This episode was a good start to the series. As most pilot episodes, most of the episode was used to set the scene for the rest of the series and spend a lot of time introducing characters and their back stories. But all in all, the episode worked. Each character has their set of ups and downs -- Nick tries to make good, but expects everyone to immediately forgive him which isn't going to happen; Hannah is rightly angry that Nick didn't return home, but she could also be hiding from Nick that Sam is his son; and Nick's friends begin to accept him back, but each have their reservations about Nick just picking up and leaving again. The episode pulled me in. Now that the plot line is set, the upcoming episodes will hopefully be even better than the pilot.
