If This Boat Is A Rockin' - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Bob shows up for a meeting with Adam, Gordon and Sarah. They have a new
shoe they spent three months developing, and now they're going to get
the testing results. Bob tries to deliver the news kindly, but Gordon
makes him cut to the bottom line. The concept is DOA.

Jasmine and Crosby check out a possible apartment for them. Jabbar will
be able to walk to school, and the neighbors have twin five year-old
boys. He's thinking the place is a bit expensive, since he still has
fees associated with his boat. Dock fees, maintenance, etc. Jasmine
didn't realize he was planning on keeping the boat, since they are
moving in together. Crosby says Jabbar loves the boat, but it makes no
sense to keep it.

Zeek, Max and Adam are at the store. Max is a tad bit hyper. He grabs
four bags of chips. Adam tells him they only need one. Zeek undermines
Max, and Max repeats him. Adam adjusts his stance from one bag to two.
Adam and Zeek chat about the shoe going DOA. Zeek thinks they should do
another focus group, but Adam says they cost $15,000 each. Max shows up
in the"8 items or less" lane and starts counting a stranger's items. The
guy has 17 items, that's 10 items too many. Max starts throwing the
items off the line. The guy starts calling Max on it, and Adam is trying
to handle the situation. But he's steamed too. He tells Max to let it
go, because some people think the rules don't apply to them. The jerk
tells Adam to mind his business. Zeek starts getting angry, so Adam
redirects him to take Max to get more chips and pretzels. As they leave
together, the guy starts muttering about Adam being a jackass. When Adam
calls him on it, the guy says he needs to train Max better. He feels
sorry for him, having Max as a son. He calls Max a retard, and Adam
punches him. He punches him so hard, that the guy hits the floor. Zeek
looks concerned when he sees the guy on the floor. Adam looks like he's
waiting for the guy to stand up so they can fight some more.

When the guys get back from the grocery store, Kristina is on the phone,
taking down a recipe. She picks up on the tension and asks if everything
is okay, and Adam says yes. She thinks Max must have had a tantrum at
the store, but Adam snaps at her. Nothing happened, he said nothing
happened and nothing happened. He goes to take a shower.

Haddie is at her volunteering job, and she's very excited about how she
feels when she works there. Her boss invites her to come by after
school, and she'd love to, but she's the President of the Junior Class
so she has to go to a pep rally.

Crosby and Jabbar are having a little BBQ on the boat. They use their
hot dogs to say "cheers". He breaks the news about the boat sale to
Jabbar, who is somewhat saddened. He asks if they can move, and keep the
boat, too. Crosby tells him they can't really afford it, and they can't
have everything. Jabbar says but Crosby is boat guy. This is where he
lives. He's a boat guy. He's lived on a boat ever since Jabbar met him.
Jabbar tells Crosby "This boat is you."

Gordon tells Sarah that her shoe idea was a great concept, ahead of it's
time. She, Gordon and Adam have to slip away quietly for the afternoon.
Every time a shoe tests, he rents a limo and stocks it with champagne.
If the shoe succeeds, they celebrate. If it fails, they drink themselves
into a business-like stupor. She is surprised to hear that Adam does
that. Gordon says yes, every time. Adam does that. And since the clicker
shoe was her concept, she's going along for the ride this time. She says
it's 3:30, so he reminds her that he's the boss, and they set off to get
Adam. He takes a pass, he just wants to stay in his office and mourn in
his own "drowning in work" fashion.

Haddie skips out of the pep rally so she can go help the homeless people
move. Amber follows her out. She was only there for Haddie, and now
Haddie is not there. She wants to tag along, but Haddie says no. Amber
realizes there's gotta be a guy involved.

When she arrives, Haddie lies to Alex about the pep rally, telling him
it got postponed. The kids leap happily into his arms while Haddie looks
on.

Zeek fills Camille in on Adam punching the guy at the store. She says
Adam doesn't punch people. Zeek punches people. Camille thinks Zeek
should talk to him, and he tells her he tried, but Adam refused.

Alex joins Haddie on the back of the moving truck. While he slams down
some OJ, she goes on about how this is the day that this family's life
changed. She thinks this is what matters, not stuff like school and
dances and grades. Alex tells her to keep doing what she's doing. Good
grades are important. He figures she's pulling straight A's in school.
Oh, good. She's super-predictable. He teases her because she remembers
her first B. Not just her first B, but her one-and-only B. He tells her
today matters. She kisses him, but after a moment he pulls away, telling
her it's not a good idea. She says she understands, it's okay - and she
leaves.

When she gets home, Kristina is mad because she tried calling her three
times and had no luck reaching her. Haddie agrees she should have
called, and heads upstairs. Adam leaves for Crosby's boat, and Sarah and
Gordon are out riding around in the limo. Things take a turn back to
business when he shows her his sketchings. Retractable golf shoes. The
spikes retract so you can finish playing and go on with your day,
without having to change shoes. He shows her another pair that converts
from regular shoes to flip-flops. She knows he is showing her these
things so that she won't feel bad about how badly her shoe tanked in
testing. She says it's very sweet, and they kiss.

