Episode Quotes

Lucas: (voiceover) Ida Scott Taylor once wrote, "Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone and do not be troubled for the future for it is yet to come. Live in the present and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering."

Peyton: Look, I hate to ask, okay? But over the summer you kinda promised that if I ever wanted to go and find Ellie you would come with me!?
Lucas: Yeah, I remember. Did you find her?
Peyton: And I think I wanna go see her.
Lucas: Today?
Peyton: Right now actually, cause if I don't go I never will and I need to. Will you go?
Lucas: Sure. A promise is a promise.

Brooke: Mouth, you didn't exactly break any speed records driving over here, you know.
Mouth: You called me 17 minutes ago and I drive a bicycle, Brooke.

Brooke: See you later, boyfriend. (Lucas smiles) What?
Lucas: Nothing. Just feels good to hear you call me boyfriend.
Brooke: Feels good to say it.

Haley: Hey. What's up?
Nathan: I just wanted to see you.

Lucas: Welcome to my world, Brooke. Or at least it used to be.
Brooke: I have been here before you know.
Lucas: I know, but i just never told you what this place is to me. It's not just a court. It's where I came from. It's where I belong. It's my world.
Brooke: So, do I get to be a part of this world?
Lucas: The biggest part.

Lucas: I'm sorry, Brooke. It was Peyton.
Brooke: Peyton? As in my best friend and your ex-girlfriend, Peyton?

Haley: Mr. Scott, can you please leave? You're really creeping me out.
Dan: You know, at least Peyton was pleasant in the morning.

Episode Goofs

In the final scene, Brooke goes over to sit by Mouth at the rivercourt while Lucas plays with the guys. After Lucas makes a jumpshot and Mouth says "nice shot", the camera switches to a bird's eye view of the court. In this shot, Brooke is walking towards Mouth again.

When Lucas is talking to Faith after he visits her at the basketball court, Faith's bag switches from being on her right shoulder to being on her left shoulder between shots.

As Lucas and Peyton are driving back to Tree Hill, Peyton leans her head on Lucas' shoulder as he drives. When the camera pans to show the car driving off into the distance, Peyton is clearly driving, not Lucas.

Cultural References

Episode Title: Brave New World

"Brave New World" is the title of a song recorded by several artists including Iron Maiden, Styx, Motorhead, and Steve Miller Band.

Analysis

The "brave new world" referred to in the episode title can be related to Brooke venturing into her new Clothes Over Bros clothing line as well as Peyton deciding to make an effort with her birth mother, Ellie. Aside from Brooke and Peyton, Deb also ventures into her own "brave new world" by deciding to leave Dan and make a life on her own.
