  Episode Quotes
Lucas: (opening voiceover) My name is Lucas Scott. I'm a senior at Tree Hill High School. Tree Hill is just a place somewhere in the world. Maybe it's a lot like your world. Maybe it's nothing like it. But if you look closer, you might see someone like you. Or someone like my best friend, Haley. If you're married, a senior in high school, and not sure if your husband is still alive, then I'd say your world is a lot like Haley's. Today was supposed to be the best day of her life. But it's amazing how things can change in the blink of an eye. Or, in this case, in 29 minutes.

Lucas: (closing voiceover) My name is Lucas Scott. I'm a senior at Tree Hill High School. I play basketball -- at least I used to. I have a girlfriend -- at least I used to. And I have a best friend. Tree Hill is just a place somewhere in the world. Maybe it's a lot like your world, maybe it's nothing like it. But if you look closer, you might see someone like you, or someone like you. Someone trying to find their way. Someone trying to find their place. Someone trying to find their self. Sometimes it seems like you are the only one in the world who's struggling, who's frustrated, unsatisfied, barely getting by. But that feeling's a lie. And if you just hold on, just find the courage to face it all for another day, someone or something will find you and make it all okay. Because we all need a little help sometimes-someone to helps us hear the music in their world, to remind us that it won't always be this way. That someone is out there. And that someone will find you.

Rachel: Slut.
Brooke: Bitch.
Rachel: Whore. Well I know I'm not in Heaven because they'd never let Brooke Davis's skanky ass through the gates.
Brooke: And, your ass wouldn't fit; at least not the old one. How are you?
Rachel: Is Cooper okay?
Brooke: I don't know I'm sorry. Do you remember what happened?
Rachel: We were arguing.
Brooke: About what?
Rachel: I told him I was pregnant. But, I lied. I'm not pregnant. I just wanted to scare him.

Lucas: Brooke kind of found out that I kissed Peyton, again.
Skills: Well, it's a good thing you’re in a hospital; 'cause your sorry ass in bad shape bro.

Nathan: (to Haley) Today, for the first time in a long time, it doesn’t feel like anything's going to be okay.

Brooke: Listen, I know it's been difficult for you lately. Losing Keith and your heart condition and giving up basketball. I feel like I've been keeping you close to me to try to protect you from those things. Like I'm hanging onto the two of us for you, but not for me.
Lucas: I'm sorry I kissed Peyton, I should have told you.
Brooke: It's not about that Luke, it's not. mean I thought that it was, but this is not about her. This is about me. I love you Lucas, and I probably always will. But, we go days without having a meaningful conversation. And, I used to miss you so much when that happened. But, it never seemed like you missed me. And, I guess because of it I stopped missing you. I mean, look at today there was a horrible accident and you hadn't even called me ... it shouldn't be like this Luke. I'm sorry. I can't do this anymore.
Lucas: Brooke, I'm sorry.
Brooke: Yea, me too.

Haley: Nathan, you're a hero. You did everything that you could.
Nathan: Did I?

  Episode Goofs
In the beginning of the episode, the trees in the background are bare, but in later scenes the trees in the background have bloomed. When "The Show Must Go On" was filmed, the trees were bare, but when season four began to shoot in July the trees had bloomed.

About four and a half minutes into the episode, Lucas jumps off of the bridge into the water. When the shot returns to Haley and Karen on the bridge, for a split second a man in black pants and a white shirt is seen exiting the scene in the left hand side of the screen.

Rachel's hair is a lot longer in this episode than it is in "The Show Must Go On".

Episode Title: The Same Deep Water As You

"The Same Deep Water As You" is the title of a song by The Cure from their Disintegration album.

  Analysis
Like most episode titles do throughout the series, the premise of this episode reflects the lyrics in the song for which the episode is named, "The Same Deep Water As You". Nathan struggles to get out of the car and nearly drowns in the process. In the song, references to drowning are made, but a deeper meaning is also portrayed, referring to death and "one last kiss", much like the last kiss that Nathan and Haley shared before he dove into the water.
