<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Flashback: Young Dan and Young Keith find an injured Raven. Keith wants to nurse it back to health, but Dan crushes it with a rock saying it was weak.

Everyone gathers for Keith’s funeral as Lucas narrates about the stages of grief. While Dan stands by Keith’s grave, he sees the ghost of Young Keith in the cemetery.

Title Card: Denial

Karen and Lucas stand together at Keith’s grave. In Nathan’s room, Haley and Nathan change for the reception. They talk about how quickly things can change and how close they were from losing each other in the school shooting.

At the reception, Mouth mentions Jimmy Edwards’ funeral, setting Lucas off. On his way to the reception, Dan sees the ghost of Young Keith once again. Peyton arrives with her father to the reception where Larry thanks Lucas for saving Peyton during the shooting. Peyton and Brooke talk about her injury.

Back at Nathan’s, Nathan and Haley are lying in bed together. Nathan reminisces about his paper route and the peacefulness of the dawn. He tells Haley that he wants to come home and be her husband again. Haley mentions she still lives with Brooke, their dream schools are 3000 miles away from each other, and that neither of them have jobs. Nathan tells her it all doesn’t matter, and that things can change in the time it takes to shoot a gun, so they need to live life to the fullest while they can.

During the first day back at school, metal detectors have been installed. Students have created a memorial for Jimmy Edwards, which Lucas kicks over as he walks by.

Title Card: Anger

At the apartment, Brooke and Haley look at the fabric Brooke had ordered for Karen’s wedding dress. Haley breaks the news that she and Nathan are going to be living together again and she’ll be moving out once they find an apartment.

Larry checks on Peyton and her wound. He talks to her about the way he felt when he got the call, a call similar to the one when his wife died. They talk about the albums that Ellie left for Peyton and how she hasn’t been able to listen to them.

Lucas gets a text message about going to the high school. There, Rachel has put together a school-wide party. Brooke tells him how it’s a cleansing for the school, how everyone is coming together after the tragedy, and how she’s here for him. Lucas finds Peyton sitting alone in the library. He teases her for kissing him and telling him that she loves him. Peyton makes sure that nothing is weird between them, and Lucas apologizes for not being there for Peyton when her birth mother died.

Lucas storms out of the party after another student gives out “shooters in the hallway.” Brooke tries to catch up with him, and Lucas tells her she doesn’t understand because “she wasn’t there.” Rachel and Mouth follow behind and Mouth reminds him that two people died in the school. Lucas leaves, telling them all he can’t deal with it right now.

Title Card: Fear

Skills visits Lucas at his house and tells him that he and the guys have decided not to go to Jimmy’s funeral. Lucas asks Skills if there is a heaven, and Skills tells him that he thinks there’s something else out there and that what ever we do in this world matters in the next. They talk about Jimmy and how it’s hard to believe he killed Keith and wonder about if heaven will hold it against him.

Nathan and Haley slow dance at the school party and talk about how it’s never to soon to love.

In bed, Dan hears Young Keith’s voice asking “why did you do this to me.” He sees his ghost, but when he turns the light on, the ghost disappears.

As Karen cleans out Keith’s apartment, Dan stops by. She grills him about how badly he treated Keith and how he’ll never be able to take any of it back now. Dan hopes aloud that he hopes he will be able to make up with Lucas, and mentions that Lucas went back into the school and saved him from the dealership fire.

Karen confronts Lucas about saving Dan from the dealership fire. She calls him selfish and stupid. Lucas tells Karen it’s his fault – if he hadn’t gone back into the school, Keith would still be alive. He tells Karen he’s sorry, but Karen tells him sorry won’t bring him back.

Title Card: Guilt

Mouth puts Jimmy’s memorial back together at the school. Rachel tells him it wasn’t his fault and how he couldn’t have saved Jimmy. Rachel asks Mouth to dance with her.

Brooke finds Nathan and Haley together in the tutor center. She gives them her apartment key and tells them the apartment is there’s now. Nathan asks about Lucas and Brooke tells them he’s hanging in there. Brooke leaves and Haley and Nathan leave too to find Lucas. Before they leave, Nathan pulls up the tape line on the tutor center floor.

Montage of Scenes: Dan visits Keith’s grave; Lucas cries in Keith’s car; Karen finds Keith’s petition for adoption papers; Peyton sits alone in the dark; Karen has flashbacks to Keith coming back to town

As Rachel and Mouth dance, she kisses him. When Mouth asks why she did that, she tells him because he isn’t going to like her ten seconds from now. Rachel reveals that she was the one that released the time capsule – the school shooting is her fault, not his. Mouth says she was right, he doesn’t like her anymore.

Title Card: Depression

Nathan and Haley visit Lucas at the café. Lucas gives Haley his predictions, telling her they are not going to come true. He tells him that Karen blames him for Keith’s death, and Haley tells him it wasn’t his fault.

Lucas goes back to the school to find Brooke. Whitey’s there and they talk about Keith. Lucas tells him how Keith was going to be his dad; Whitey tells him he was his father, no matter what any papers said. He tells Lucas a story about when Keith was on the basketball team and helped him though Camilla’s death.

At Keith’s grave, Dan sees Young Keith running through the cemetery and hears his voice. Dan tells him that he did what he did and will not regret it – Keith started the war and Dan finished it. Dan spits on his grave as he leaves.

Title Card: Acceptance

Nathan and Haley walk into their apartment to find that Brooke made them a comforter out of Karen’s wedding dress material. Haley wishes it was raining.

Peyton arrives home and Larry informs her that Pete from Fall Out Boy is here to see her.

Nathan brings Haley out to the football field and he tells her that if anything ever happens to him, he wants her to know how happy she’s made him. The sprinklers come on and Nathan says “you wanted rain.” They kiss as the sprinklers hit them.

Lucas comes home to find Brooke in his bed. He tells her he loves her, even if he doesn’t tell her. Brooke admits that she wishes it was her that got shot so that Lucas could rescue her instead of Peyton.

Brooke visits Peyton at her house and checks on her leg. Brooke apologizes for leaving Peyton during the shooting. In Peyton’s room, Larry is building shelves for all the records that Ellie willed her. Larry tells Brooke and Peyton that Brooke is moving in.

Karen cuts herself while doing dishes. Lucas comes in dressed for Jimmy’s funeral. Karen tells him to change, but Lucas refuses telling her it’s what Keith would have wanted.

Lucas, Skills, Mouth, Junk and Fergie drive to Jimmy’s funeral. There they find Jimmy’s mother alone at his grave and console her.
