It Is What It Is - Recap

The scene opens with Crosby and Lily hanging out at The Luncheonette. Crosby says that he wants to see Lily perform. She says that she is going to play in a concert at Golden Gate Park on Sunday and that he can hear her then. However, Crosby says that he has Jabbar that day and asks if he can come as well. Lily says that is fine. As they are about to kiss, Jasmine shows up with Jabbar. Meanwhile, Drew comes home and finds Sarah in the kitchen. She is trying to write a new play. Sarah attempts to talk to Drew, but he isn’t interested. He says that he is going over to Amy’s. He tells her that Amy’s parents are going to take him to visit the University of California at Davis this Saturday. Sarah is shocked at the sudden announcement and she says that she didn’t know that Drew was even interested in a particular college. She offers to set a tour up, but Drew says that it is not a big deal and goes off to meet up with Amy. Kristina is in the kitchen making pancakes for dinner. Haddie comes into the kitchen and says that something is wrong. She reveals that she got accepted at Cornell.

Max comes in ready to squash Haddie’s happiness and Adam asks how they are going to afford this. Meanwhile, Camille waits in the hall as Zeek gets an exam. They go to Dr. Walsh’s office to get the results and he says that Zeek has atrial fibrillation. Confused, they ask for more details. The doctor says that it is an abnormal heart rhythm and is common for men Zeek’s age. He says that it is not life threatening, but it could lead to worse things in the future. Zeek is told that he is going to have to change his diet and to exercise. If the condition intensifies, then there is a surgery that they can do. Kristina wakes up the next day and Adam is awake. He is starring at Nora, their baby. He says that he can’t sleep because he was looking at the amount of money that they are going to have to pay for tuition to Cornell. It is $60,000 a year. He says that is what has been keeping him awake. He says that it is not just the tuition, but also they are going to have to pay for the plane tickets out to Cornell and everything that is going to have to come with it.

Later, Joel finds that Julia woke up early and is building a crib. Zoe calls and Julia closes the door on Joel so that Zoe doesn’t know about the crib and that she won’t get stressed out. Julia says that she signed them up for birthing classes and says that they are going start next week. However, Zoe doesn’t want to do it. She says that it is not needed. Julia says that the hospital that they are going to requires that she take the classes before giving birth in their hospital. Meanwhile, Bob Little is stressing about the fundraising event that is coming up that Kristina set up at Bob Wormely’s home for Sunday. He sees Amber and turns on the “charm” and gets her to say that she will be there as well. Camille goes to the pharmacy and picks up Zeek’s medicine. She got him a pill box as well to help him remember what and when to take it. She also picks him up pamphlets on the condition to be fully aware what is going on. Zeek tells her not to tell anyone about the condition that he has. She agrees. Crosby drops Jabbar off at Jasmine’s place and brings up Lily. Jasmine says that she saw them kissing before. Jabbar didn’t see anything though. She says that she knows that he is going to hook-up with other girls, but says that it can’t happen. Crosby agrees with her. He says that Lily isn’t “just a hook-up”. He says that he wanted to take Jabbar with him to Lily’s concert. Jasmine says that she was going to get tickets too. Crosby says that he will ask Lily.

Sarah goes over to Amy’s house and says that Drew forgot his phone. She meets Amy’s parents and thanks them. It is clear that Drew is not happy about it. They extend an invitation to Sarah to go to the UC Davis expedition and she agrees. Meanwhile, Haddie goes online to check out Cornell when her mom and dad come in. They tell her that they are going to calculate to see if she can go there, but tell her that they would like her to keep her options open. Adam sees Haddie get sad as he tells of the issues that they are having right now. Haddie says that she understands, but it is clear that she is not happy about this decision at all and would rather not have heard it. The next day, Camille and Sarah are home when Zeek comes up in a new Airstream. Sarah is more surprised at Camille’s surprise of Zeek buying such an expensive item. Julia builds more and more furniture for the nursery and Zoe stops by to see how things are going. Julia says that she has been hiding her things from her to avoid any insensitive feelings.

Meanwhile, Adam finds Crosby in the booth listening to music Lily has recorded. He admits to Adam that he is into Lily and that Jasmine is going to be at the concert Sunday. Adam says that is very stupid of him to allow that to happen. Later, Kristina finds Haddie looking up alternatives to Cornell. She talks to her and says that she knows that it is unfair, but the finances shouldn’t be the issue. Haddie says that that is not it. She says that Max and his needs are why she can’t go to Cornell. Sara, Drew and Amy go along with Amy’s parents to the campus at UC Davis. Sarah is shocked to see Drew and Amy holding hands and is more surprised when she finds out that Drew’s major is Biology. Meanwhile, Amber goes to Bob’s office and gives him the list of everyone who is attending the fundraiser. He thanks her for the list and says that if they are going to get anything from this, they are going to have to convince the Country Club members. Amber realizes that she and Bob have something in common. She also realizes that Bob is not an Ivy League School graduate. Back at Julia’s, Zoe wants to give Julia a watch to give to the baby. She says that it was her grandfather’s and it would mean a lot to her. Back at the college campus, Sarah asks Drew about his interest in Biology. He tries to dodge the question and Sarah says that she wants to be “in the loop” of things.

Kristina goes into the bedroom with Adam and talks about sending Haddie to Cornell. Adam says that there are plenty of schools that are closer and costs less. He says that she needs to look at this more logically and that Haddie won’t have any college loans if she chose a cheaper college. She tells him that they have to tell Haddie now. Zeek goes to Sarah’s and she says that Drew doesn’t care about her. Zeek says that she did a good job and that she gave Drew the tools that he needs to make it. He says that she has to enjoy that he is doing it so well without her. Meanwhile, Crosby, Lily, Dr. Joe, Jasmine and Jabbar all meet up in the park. Lily makes a good impression and compliments Jasmine’s outfit. She tells Jabbar that she will signal him when the good part is coming. They get in and hear Lily perform. They are surprised and Jasmine is jealous. The Wormely Fundraiser has begun and Kristina and Bob are working. Amber is doing backup to them. Bob Wormely is far too drunk to introduce Bob and Kristina steps in. Bob is impressed with her and learns that Amber’s wheelhouse is handling drunk men.

Adam goes into Haddie’s room and is about to tell her the bad news. However, he can’t bring himself to do it and says that Kristina and he talked it over and says that they want to do what is best and that they will make sure that she gets to go to Cornell. The next day, Julia and Zoe go into birthing class and Mrs. Chopra, the instructor comes in. Zoe fights the emotion of it all and can’t hold it. She runs out of the room. Julia asks what is wrong and Zoe admits that it hurts more then she thought that it was going to be. Meanwhile, the fundraiser is over and a success. Kristina leaves Amber to clean up and says that she did a great job. Zeek takes Camille outside on his new Airstream. He can see that she is worried when she sees the bottle of champagne. However, she says that she is alright. He says that he is going to live life to the fullest and says that they can do what they want. Later that evening, Bob thanks Amber for doing a great job. He shakes her hand, but doesn’t let go. It is clear that he wants more then a handshake, but Amber declines his offer and leaves. The episode ends.