Joel tells Jasmine she is not marrying one Braverman. She's marrying all
of them. She will have Bravermanitis and it will come eat her brain
away. Crosby tells Julia that Jasmine wants him to sell the boat. She
agrees with Jasmine. He says he came of age on that boat. He's been in a
relationship with the boat for a long time. And Jabbar likes it. Julia
points out that Jabbar is only six. Crosby says that he's a boat guy.
The boat is part of him, and Jabbar agrees. Julia lets Crosby know that
he's a grown-up now, and he needs to sell the boat.

Adam is packing up the boat when Zeek approaches, holding out a beer. He
doesn't want to talk about what happened the other night, but Zeek
presses the issue. Adam talks a bit, but nothing major or specific. Zeek
tells him that for as long as he can remember, Adam has maintained
control. Zeek admired him for it, and he still does. Adam said he had to
do it, to balance out Zeek. Zeek was so explosive. He even yelled at a
stranger once. He remembers a lot of times that Zeek flipped out, and
now Adam is the angry guy. He's angry that Gordon has promised him for
15 years that he'd give him part-ownership of the company. He's angry
that Sarah can't just go find a job, he has to find one for her. He's
angry that he can't do more for Max. He's pissed off that Max has
Aspergers. He's even angry that Zeek admires him, because what he's
doing is all he can do, and that's nothing. He can't do anything about
any of this. He can't save the jobs of the people he was forced to let
go. He can't make Max better. He can't stop some asshole in the
supermarket from calling Max a retard. So what good does it do him to
control his feelings. And honestly? it felt REALLY good to hit that guy.
It felt good NOT to be in control.

Zeke doesn't say a word the whole time Adam vents. He finally tells Adam
he has his back.

Sarah wakes up in the back of the limo, next to the ocean. It's 4:30
a.m., and she's not home. Drew wakes Amber up to report that very thing.
Sarah never came home last night. He's a bit panicky. He called her,
she's not returning his calls. They go to wake up Camille and Zeek.

Sarah gets home, goes in the guest house, changes and pretends she was
there the whole time. She finds everybody waiting for her. Zeek calls
her on it. Amber tells her she should have texted them. She's mad
because Drew was so scared. Sarah apologizes again, and Camille says
she's home now.

Crosby makes snarky remarks because Joel didn't assemble the last new
piece of furniture. Jasmine points out that he did assemble all the
rest. He refers to Joel as Julia's husband, and then owns that he's
petulant with everybody over the boat. He thinks they should acknowledge
it, how much it meant to him and what a big part of his life it was for
so long. It's like Jabbar is the only one that gets how he feels. He
just wants somebody to honor the boat.

Sarah goes to try to talk to Adam about what happened last night, but he
already knows, what with mom and dad calling him looking for her this
morning, and all. Adam doesn't want to talk about it. He's very angry
that Sarah and Gordon went out and got plastered, after he had to fire
seven people. Crosby walks in while they are busy talking over each
other. They claim nothing is going on, but he can see that they are
fighting. He likes it. He will watch. They turn the conversation to
him, so he tells them that he's having a "Farewell to the Boat" party,
and they are both invited. Tonight? They need more notice. Crosby gets a
bit irate, and of course they're going to be there, now that they
understand how important it is to him. When Crosby leaves, Adam sends
Sarah back to work.

Haddie arrives to apologize to Alex for kissing him. He closes the door
and tells her that he really likes her, but he's an alcoholic who has
only been in recovery for five months. He really does like her. He's
attracted to her. She's amazing. But now's not good. She asks if he
dropped out of school because of drinking, and he says yes. Is he going
to meetings? Yes. Has a sponsor, works the program. He's taking care of
business. Haddie's a little sad, but she pops back with some humor about
writing in her journal. He gets a diary entry. This makes him happy.

The Bravermans are all over at the boat. Julia admits that she and Joel
once used it for a rendezvous. Crosby is shocked. Shocked!! Did Adam
ever use it? Don't be ridiculous, Adam responds; of course he has. They
referred to it as the Love Boat. Crosby tells them he's kind of scared
he's gonna screw up this good thing he's got going with Jasmine and
Jabbar. Adam says his fear is a good sign. Julia tells him he's
different. Crosby asks them to help him stay on the straight and narrow,
and they agree. They cheer as he puts out the "For Sale" sign. He tears
up a teensy bit.

Sarah announces she's home, on time, and only had one beer. When the
kids don't respond, she gets that she's joking too soon. They don't want
to talk about it. She tells Camille it's a tough room, and asks if she
ever gave her that much grief. Camille says no, of course not, because
she never screwed up. Sarah remembers her; she's the world's only
perfect mother. Camille asks what's the story with Gordon. Sarah plays
him up, and ends by saying that he's sweet. Camille says of course he's
sweet, that's what Sarah deserves.

Kristina is brushing her teeth when Adam gets home. He finally tells her
what happened at the store. She says she's glad Adam hit him, then asks
why he didn't tell her. He says he was embarrassed. He's tired of being
angry. The scary part is that it felt great. And maybe he's more like
his dad than he's been willing to admit. Kristina says he's nothing like
his dad. But he needs to be able to tell her anything, always. She wants
to help him get rid of the stress. Sex seems like an excellent idea. He
teases her unmercifully with his impression of Zeek before they kiss.

Crosby is noodling around on the piano when Jasmine arrives. She brings
a bottle of bubbly to Honor the Boat. She wants to give it a proper send
off, so she has some lovely lingerie on under he coat. Crosby is finally
happy.
