Taking The Leap - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Julia's stick says she's not pregnant. Joel asks, and she says no. He
thinks she may be too focused on this. She wants Joel to get tested, so
she set an appointment. Sydney is confused, and thinks they're getting a
fish. Maybe even an aquarium.

Kristina tells Adam that Max's school wants them to come in today for a
teacher conference. She's very apprehensive, because last time this
happened, it was very bad.

Amber asks Sarah for feedback, because she doesn't know what to wear.
She feels really out of her element. Sarah is very excited. Amber thinks
Sarah is putting too much pressure on her. Zeek took Sarah's play in the
bathroom with him. He loved it. Amber didn't know about the play, and
wants to know if she's in it. Sarah says the whole thing is about her.

Crosby and Jasmine speak politely for the first time in a long time.
They're at Jabbar's school, and he's star of the week. It's wonderful.
This means his mom and dad get to come to his class and talk about his
family. They can come, right? Jasmine says of course!

Kristina asks Max how school is going. He's uncomfortable because they
never go on walks together. He has to pee right this very instant.
Kristina brings him to the Lessing house so he won't pee on the nearest
lawn. Suze tries really hard not to let him in, claiming the guest
bathroom is being remodeled, but Max is frantic. He greets Gabby on his
way to the bathroom. Gabby. Did he just say Gabby? Gabby is treating Noel?

Kristina dumps everything on Gabby, about her and Crosby, and the
meeting and school, and her fear that Max is going to be kicked out.
Gabby asks what happened, and she doesn't know, because Max won't tell
her. Before they leave, Kristina mutters that she hopes Crosby was worth
it, because he's not the only one she screwed, here. See you around.

Amber arrives at Julia's and thanks her for the job. It's good
experience, will help out with money for college, and it will look good
on her resume. Amber is introduced to Gary, she's going to be a runner,
starting here today. He drops off Julia's keys.

Julia takes a call from Joel on speaker phone, where he announces he
can't masturbate into a cup. Julia returns the favor by announcing that
he's on speaker phone, and Amber is here. They exchange "heys". Amber
leaves so they can have a moment, and Julia picks up the handset. He
hates it. Does she want him to help? Phone sex? Sure. Except she doesn't
know how, and ends the call.

Max's academic performance is what's up for discussion. He's doing
remarkably well, particularly in math and science. They want to let him
know they're on top of, keeping him challenged, so it doesn't become an
issue going forward. Adam and Kristina are stunned, but happy. They
think Kristina and Adam might want to consider mainstreaming him.

Amber gets home from work. Lots of filing and busy work, so her feet are
killing her. Sarah's waiting in the kitchen in hover mode, because the
safety school wrote Amber. "I deeply regret." But if they don't want
her, why would Berkley? Amber tells Sarah to stop with all the pressure.
She views support as pressure.

Crosby and Jabbar go through the family photos, picking which ones are
best for the star pupil.

Zeek is telling extraordinary Sarah tales to an old friend. Gilliam T.
Blount and Zeek served in the war together, and he's a theater producer.
He's going to read Sarah's play. She's not ready, but Gilliam says
everybody says that. If she wants to be a writer, then she needs to let
go of her fear of hurting her family.

Kristina and Adam struggle with mainstreaming. Adam thinks he can handle
it, but Kristina disagrees. She doesn't want to rock the boat. They'll
talk about it more later.

Amber gets a voice mail from Carly. She spoke to the Dean of Admissions
at Berkeley and wants a call back. She's about to call back, when Gary
jokes that if she's ordering pizza, he likes mushroom. He invited her to
join them for happy hour. She asks for a rain check, and he says he'll
hold her to it.

Zeek is very protective of Gill as he escorts him out to his car. He
tells Sarah to check him out on the worldwide web, and please don't
judge him. She says she won't if he doesn't, and they agree. She has a
little difficulty letting go of her work. She asks Zeek about the oddity
Gill referenced, and he says the man was missing for 10 years.

Jasmine and Jabbar go over pictures some more. He makes it clear that
Cosby was talking about her a lot, and only in a good light. She would
like to add some stuff just about Jasmine and Jabbar. Like when they
make s'mores. Jabbar asks when Crosby's boat is going to be fixed. He
wants him to come home. He misses him. Amber gets home and makes her
call. She didn't get in. She won't get her letter until the end of the
week. Carly tells her she's terrific, and she'll have many
opportunities. Amber hangs up and cries.

Joel gets a call from the clinic. His fish are healthy. Syd is still
sure they're getting an aquarium. Joel waves her out so he can call Julia.

Sarah and Zeek go over the web. He was great in the 70's, then he
started slipping, and he's been missing since 2000. Zeek feels he's
going to make a comeback by producing Sarah's play. Zeek wants to play
her dad on Broadway.

