Darkness On the Edge of Town - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
The car radio DJ tells everybody to get inside and batten down the
hatches, because there is one wicked storm en route.

Madison spells 'tsunami' correctly, and Jamie drops the ball on
'entrepreneur'. Madison wins, and Jamie congratulates her. Nathan tells
Jamie that second place is also known as first loser, and he should be
ashamed of himself. As a matter of fact, Jamie should walk home in the
rain, and think about how badly he screwed up. Jamie says "Grandpa
Dan?" Nathan smiles and says "Nice call." And by the way, Clay is sorry
he had to miss it. He's out on the road, checking with some clients. He
couldn't get back in time because of the storm. But Nathan knows that
Clay would be proud of him. Nathan is ready to head home, but Jamie was
hoping he could go out with his friends. Haley gives Jamie a huge
congratulatory hug, but tells Jamie the storm is too bad for him to join
his friends. He can either ride home with Chuck, or come with them to
see Quinn. Jamie chooses to hang with his friend, Chuck.

Brooke and Julian are having a heated discussion about why they live in
Tree Hill. It doesn't make any sense anymore, since her work isn’t
holding her there. Both of them would have opportunities in LA. that
just aren't possible here. Brooke throws Julian's mom in his face,
because apparently she gets involved in everything. He asks her not to
drag his mother into it. Brooke keeps going, and Julian quietly
reiterates that he said 'please'. Brooke changes tacks, saying that it
makes perfect sense. Julian wanted her to lose the company. Then it
would be so much easier to push for the move to Los Angeles. Julian says
this is ridiculous. They'll just spend less time together; they'll stay
here but he'll work in Los Angeles. It's not that big a deal. She gets
mad and leaves. He asks where she's going, there's a big storm outside.
She yells "It is a big deal!" on her way out the door.

Quinn loses Clay on a phone call. Katie shows up outside their house.

Haley is worried about Jamie. Nathan reassures her. The storm is really
bad, but Nathan likes it. He's had some pretty interesting experiences
in the rain. They get a flat tire and are able to pull safely off the
road. They find out they have no signal when Nathan attempts to call
roadside assistance.

Quinn loses the signal on her closed circuit camera. Her car alarm goes
off and she goes outside to stop it. Next, it appears that the ceiling
is leaking, but it's not. It's a very wet Katie, dripping over the edge
of the loft.

Julian calls Brooke to inform her that there is flooding and the levee
might break. On top of all that - he's sorry. And he loves her. Just
come home. She doesn't know if she can, as she can barely see the road.
Julian offers to come get her, but their call gets garbled and then
dropped just as Brooke screams. She sees a bloodied Chuck in the middle
of the road. He points at their flipped car, behind him on the bridge.

Brooke puts Chuck in her car and finds Jamie in the car. He’s stuck, but
she is able to get Madison out. She tells Madison to go get in the car
with Chuck, grab her phone, call 911 and tell them there's been an
accident on the Gable Bridge. Lauren is bleeding, unconscious. She
absolutely cannot get Jamie's seat belt unfastened.

Nathan changes the tire. Haley finds that they still don't have a
signal. If she wasn't pregnant, they could have sex in the back seat.
They both grin, even though he's soaked.

Quinn takes a knife and apple out of the kitchen. The spot where Katie
was standing is now vacant.

Brooke wakes up Lauren, and she's immediately panic-stricken. Brooke
reassures her that the children are fine, and tells her she is going to
go get some help. Jamie doesn't want to be there anymore, but he manages
to stay relatively calm. Chuck is losing consciousness, and Brooke tells
him to stay awake.

Quinn gets in bed and leaves Clay a 'good night' voice message.

Brooke gets emergency stuff out of the trunk and runs them to the car.
She puts a sun block shield over Lauren in case of flying glass, and
pries out the windshield so Lauren can escape. Madison comes and tells
Brooke that Chuck won't stay awake. Brooke tries to talk to him, but he
says he doesn't want to stay awake. Lauren says she’ll take the kids to
the hospital, and send somebody back to help Brooke and Jamie. She
starts getting him out, and notices that there is a live wire just outside.

Haley gets out to help Nathan and her umbrella blows away. He goes to
find it.

Katie walks in to wake up Quinn and she finds pillows under the covers.
Hide and seek? She loves that game! She pulls Quinn out from under the
bed, and Quinn stabs her in the thigh. Katie pulls her gun on Quinn and
says "Deja vu". Well. Except for the part where there's a knife in her
leg. Bullets didn't work on Quinn the first time, so she empties her gun
and throws the bullets out the window. She pulls the knife out of her
leg and says "Knives it is."

