Pictures of You - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
The episode opens in a classroom at Tree Hill High. The teacher asks the class who was out all night drinking and wore the same clothes as yesterday, then jokes that he must be the only one. He begins the class by asking if today's class really matters, or if it's just a requirement. Mouth is asked to describe in one word how his classmates see him. He says that he's probably seen as "awesome". The teacher writes the five universal high school categories on the chalkboard: jocks, geeks, loners, prom queens, and those who are "friendly" (which he writes instead of sluts). Shelly is asked to describe Mouth with one of the words on the board, and she reluctantly describes him as a geek. The class is then asked to describe Nathan, who is unanimously described as a jock; same for Lucas; Brooke is described as a prom queen by the class; Rachel is described as "friendly"; and Peyton as a prom queen. Peyton says that she's a loner, not a prom queen, but Glenda says that she's a loner -- Peyton's a prom queen. The teacher says that each student is who their classmates seem them as, but he'll try to change that with his assignment for the rest of the class period. He asks Haley what Lucas' middle name is, and she replies "Eugene" before regretting revealing his middle name to the entire class. Lucas is asked Glenda's last name, but Lucas doesn't know, proving the teacher's point that despite being together for four years, they don't know too much about classmates they don't normally spend time with. Half of the class put their name in a hat and the other half chooses names from the hat. Shelly draws Mouth, Haley draws Skills, Rachel draws Bevin, and Glenda draws Lucas; Before Brooke has a chance to say who she chose, Peyton trades her, letting Brooke have Chase as a partner and leaving Nathan to be Peyton's partner. Each pair is given a camera and the assignment sheet. Before leaving the classroom, the teacher mentions that Brooke is failing calculus, much to the shock of Chase.

During the class period, the students have to do five things:
1. Share something personal;
2. Lighten up. Do an impression of a celebrity or famous character;
3. Admit something that worries you or you are afraid of;
4. What do you want to be in 10 years?;
5. Tell your partner a secret.

Glenda and Lucas have a rough beginning following Lucas not knowing her last name. Lucas apologizes and asks if they can just get the assignment over with. For the first question, Glenda tells Lucas that her last name is Farrell, then walks away. Chase, angry at Brooke, refuses to listen to an explanation about why Brooke lied about her calculus grade and has been tutoring Chase in calculus despite failing. The personal thing that Brooke shares is that she cheated on her exam. Mouth tells Shelly that his middle name is Leonardo for the first question and Shelly tells Mouth about her first serious relationship then walks off. Mouth approaches her and tells her that he's intimidated by how beautiful she is. Rachel and Bevin head to the bathroom. Rachel blocks the doorway and goes into one of the stalls to smoke a joint. To answer the first question, Rachel tells Bevin that she likes marijuana. Nathan shows Peyton how he carved her initials on the weights in the Tree Hill weight room and the two reminisce about when they used to date. Up on the roof, Haley feels her baby kick for the first time and lets Skills feel as part of her answer to the first question.

For the second question, each person does an impression. Mouth impersonates a sports announcer. Lucas does several impressions including Captain Jack Sparrow and a Lord Of The Rings character (which Glenda mistakes for Elmo). Haley also does several impressions: Ashley Olsen, Joey from Dawson's Creek, and Scarface. Nathan and Peyton do impressions of Borat. Brooke impersonates Marilyn Monroe.

After the impressions, things turn serious again for the third question. Nathan admits that he's scared as hell about being a father. Haley tells Skills that even though she's excited about being a mother, she's worried that having a child will stop her from making a mark on the world and worries that her child will feel like he doesn't fit in. Skills tells her that no matter what, he'll have her child's back. Glenda reveals to Lucas that she's afraid of her mother, who loves diamonds more than her. Lucas shows Glenda a novel that he's been working on and hasn't told anyone about -- since basketball didn't work out, Lucas wants to be a writer and hopes that his novel doesn’t suck now that writing is all he has. Brooke tells Chase she’s afraid of not being enough – not pretty enough, not smart enough. Chase is confused; Brooke is the most popular girl in school and student council president. Brooke reveals that her parents haven’t called in months.

The pairs then talk about where they want to be in 10 years. Skills tells Haley that his father works in a factory and if he doesn’t get a college scholarship, he’ll be working at the factory with his father. Haley tells Skills that she might want to be a teacher since she loves to tutor so much. Nathan tells Peyton what he hopes will happen to his loved ones – Haley will have a successful music career, his son with have a great cross-over dribble. Peyton tells Nathan the he needs to put himself first once in awhile so he doesn’t end up regretting what could have been, much like Dan. Lucas hopes that he’ll be a writer, or if that doesn’t work out he could coach the Ravens. Glenda wants to be as far away from Tree Hill as possible. Rachel, who is now stoned, says she wants to be 28 in 10 years, and Bevin responds “not at this rate”. Brooke wants her fashion line to be a success in 10 years, and Chase dreams of being a pilot.

Lastly the pairs have to tell each other a secret. Brooke tells Chase about a bet she made with Rachel that that Brooke wouldn’t be able to sleep with Chase after three dates. Chase tells Brooke that if she quits lying, he’d really like the real Brooke. Rachel reveals that she hasn’t had any feelings for any of the guys she’s slept with, and wonders if she’s into girls. Bevin kisses her and Rachel shoves her away; Bevin says since Rachel didn’t feel anything during the kiss, she’s into guys because Bevin is a good kisser. Skills gives Haley a letter from college that will say whether or not he got a scholarship. Haley opens it to find that Skills received a full-ride scholarship to college. Nathan tells Peyton about his mother’s suicide attempt and how, for a second, he felt relieved. Peyton tells Nathan she can’t whistle. Shelly admits to Mouth that she thinks he’s hot and they kiss. Glenda admits that she lied earlier – she’ll miss Tree Hill when she leaves. She then tells Lucas about a boyfriend she made up hoping that her mom would like her more because she’s disappointed that Glenda is a goth. Bevin tells Rachel that she’s not dumb despite what everyone thinks.

For the final part of their assignment, each of the pairs have to take their pictures of one another. Brooke stands in front of the overhead screen with various phrases and labels projected over her. Brooke takes a photo of Chase while skateboarding with “Clean Teen” drawn on the bottom of his skateboard. Nathan’s picture is of him standing shirtless in front of the Raven’s symbol in the gym with his arms spread out holding two basketballs, one in each hand with the Raven’s wings spread out behind him. Nathan takes a picture of Peyton as she turns around and pretends to punch the camera, since she’s “not into cameras following recent events”. Mouth takes a picture of Shelly, who is topless with her arms covering her breasts and the word teen written across her chest. Shelly takes a picture of Mouth wearing sunglasses while she whispers in his ear. In the bathroom, Rachel takes a picture of Bevin standing in front of a urinal since Bevin revealed that she always wanted to know what it was liked to be a guy. Bevin tries to take a picture of Rachel, but the picture is blurry and Rachel is hardly in it. Haley’s picture is of skills holding her with her hands and legs stretched out. Skills’ picture is of him holding his acceptance letter. Glenda takes a picture of Lucas while wearing goth makeup.

The episode closes with Lucas running over to Glenda as she gets into the car with her mother. He asks Glenda to read his novel so far because he needs someone he trusts to tell him what they think about it. He then tells her that he had a good time with her during class and tells her mother hello. Glenda smiles to herself as the car pulls away. Lucas walks away with his arm around Peyton as the closing voice over plays: “And I learned that one hour can change everything.”
