Episode Quotes

Lucas: (voiceover) Henry David Thoueau once wrote "Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit and resign yourself to the influences of each."

Haley: You've changed.
Nathan: Yeah, I guess I have you to thank for that.

Lucas: It's gonna be okay Hales. As a matter of fact, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship ... again.

Brooke: Morning sleeping bitchy!

Lucas: So I guess you're still pissed at me, which personally I think is crap, but you tell me: are we friends?
Nathan: Tell you what. I'll play you for it. Game to eleven. Make it, take it. For our friendship.

Brooke: You are not allowed to sulk tonight.
Haley: I don't sulk!
Brooke: You sulk. You're a sulker.

Haley: I saw your car. I didn't know you were home.
Nathan: Yeah, I know.
Haley: Did you get the letters I sent?
Nathan: Yeah.
Haley: It's good to see you.
Nathan: Look, Haley, I can't do this, alright?
Haley: You can't do what? You can't talk to me? You didn't even tell me you were home Nathan. What were you going to do, pass me in the halls at school and not say a word?
Nathan: I didn't even know if you would be in school.
Haley: I told you I'm back for good.

Lucas: I'm the guy for you. I know we're just part time and that's cool, do your thing, have your fun. But one of these nights you're going to realize it. I'm the guy for you Brooke Davis. You'll see.

Haley: Nathan, I'm not going anywhere.
Nathan: Okay.

Brooke: Check it out: I get Lucas, Mouth, half the guys on the team -- I put my first choices her but we can totally mix and match -- any and all lifeguards, Nathan’s uncle Cooper’s so hot, Larry ...
Peyton: Whoa, Larry, like, my dad Larry?
Brooke: Of course, he’s my hot dad fantasy.

Brooke: Hey, great idea.
Haley: What?
Brooke: Wearing your wedding ring. It’s like a total aphrodisiac for some guys.
Haley: I just needed to be an aphrodisiac for one guy.
Brooke: Why, do you have a new guy?
Haley: For Nathan, Brooke.

(to Brooke about her furniture)
Lucas: Oh, 1972's outside, it wants its furniture back.

Episode Goofs

When Haley pours herself a glass of soda while Brooke and Lucas are together on the couch, the glass is half-full at first. When she walks over to talk to Lucas while Brooke is in the bedroom, the class is full.

In the first scene after Lucas and Nathan's one-on-one game, Nathan throws the ball at Lucas after he wins and it bounces behind him. When the camera pans out while Nathan is walking away, the ball is lying in the grassy area in front of Lucas, not behind him.

During the one-on-one game, the patches of sweat on Lucas' shirt appear then disappear throughout the game.

Analysis

"From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea"

The lyrics of the song "From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea", like most episodes, can be related to the emotions of the characters during this episode, especially Nathan's now that Haley has returned to Tree Hill. In the song, the lyrics speak about a returned love who's broken the subject of the song's heart before and they worry that it will happen again. During the episode, both Brooke and Nathan struggle with letting their past loves back in, Lucas and Haley, respectively, worrying that they will get hurt again.
