The Runaway Found - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Lucas is at Abby’s in order to find the truth behind Keith’s murder. He knocks on the door, but the woman that answers the door tells him no one named Abby lives there. Lucas walks away, but turns back just in time to see Abby peeking through one of the windows. Dan sits in his SUV watching Lucas walk away.

At Tree Hill High, Whitey is swarmed by reporters asking questions about the alleged point shaving. Whitey denies that his players would do so – they are the best players he’s had in his career. On the river court, Nathan tells Haley the truth behind what’s happening with the investigation and begins to wonder if he’ll be able to play basketball for Duke in the fall.

Peyton continues to have visions of Psycho Derek. After having a scary vision of him while taking a shower, Peyton decides to see him in prison in order to know for sure that he is locked up this time. At the prison, Psycho Derek tells Peyton that she led him on, which makes Peyton begin to doubt herself and wonder if she really did lead him on.

Chase bumps into Brooke at school and asks her if she okay following the attack. Brooke asks him why he’s not wearing his Clean Teen shirt, and he tells her that things change. Later, Brooke tells Peyton about her awkward encounter with Chase and how she still has feelings for him.

Nathan goes over to Dan’s to talk to him about what to do about the investigation. As Nathan walks in, Dan hides a gun that he was toying with before Nathan came in. Dan tells Nathan he needs to deny everything and the investigation will go away.

Lucas is at Abby’s house and waits until her mother leaves. As she does, Lucas walks up to the house and walks in through the unlocked front door. Abby is sitting in a chair listening to her iPod and when Lucas’ cell phone rings, Abby jumps out of her seat, startled. Lucas calms her down and asks her if she knows the truth about Keith’s murder. Abby doesn’t say a word. Lucas asks her if Jimmy shot Keith. Abby shakes her head “no”. Abby’s mother comes back home and angrily asks Lucas why he’s here. She proceeds to tell him that Abby hasn’t been right since the shooting. When she asks Abby if she’s her mother, Abby shakes her head “no”, and shakes her head “no” again when she asks if Abby is her name. Confused and wondering if Abby told him the truth, Lucas leaves.

Later, Haley drops by Lucas’ to talk to him about the investigation. Lucas tells him that once the investigators realize Lucas didn’t do anything, they’ll start investigating Nathan and easily find the truth from there. Haley asks him how bad it will be for Nathan, and Lucas tells her that he won’t go to jail, but he won’t be able to play basketball for Duke.

Lucas heads to Whitey’s to tell him that he was the one responsible for the points shaving and will be holding a press conference in the morning to tell the investigators and press that he was the one to blame. Whitey tells Lucas that Keith would be ashamed of what he did. Later, Whitey watches the tape of the game where the points shaving occurred and notices Nathan and Lucas signaling each other during the game.

Dan, aware that Abby is the one that knows the truth, goes to buy a gun and ammunition. As he handles the gun, Dan has a flashback to the shooting and accidentally aims it at a little girl, which makes him noticeably shaken.

Brooke and Peyton do some research on Psycho Derek before confronting him together at the prison. They uncover that Psycho Derek’s real name is Ian Banks and that he was the driver in a car accident that left his girlfriend, who looks similar to Peyton, dead. At the prison, Ian tells Peyton and Brooke that they’re both teases and how Peyton lead him on. Brooke defends Peyton and tells him about the information they uncovered. As they tell him that they know about the accident, Ian begins to break down and tells them about the accident. When Ian’s girlfriend died, her parents blamed him for the accident but the roads were slick and there was nothing he could do. As he begins to cry, Peyton tells him that his girlfriend forgives him, and she does too. Peyton tells him that this will be the last time he sees her, ever.

Abby argues with her mother that she’s done acting like she’s crazy and hiding from the truth. As Abby heads out the door, she runs into Dan, who’s holding a brown paper bag. Dan yells at Abby and her mother to sit down and tells them that he had to kill Keith. Keith took Karen, his true love. Abby’s mother insists that Abby is crazy and doesn’t know anything about the shooting, but Abby tells Dan that she does know the truth and she hopes that he burns in hell for what he’s done. Dan says he hopes so too and reaches into the brown bag. Abby and her mother brace themselves, thinking Dan will pull out a gun, but he instead pulls out a doll and hands it to Abby and leaves.

At Keith’s grave, Dan is drinking and accidentally drops his beer, which breaks and spills over the tombstone. Next, Dan unintentionally drops a lighter on the grave, with ignites the area around the grave.

Abby shows up at Lucas’ and tells him what happened during the shooting – it wasn’t Jimmy, it was Dan. Lucas is shocked, but Abby knows that Lucas knew he was the murderer all along. Lucas tells Abby that she needs to tell someone, and she tells him that she just did.
Nathan and Haley discuss what to do about the investigation. Haley confesses that she asked Lucas to take the fall in order for Nathan to still be able to play basketball at Duke next fall. Nathan decides he has to do the right thing, the thing that his son will be proud of.

The next morning, Nathan tells Whitey the truth, which Whitey already knew, then tells everyone during the press conference that he was the one. Nathan apologizes for betraying the game that he loves, and the teammates that were like, or are, brothers to him. He tells everyone he’s ready to face the consequences of his actions, and Haley holds his hand and stands by him as he gives his speech.

Brooke redecorates the apartment to make the bedroom look like Peyton’s room in order for Peyton to feel at home.

Dan goes to talk to Karen and tries to tell her the truth, but Karen misinterprets it as Dan being upset for the things he did to Keith and how Dan’s life has turned out. Dan asks Karen if she could ever feel the same way she once did, and they kiss. As they kiss, Lucas walks in.