Gary sees Amber, and she starts to just say hey, but then she asks to
take him up on the rain check.

Crosby raids Camille's photo stash, because he needs some good memories
for the celebration of Jabbar. Sarah asks if he's hoping this will work
to win Jasmine back. He says yes, because he doesn't know what else to
do. Sarah believes it is definitely going to work, and helps him find
some good ones.

Adam arrives home. Kristina is unamused because she got a call from the
Admissions Director at Sycamore Charter, wanting to set up an
appointment for enrolling Max. Does Adam know anything about that? Yes.
How could he doe that without finishing his discussion with her. There's
a time crunch involved, and Kristina doesn't want to do this. Adam
really, really disagrees. She thinks he's trying to ignore Max's issues.
Adam knows it's a risk, and Kristina says it's a huge risk. But he
really doesn't want to make a decision based on fear. Kristina says
she's not afraid, and Adam says he is, too. Kristina won't budge.

Jasmine and Crosby are with Jabbar at his school, and the kids ask
questions. One asks how Crosby and Jasmine met, and Crosby declares he
was riding his trusty steed, when yonder he spied a beautiful princess.
All the kids giggle and say "nooo." So he tells the truth about being at
a wedding where Jasmine's heel was stuck in the mud, and when she looked
up at him, his heart just stopped because she was the most beautiful
woman he'd ever seen in his life. His brain took a little while to catch
up, because he's slow like that, but his heart knew right then that she
was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. There's an
awkward pause, and Jabbar announces "The End!"

Amber's supervisor can't find her, so she goes to Julia who marches down
to the parking garage and confronts Gary. Amber is chair dancing in a
car, and Julia opens the door to find out what's going on. Amber is
high. Amber is high in Julia's boss' car. She's freaking out. Amber
tells her about Berkeley. She pours it all out and Julia is really
sorry, but Amber needs to talk to Sarah. Amber thinks Sarah will be so
mad at her, but Julia knows better. Amber will feel better once she
tells her.

Gill tells Sarah there's genius hidden in her screenplay, struggling to
get out. She can't tell if he likes it. He gets more specific. There's
some really, really silly stuff that surrounds some brilliant
observations about her family. For instance, Barry (Zeek's character)
gives a speech that Sarah loves, but Gill hates. She says he's a simple
man, speaking from the heart. Gill says there's no such thing as a
simple man. Everybody is complex. Gill tells Amber she's that dark,
shadowy little dark guy. Yes. That's her. She couldn't have said it
better herself. He got her. Sarah tries telling Amber that's not what
she said. Amber leaves.

Gabby comes by to talk to Kristina. She misses Max, and wants to know
how the meeting went. Kristina tells her the meeting went very well, and
she's very happy. They're thinking about mainstreaming Max, and Gabby
thinks that's great. Kristina invites her in for coffee and a seat.
Gabby asks which school, and Kristina says Sycamore. She explains about
her worries and concerns. She's afraid he'll get bullied. She doesn't
want to be the mom who constantly has to explain why her son is
different. She admits that it's possible Adam is right.

Gabby tells her it's normal that she's having a hard time with it. Also,
she should know that Max's awareness of his autism is a much bigger deal
to her than it is to him. She should also be aware that the only
uncertain variable in all this is his behavior, and that can be
supported. In her estimation, Max is ready. Kristina asks the big
question. If Max were hers, what would she do. She hates the question,
but she'd do it. She thinks he's ready, so she would do it.

Kristina apologizes for her behavior at the Lessings, and Gabby
apologizes again. She's lost a lot of sleep over what she did. She let
Kristina down, she let Max down. Kristina says it's okay, and they hug.

Adam gets home from work. Max finished his homework an hour ago, so he
is free to watch television. Kristina tells him about Gabby, and that
she agrees with Adam. For next year. For sure? Adam doesn't want to move
forward until she's 100%. She agrees. Max watches Cash Cab and gets all
the answers right.

Jasmine shows up at the boat and tells Crosby his stories were
beautiful, and the photos were cute. For awhile she was thinking, yeah.
That's what it could be like, the three of them as a family. Crosby
interjects that they are a family. But then she remembered that he slept
with another woman while they were engaged. He apologizes and owns his
shame. He swears he will do anything to get her to forgive him, he
swears. She says she's not ready to forgive him and doesn't know if she
ever will be. She thinks she needs to move on. Sorry. She walks out.

Julia tells Joel that she needs to tell him something. She doesn't have
cancer, but. She does have Intrauterine scarring, and it will be very
difficult to get pregnant. She bursts into tears, and Joel holds her and
cries with her.
