Gavin DeGraw previously made an appearance as himself in "You Gotta Go There to Come Back".

The song that Gavin DeGraw and Jamie sing at the beginning of the episode is the series' theme song, "I Don't Want To Be." The segments of the song that they sing are the exact segments that were used in the previous four seasons for the theme song. With the song being sung, this is the only season 5 episode that featured the theme song.

(Nathan wakes Lukas up)
Nathan: Holy crap.
Lucas: What?
Nathan: Have you seen your head?
Lucas: Not lately.
Nathan: You have a mohawk.

Nathan: The darkness doesn't have any answers, Luke.

Lucas: You look good.
Lindsey: You look hungover.
Lucas: Yeah, well the a girl I almost married started dating again and after that things just kind of went dark.

Haley: (to Nathan) The day you start thinking that love is overrated is the day that you're wrong.

What Comes After the Blues is the title of the debut album by Magnolia Electric Co.

The lyrics that Peyton paints on the rivercourt for Lucas are the lyrics to the first stanza of "Love Song" by The Cure.

Nathan: (to Lucas) Damn. You'd think somebody got thrown through a plate-glassed window.

Nathan is referencing his own accident which occurred in "I Forgot to Remember to Forget". In his accident, Nathan gets into a fight and is thrown through a plate glass window at a bar. Following his accident, he begins drinking frequently, similar to Lucas' current condition.
