When It Isn't Like It Should Be - Recap

Nathan and Brooke pick up Lucas for the weekend getaway. Karen is huddled in her room, crying. Outside Mouth, Nathan, Haley, Peyton and Skills are loading up Nathan’s car with baggage. Rachel pulls up with Bevin; the gang teases Peyton about Pete Wentz.

They all arrive at Rachel’s cabin where everyone picks their room. In Lucas and Brooke’s room, Lucas gives her his latest letter. Mouth tells off Rachel, telling her the weekend is only her way of relieving her guilt.

Nathan and Lucas ride around the property on the ATVs. When they stop, Nathan shows Lucas Haley’s wedding ring that he stole from her – he is going to ask her to remarry him. Lucas agrees to help him.

Back at the cabin, Haley is freaking out about losing her wedding ring. Peyton and Rachel help her find it. They think that she may have washed it down the drain.

In the hot tub, Brooke reads Lucas’ letter. She gets out to find Lucas and asks Bevin and Skills where Lucas is. They tell her he’s out in the woods on ATVs and won’t be back for awhile.

Haley, Peyton and Rachel take apart the sink to find Haley’s wedding ring. Rachel walks in on Brooke “Brooking” herself. Haley and Peyton walk in trying to find paper towels. They try to open a cabinet, but Rachel tells them it’s private storage.

That night, the gang heads to a Sunkist sponsored club night. Haley has mittens on to hide the fact that she lost her wedding ring.

Back at the cabin, Mouth lies awake in a bunk bed and talks to Peyton about her gun shot wound. In the morning, Brooke comes downstairs to find Pete Wentz cooking breakfast and kisses him, thinking it was a dream. Peyton, Rachel and Lucas come downstairs, all amazed that Pete is in the kitchen.

Lucas takes Brooke outside to show her that he has Haley’s ring and tells her about Nathan’s re-proposal. Haley bursts outside and sees Lucas holding her ring. She takes it back from him, happy to have it back.

Bevin and Skills go hiking and Skills worries that they are going to get lost. Bevin reassures him that she always knows where north is, so Skills spins her around and has her point to north. She points in a different direction.

Peyton and Pete go on a walk together as therapy for her leg. They sit on a swing together and talk.

Lucas and Nathan are in a boat fishing and Lucas breaks the news to Nathan that Haley has her ring back. Nathan is upset that his plans have fallen through, saying that their plans have always fallen through the entire time they’ve been married. They leave the lake to get Haley’s ring back.

Bevin and Skills are lost in the wilderness. Skills is playing his PSP while Bevin decides to build a camp fire. However, she burns the last match and does not have more.

Lucas tells Brooke that he has to get the ring back. Brooke tells her she’ll help. In the hot tub, Brooke warns Haley that she shouldn’t be wearing her wedding ring in the hot tub. Instead of taking it off, she puts in around a necklace. While doing dishes, Brooke tries to swipe the ring, but Haley sees her and gets it back. That night, Haley is dozing off on the couch and Brooke tries to squirt lotion on her finger so that she can slip it off. However, the lotion wakes Haley up and Brooke runs off.

Lucas goes outside with a flashlight to find Bevin and Skills. They follow Lucas’ flashlight and make it back.

After dinner, the gang decides to play “I Never.” On Rachel’s turn, she says “I’ve never been caught ‘Brooking’ myself.” Brooke is horrified, but everyone laughs. Nathan walks out and Lucas follows. Outside they talk about Keith and how Nathan regrets not spending enough time with him.

Later, Nathan, Haley, Lucas and Brooke are all sitting together. Haley falls asleep on Nathan’s lap and Brooke decides to “accidentally” spill her drink on Haley so that they can get the wedding ring back. Brooke sneaks into the bathroom to get Haley’s ring, but accidentally drops the watch it was hooked on in the toilet. She grabs the ring and runs out.

Peyton and Pete are lying in bed together. They talk about tattoos and later talk about how their relationship is supposed to work. Mouth pops his head down from the top bunk and asks them to be quiet.

Mouth walks outside to find Rachel alone in the hot tub. He tells her that the weekend was a great thing and it’s helped them all to heal. Rachel says it doesn’t make up for opening the time capsule and tells him that she opened it so that it would reveal to everyone who everyone else really is, but never meant for anyone to die. Mouth forgives her.

In front of the fire, Lucas tells Brooke a story about going camping with Keith and his mom. He worries that his mother will never get over Keith’s death.

Back in Tree Hill, Karen visits Dan with a box of belongs of Keith’s. She shows him the adoption papers, an invitation to Keith’s wedding to Jules, mementos from Keith Scott Motors. She tells Dan that it’s his fault Keith is dead – he let him go back into the school. Karen says she wishes it was him that died, not Keith.

Nathan takes Haley out on a dock and asks her about why she’s had her hands in her pockets all weekend. She reveals that she lost the ring, twice. Nathan pulls the ring out of his pocket and tells her he stole it, twice. He gets down on one knee and asks her to marry him again. She pulls the ring off of Nathan’s chain and puts it around his finger.

As everyone packs to leave, Peyton kisses Pete goodbye. They load up the vehicles and drive away.
