The episode opens with a flashback to two years ago on the night that Brooke/Nathan sex tape was made. Nathan is drunk and flirting with girls at a party at Nathan’s house. Peyton becomes angry with him, but nothing she says phases Nathan so she breaks it off with him. Peyton leaves the party and Nathan sits down on the couch with Brooke, who is also drunk. He talks to Brooke about how Peyton just broke up with him. Their stares meet and the scene cuts to Brooke and Nathan kissing in a bedroom. Nathan and Brooke pull their shirts off and fall onto a bed together. Nathan stops kissing her to turn on the video camera. Brooke hesitates, but agrees to let him film them when he says he’ll delete it.
Back at the pre-Prom party in the present day, everyone at the party is watching the sex tape in disbelief. Peyton walks over to Brooke and punches her in the eye.
At Rachel’s house, Brooke is holding a bag of peas to her face. Rachel tells her it could be worse – she could be Nathan right now. Brooke tells her that it’s bad since it’s the day of prom and she has a black eye. Lucas stops by to check on Brooke and they talk about Peyton.
At Nathan’s, Nathan continues to apologize, which he had been doing all night, to Haley from outside the bedroom door. Haley comes out of the room to tell him that she’s angry that he never told her about him and Brooke being together and even angrier that he’d tape it. As they argue, Haley remembers that she agreed to help Brooke decorate the gym for Prom. Haley leaves and Deb arrives home from rehab. Looking around at all the bottles left over from the party, Deb apologizes to Nathan for leaving the house in such bad shape and as Nathan leaves he tells her to clean it up.
Lucas stops by Peyton’s after he leaves Brooke’s. Peyton is still angry about the night before and becomes angry at Lucas when she finds out that he stopped by Brooke’s before coming to see her. Lucas tries to explain that her house was on the way, but Peyton tells him to leave.
Nathan comes by Brooke’s house to apologize for the tape and the night before. They talk about how much everything has changed in the last two years and they apologize to each other that everything got this far. Brooke leaves to decorate for Prom.
At Tree Hill High, Brooke comes in and tries to avoid Haley by hiding behind a man carrying in a bunch of inflated balloons, but Haley sees her anyway. Brooke apologizes for being late and Haley fires back “That’s what you’re apologizing for?”. Brooke tries to explain; telling Haley that she and Nathan slept together before either of them even knew Haley and before Haley knew Nathan. Bevin chimes in and tells Haley that she “really shouldn’t be upset, Nathan used to hook up with everyone.” Haley storms off.
As Brooke is decorating, Peyton comes by and taps everyone on the head – “duck, duck, bitch” she says as she taps Brooke on the head. Brooke tries to apologize to Peyton, but Peyton refuses to listen, calling Brooke a back-stabbing whore as she walks over to Chase to tell him “good luck with your cheating girlfriend”.
Back at Deb’s, Haley is going through all of video tapes in the house, searching for any more sex tapes that Nathan may have had lying around. Nathan assures her that there are no other tapes, but Nathan tells her what Bevin told her at school. Haley tells him that since Nathan’s been with a ton of girls, he must have taped more than just one, and then demands a list of everyone that he’s ever been with. She gives him the phonebook and tells him it might be easier to just cross out everyone that he hasn’t slept with. Haley starts crying as she tells him that she can give him her list right now – he’s the only one on it. Haley leaves.
Lucas visits Peyton again to tell her he was sorry for visiting Brooke first and Peyton tells him that it’s okay. She holds up two dresses, one white and one red, and Lucas tells her that he likes the red one the best. But Peyton tells him that he would since it’s Brooke’s dress and she stole it from the store. Lucas tells her that she’s starting to take this too far, having stolen Brooke’s Prom dress and all, and that this is all beneath her.
At school, Brooke is decorating and talking to Mouth about everything that’s gone wrong since the sex tape.
Lucas arrives home and finds Karen in her room trying to pick out a dress to wear. She tells Lucas that Dan invited her to chaperone the Prom with him and that she said yes. Lucas can’t believe that his mother would agree to go to the Prom with Dan, and starts going through Karen’s closet. She asks him what he’s doing and he replies “looking for his real mom”. Karen tells him that she could just stay home alone while Lucas is out having fun, the same thing she’s done for the past 17 years.
Nathan stops by the beach house to visit Dan. He walks in to find Dan listening to his iPod, practicing his dance moves. Nathan tells him that he screwed up and needs some advise and came to Dan since he’s an expert at screwing up. He tells Dan about the sex tape he made with Brooke (and Dan’s impressed that Nathan slept with Brooke) and about the list that Haley wants him to make. Dan tells Nathan to not write a list, making Nathan realize that he needs to make the list.
In the gym, Chase comes over to talk to Brooke. He tells her that they can still go to Prom together, but after that they’re over. Brooke tells him that what they have should be over now since she doesn’t want to go to Prom with someone who doesn’t want to be with her. Chase says he’s sorry, but she did promise him no more surprises.
Nathan stops by Lucas’ telling him that he’s the next stop on the Nathan Scott apology tour. Lucas tells him that he isn’t mad since he knows that Nathan was a bad guy back then. They talk about Dan and Karen going to Prom together, and Nathan says Dan’s changed.
At the river court, Skills tries to talk Mouth into going to Prom without Shelly. Mouth resists at first, saying that if he can’t go with the girl he fell for, he may as well not go at all.
