Mouthful of Diamonds - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Miss Brooke Davis was sitting in her house being interviewed by a young man who worked for the local television station as she reminisced about her clothing company, Clothes Over Bros which she was considering selling that very day, the papers waiting at her office for her signature. She was not sure if she wanted to sell her company, begun when she was a high school student, as she talked about her struggle to start the company up and how she fought to bring it up in the cut throat world of fabrics. And now she was going to sign it all away because she was going to be married to her fiance, whose neurotic mother was planning to help her with her wedding reception that very afternoon.

When Brooke returned to her home, purchased by herself, her future mother in law was waiting in the living room, ideas in her head and new hand towels already hanging on Brooke's bathroom towel racks. Brooke did not appreciate the fact that mom had usurped her hand towels nor the fact that mom had gone ahead and booked the local reception hall for the wedding reception, and told mom so. Mom took offense and called her a negative name or two whereupon Brooke snapped back that she was an alcoholic, a drinkee and that Brooke could not afford to pay for such an extravagant gesture, nor did she want to even if she could. All Brooke wanted was a small wedding and smaller reception to follow and could not mom understand that? No, apparently mom could not and mom did resent Brooke's snide remarks and that Brooke probably could afford white bread sandwiches and boxed wine at HER wedding reception, not to mention the fact that all her guests would probably be doing the chicken dance instead of the classy dances mom had pictured them doing. Mom slammed out of Brooke's house and stormed off home where she claimed a headache and lay down on her couch, whining to her son, Brooke's long suffering fiance. Mom's whining got the better of her son who left mom with her attendant bottle of white wine and went to Brooke's house. He commiserated with Brooke and they agreed that mom would come around to Brooke's way of thinking, that under all her kerfuffle, she was a solid thinking woman whose ego got the better of her now and then.

At the television station, Hayley and another female co worker were listening to the outtakes from an excellent Irish female singer named Erin who showed great promise as far as the women were concerned and Hayley said as much to her co worker. Later in the show, Hayley was praised by the same woman to Erin when the two were talking about how far Erin might be able to go with the television station in the future during her career as a singer. Hayley was touted as one who would hang in there for the duration and would have Erin's back if Erin felt that she wanted to continue with the station. Erin was encouraged to follow her heart and that if she truly, in the future, did not feel as if she wanted to continue with the station, to let the managers know and something else might be worked out for her.

Meanwhile, Nate and Troy traveled to the Atlanta Falcons' stadium where they watched Tony Gonzales, a fourteen season veteran football player, tossing passes and working out on the field there. Nate told Troy that he had always wanted to play football ever since he was seven years old, that that was his only dream and he had high but practical hopes that he would be able to be part of the Falcons this season. Troy told him of the hard work it would take to be part of a professional football team, etc, and to not be discouraged at the defeats that would be sure to come his way, but that he showed true promise and to carefully consider all it would take to become a football player. The two men took the time to talk to Gonzales and when Nate said he wanted to be part of the team, Gonzales said that he didn't see why Nate couldn't, that he felt the younger man had what it took since he had seen him play in practice before. Later, when the papers were signed, Troy congratulated Nate on his new profession and said he would be there for him, no matter what it took.

A young man who had been shot in a previous episode was shown in his home trying valiantly to get his left hand to work, using a manual can opener to try to open a can of soup, but unsuccessful in his attempts. Later in the show, he was seen crouching by a headstone in a cemetery, talking to a headstone about how thankful he was that he was still alive, that he felt the person in the grave had saved his life and that he would look forward to every single following day of life from now on, no matter how much pain he might be in that day. He would use the time remaining to him to try to improve his life and to try to help those around him. Tears appeared in his eyes as he stared at the headstone, then stood up and walked to his car.

Mel, a young man who had worked with the local television station but had been fired, was shown sweeping out part of the bar he worked at, and running into Jerry, a newly appointed director for the station. The two knew one another and when Mel congratulated Jerry on his new job, Jerry asked him if he missed the station and his ex co-workers. Mel said that he did but that he was mature enough to understand that sometimes life did not seem fair but he was wiiling to go on and make a better way for himself in life. Mel did not mind having to clean out a storage room he had been assigned to do that day and should get to it. Jerry said his goodbyes and left as the bar tender, who styled himself as the bar manager, came into the back room, asking Mel to begin cleaning the storage room as the boss had different ideas for it soon. The bar tender asked if Mel missed his old girlfriend, Millicent, whom Mel had seen leaving with another man on Halloween night. Mel said that he did miss her and the bar tender commented that he should seek her out, tell her his true feelings. Mel said he should get cracking on cleaning the room then. The bar tender was amazed with the results: Mel had transformed the formerly dingy dirty room into a dressing room where future entertainers could change and relax.

Little Sam had to wear braces and matching headgear to keep it in place. He was feeling very depressed and thought aloud that his little friend at school might just make fun of him. Mom came in wearing a black eye patch and when Sam commented how silly it looked, she said she was going to be wearing it for a while. When Sam protested, Mom said that he shouldn't be ashamed of his braces and that if he really, really did not want to wear them, well then, maybe he just did not need to? Sam was happy about it, but he felt that if his school friend said it was cool, then Sam would wear them. Mom allowed as that was a very good way to look at things and took off the eye patch. Later, when Sam appeared at school, his little friend approved of those braces, pronounced them "way cool" and the two children happily walked into the school together.