Quinn runs to her car. There's a tree down over her driveway, so she
can't leave. Katie stands in front of the car. Quinn runs back inside
and Katie nonchalantly follows, relatively certain of victory.

Brooke continues to saw away at Jamie's seat belt. He shows her his
ribbon for the spelling bee. Jamie asks where she was going when she
found them. She said just driving. She tells him she had a fight with
Julian over something dumb. She's stubborn, and stupid ... Jamie tells
her she's not stupid. She sees the live wire acting up some more and
asks Jamie to spell some words for her.

Katie laughs at Quinn, then starts yelling at her.

Jamie tells Brooke he missed the word on purpose so Madison would win.
Brooke says she likes Madison, and tells Jamie that Madison asked her if
Jamie was okay. She asks him what the first thing he's going to do when
he gets out of here, and Jamie says he’s going to tell his mom and dad
he loves them. He asks her, and she says she's going to say the same to
Julian.

Julian shows up. Brooke calls out, telling him they are okay. A car
comes from the other way and he waves at them to stop, but they are
unable to do so. They crash into Lauren’s car, knocking it off the bridge.

The car is filling with water, but it's on it's side so it doesn't sink.
Julian jumps in to try and free them. They don't have to worry, the car
is stuck on something so it won't sink. Julian says he’s got to get
Brooke out first so she can get help. He has to get Jamie out because
he’s going to be his best man. Brooke’s leg is stuck under the steering
column, so they need a crowbar. She said it should be here, since she
used it to pop the windshield. Jamie hears the rushing water from the
levee finally giving way. Brooke and Jamie instinctively tilt their
heads back so they can get air for as long as possible.

Katie finds Quinn and they struggle until Katie knocks her out.

Julian tries to get Brooke out with a crow bar. Brooke tells Julian to
help Jamie. She keeps telling Julian Jamie is just a boy. Help him
first. Julian pulls the seat out and takes Jamie to the shore.

Katie continues to beat up on Quinn, trying to choke her. Quinn puts
her finger in the knife wound, and Katie howls in primal pain and rage.
Quinn runs in the storm. Katie says she’ll be her storm, and she will
find Quinn. Quinn tackles Katie on the balcony, and they both fall into
the pool.

Jamie watches from the bridge. Julian can’t find the crow bar. He can't
believe this is happening. They are going to stay in Tree Hill and be
together. He'll never, ever leave her again. Before the water overtakes
Brooke, she tells Julian she loves him. He finds the crowbar, and gives
Brooke mouth-to-mouth until he can free her. Jamie calls to them from
shore. Julian keeps trying to get Brooke out but she appears to drown,
still stuck.

Katie comes up out of the water but Quinn is lying in the middle of the
pool.

Jamie yells from the bridge. Julian finally comes up with Brooke. He
carries her to the shore, but she remains unresponsive.

Katie walks out of the pool. She won, or so she thinks. Quinn is wrapped
in the pool cover, safe. For now.

Julian tries to resuscitate Brooke.

Quinn finds one of the bullets. Katie is in the kitchen, listening to
Willie Nelson and making tea. Quinn comes up to the house. Katie sees
her and grabs a knife. Quinn finds the gun, puts one bullet in. Katie
comes in and says it’s empty. Quinn plays Russian roulette with the gun
until the one bullet in there is fired and hits Katie.

Nathan and Haley pull up and see Jamie. He says "Dad, Brooke is dead."
Nathan tells them to wait here, and he goes to Julian. Haley takes Jamie
in the car. Julian is doing mouth-to-mouth and CPR. He starts crying
over Brooke, devastated. He sees her hand move and renews his efforts.
Brooke sputters back to life, and cries in Julian's arms.

Katie says she can't breathe. Quinn says she knows. Katie will pass out
soon enough. Unlike Quinn, she won’t lay there for 12 hours. Only a
psycho would let you do that. Quinn turns off the record player and cries.

Brooke calls out for Julian, as she is loaded into the ambulance. He
tells her he is right there, and he's not going anywhere.

Quinn tells the ambulance to wait. She goes to Katie and whispers "I'm
your storm." She goes back inside as the ambulance drives away.

Nate, Haley and Jamie are in bed together, sleeping.

Julian cradles Brooke's head on his lap, as she sleeps.

Quinn wakes on the couch. She gets up and goes to the patio door and
opens the curtains, and the door.