Brooke is back at Rachel’s and venting to Rachel about her fight with Peyton. After Brooke is done venting, Rachel tells her that she got expelled and is leaving Tree Hill to be with her parents in the Bahamas, so she won’t be at Prom.
Lucas comes by Deb’s to talk to Haley. They talk about when it was just the two of them and how they always wanted to be one of the popular kids. Haley denies ever wanting to be. They talk about Peyton and Lucas says that he doesn’t understand why she’s so upset. Haley tells him that right now Peyton needs Lucas since she just found out that she was betrayed by people she loved in front of everyone.
Mouth visits Rachel when he hears that she was expelled. She tells him how she’s meeting her parents on vacation and Mouth asks her if she’s going to say goodbye to everyone first. Rachel recalls all of the horrible things that she’s done and tells Mouth that she won’t leave too many good memories behind when she’s gone, but Mouth tells her that he’ll have some. He breaks the news about he and Shelly not going to prom together and Rachel tells him she doesn’t know what she’s missing.
Brooke is at Peyton’s banging on her front door. Peyton opens the door and tackles her in the front yard. They fight on the ground before stopping to yell at each other. Brooke tells her that since she and Nathan had sex while he and Peyton were broken up, it meant nothing. Peyton tells her that she and Nathan were always breaking up and getting back together, so she should have known better. Brooke retorts that all her and Nathan’s relationship was was a bunch of one night stands strung together. Brooke asks Peyton why she even cares anymore. Peyton replies, “Why do I care? Brooke this has been one of the worst years of my life and I needed my best friend more than ever. And you cut me out because I was honest with you, and you were never ever honest with me. You made fun of my mom's death Brooke. You knew her, you cried with me when she died. And now you use her as a punch line for some joke to hurt me. It hurt. It did, but not anymore because you and me we're done. You're right, she's dead, and as far as I'm concerned so are you.”
Lucas stops by Peyton’s again and finds her lying in her bed. He starts talking to her, but she ignores him, then tells him that she wants to skip Prom altogether. Lucas tells her that he’s going to come back and pick her up in a little while and she’s going to be ready and looking beautiful. If not, Lucas tells her that he’ll have to go alone.
Nathan gives Haley a list, but not the list of everyone he’s slept with. He tells her it’s a list of everyone he’s been in love with, and she’s the only one. He says that the other list doesn’t matter. Haley tells him it’s sweet of him to make the list he did, but … Nathan cuts her off and hands her the list she wanted.
Rachel is finishing packing her things. Brooke thanks her for everything and Rachel mentions that Shelly dumped Mouth. The doorbell rings and it’s Rachel’s ride to the airport. Rachel thanks Brooke for being her friend, and Brooke does the same. As Rachel walks out, she turns back to give Brooke a goodbye hug.
Lucas tells Karen that he’s sorry about the hard time he gave her earlier and has a dress picked out for her. Lucas explains that he just doesn’t want to see her get hurt again, and she assures him that everything will be okay.
Nathan walks into Peyton’s room while she’s punching the dummy that her brother, Derek, gave to her. Peyton asks him why he had sex with Brooke, and Nathan tells him it was because he was drunk and a jerk back then. Peyton tells him that she’s not going to Prom, and Nathan tells her that she can’t do that to Lucas. Nathan goes on to say that back then he didn’t care about anybody but himself, but Peyton stayed with him because she cared – she’s a caring person and he knows that she couldn’t do that to Lucas because she cares. That’s who she is.
The doorbell rings and Brooke walks outside to find no one there. She looks down and finds a box. Inside is her Prom dress. She smiles as she takes it out of the box and goes inside.
At the river court, Mouth, Fergie, Junk, Skills and Bevin are drinking on the bleachers. Brooke walks across the court and asks Mouth to go to Prom with her. Mouth hesitates, but Skills tells him that you don’t hesitate when Brooke Davis asks you to Prom. Mouth agrees and they walk away together.
Haley is sitting in a chair holding Nathan’s list. Deb comes into the room and tells Haley that whatever Nathan did to upset Haley is because of her and Dan. With an alcoholic mother and controlling father, Nathan acted the way he did because of his parents. She tells Haley that the man is his today is all due to Haley. She thanks her for moving in to her home to help her recover.
Dan arrives at Karen’s to pick her up. He sits with Lucas and both Dan and Lucas are stunned when Karen walks into the room, ready to go to the Prom. As they leave, Lucas tells them, “have fun Mom… Dad”.
Nathan is sitting on the couch and Haley comes out of her room with the Prom dress on that Nathan bought her with his stripper night money. Nathan tells her she looks beautiful and how relieved he was to see her come out with the dress on. She tells him that she didn’t read the list, only the list written by the man she’s in love with. Haley shows him that she got her cast off. They kiss.
Brooke and Mouth walk into the Prom. Inside under the black light, Brooke looks down to find “WHORE” written on her dress. Mouth tells her she should step out of the light, but instead Brooke hugs Mouth, teary eyed, saying that Peyton still cares.
Lucas puts on his tux, ties his tie, and drives over to Peyton’s.
Brooke and Mouth send Rachel a picture message on her cell phone of them at Prom and a caption saying “missing you already”.
Peyton gets dressed for Prom and comes down the stairs in a white dress. The doorbell rings and Peyton opens the door. As she does so, Psycho Derek turns around, tells Peyton “hi”, and then swings his fist out to punch her.
