibly pass out during the process. Her obsessions have taken over her life and his, and may cause a split in their marriage. Next is Rick, who fears death and aging. He uses physical workouts to keep from obsessing over death, but this makes it impossible to get on with his life. Both Nidia and Rick hope CBT can help them gain control over their fixations.
Russ is such an extreme hoarder that he has to sleep outside his home. He also fears an inspection from the fire department because he could never clean up enough to pass. Russ fears he will someday be homeless. Next is Karen. She has become obsessed with death and fears that someone who is close to her will die in an earthquake, accident or a brutal beating. Russ and Karen hope cognitive behavioral therapy will help them to regain their lives.
Shannon is a hypochondriac who also fears death. She won't drive for the fear of bursting into flames from spontaneous combustion or will go blind. CBT is trying to help so she can drive her autistic child to a ranch for special kids. Elsewhere, is Todd, who's compulsion is to tear out his own hair. He spends his days writing obsessive thoughts on his walls while pulling hairs from his face and head.
Traci is a germaphobic and suffers from claustrophobia, causing her to constantly clean and is afraid of elevators. She even fears a home cooked meal due to the possibility of germs. Meanwhile, Judi has become a hoarder. With the death of her father when she was young, her divorce and her only son leaving home has caused her to feel an emptiness which she replaced with clutter.
Christa fears eating foods believing they are contaminated. She eases her anxiety by ripping at her skin with tweezers, mostly from her face. She must rely on her fiance Shawn, but even he fears he can't take much more. Christa worries she will live alone or die or be homeless with no one wanting to deal with her anymore. Meanwhile, Ryan feels like a slave to his OCD rituals of checking, tapping and counting. He starts his mornings with grooming rituals around showering, getting ready, and leaving the house. He even makes his pregnant wife join in with his compulsions.
Marie's strange obsession concerns the weight of objects inside her apartment. She worries that the floor will break through from the weight of her refrigerator, that the floor has weakened and that the building will collapse, crushing her and her daughter. Meanwhile, Matt is agoraphobic with severe panic disorder. His life is built around a "safe zone," near his home. When he drives he fears he will panic and not be able to get back to his safe zone fast enough. Both Marie and Matt will now try to control their fears through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Mandi is a costume designer for a TV series, yet she has no hair due to pulling it out since she was 9-years old. She wears wigs but when a bald patch is exposed she begins pulling out her hair even more. Then there's Mora. Mora constantly brushes and cleans her teeth. Any anxiety during the day would lead to an emergency appointment being made with the dentist and has led to eight root canals in the last several years. Even her eating habits are influenced by the damage certain foods could potentially do to her teeth. Her OCD is the root of her divorce and fears it may effect her 7-year old daughter if she doesn't get a handle on her compulsion.
AJ's panic attacks and anxiety can be managed by a service dog, Sparky. AJ's mind is bombarded with the graphic images of her father abusing animals. Another coping mechanism AJ uses is compulsively tweezing out her eyebrows. During Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, AJ will go to an animal center to confront her obsessive thoughts about animal cruelty. Elsewhere, Vanessa picks at her skin, actually pulling it off right down to her jawbone. Recently Vanessa had met a woman online in which she connected with, and they are ready to meet each other for the first time. Knowing she needs to manage her picking for the relationship to work, Vanessa is highly motivated to begin CBT.
Ritchie is an extreme hoarder and can not bare to throw away anything which belongs to his now deceased mother. He's even blocked off the hallway which led to her bedroom to make it inaccessible. He undergoes the longest therapy treatment yet (over 1 year) as the therapist helps him with his struggle to release and fight through his emotions.
