Episode Quotes
Lucas: (voiceover) Octavio Paz once wrote "Solitude is the profoundest fact of the human condition. Man is the only being who knows he is alone".

Lucas: Kill or be killed.
Dan: It's the way of the world.

Mouth: (standing up from his seat and walking forward to the podium) I'll speak for her (at the podium) We just heard Principal Turner read a list of Erica's accomplishments. I could try to do that for Brooke, but it would be kind of a short speech. As you know, Brooke's probably one of the most popular people in school. Something I'm definitely not and yet, she's my friend. She never cared what clique I was part of, the kinds of clothes I wore or the fact that I have to ride the bus. She looked past that stuff. And when you think about it, isn't that what we want in our president; someone who can see past the superficial differences and bring us together? This year, Brooke's had her share of ups and downs just like all of us. But most of you never saw it, because even when life got hard, Brooke never let it in. She was just ... Brooke; tough, smart, one of a kind. And I don't know about you but those are things that I look for in a leader. Brooke Davis is my friend. But that's not why I'm voting for her. I'm voting for her because of her heart and her spirit ... and because she' s the best person for the job.

Jake: You know, um, I wasn't entirely honest with you before.
Peyton: About what?
Jake: The reason I came back.
Peyton: You said you were tired of running.
Jake: Yeah, but that's not the only reason. See, the whole time that I was gone, I kept thinking about all this stuff that I should have done when I had the chance but didn't.
Peyton: Well, like what kinda stuff?
Jake: I don't know. Mostly being with you.

Nathan: You know Miss Hand, if more teachers dressed like sluts attendance in this place would skyrocket.

Episode Goofs

Episode Title: Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows

"Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows" is the title of a song by Brand New.

Analysis
"Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows"

The lyrics to the song for which the episode is named are similar in theme to the plot of this episode. The chorus of the lyrics are about the regret that is being felt over a lover lost, similar to how Nathan reverts back to his old ways after losing Haley. The lyrics also contain lines about problems within a relationship that go unnoticed but end up as something more in the long run, much like how Chris and Haley working together started out as nothing big, but quickly escalated into the breakup of Nathan and Haley's marriage. The full lyrics to the song can be found here.

This episode marks a large change in Brooke's personality as compared to her personality in season 1. During this episode, Brooke runs for student counsel president and is forced to rely on herself to succeed instead of the help of others as she's done in previous episodes. It also shows a change in her personality to a more responsible Brooke than that of the first season. Here she's willing to take on the responsibility of being a class leader where as in last season she most likely would never have willingly run for such a position.
