Season 1

This season focuses mainly on Nick Garrett and his return to his hometown of Knights Ridge, Massachusetts. Ten years ago he left, promising he would return at summer's end, but instead of returning he ended up writing a best-selling novel, based on and hurting his friends. When he returns he learns that Hannah, who was his girlfriend when he left for his trip, has a 10 year old son, Sam. Hannah tells Nick that Sam isn't his, but he has his doubts. Hannah is dating Ray/Big Cat, who does not like Nick at all, but she breaks up with him soon after Nick returned. After talking with the Dean (who we later learn is dating Nick's father, The Commander) Nick gets a job at a local college as a professor. There he meets Aubrey, one of his students, and a potential love interest. We also meet Nick's old best friends, two of them are Owen and Ikey. Ikey tells Nick (thinking that Nick is leaving again) that he is having an ongoing affair with Owen's wife, Alison. Nick is shocked, but keeps it secret, even though later it comes out thanks to Big Cat. Another friend is Physical Phil, who hasn't left his house at all since 9/11. Phil has a bit of a relationship with Pizza Girl. There is also Eddie, who is not happy with the return of Nick, and is having trouble forgiving him. Eddie is interested in Janet, but isn't too keen on being seen with her because she isn't exactly the type of girl he usually is with.
