Next Episode -->
In San Francisco, Janet Cooper watches her daughter Megan play in the park. The detective she's hired, Edick, arrives and warns her that he's been unable to find her husband yet. Janet wonders if her husband is paying off the detective. When she turns around, she realizes that Megan has disappeared. Janet catches a glimpse of her being lead away and runs off after her... and men grab her, drug her, and haul her away. Back on the playground, Megan looks for her mother.

Janet wakes up and finds herself in a hotel room. She yells for Megan and runs to the door, only to discover that it's locked. The windows are sealed and there are security cameras mounted in the ceiling. She begs the person watching to tell her if her daughter is okay but gets no response. Next, Janet rips apart the bed stand and uses a piece of metal to try and get the lock open without success.

A man on the other side of the door calls out for her, and then breaks down the door. Janet uses a chair to fend him off, and the man introduces himself as Joe. He says there was a key in his Bible, and shows her that there was one in her Bible as well. Joe wonders if she owes anyone money, and says he has no idea why he was there. The last thing he remembers, he was in New York. When Joe notices that Janet's hand is bleeding, he pulls out the splinter she got stuck in her hand. They decide to look for the others, although Janet wonders if it's the people who captured them. Joe says they don’t have a choice and goes out into the hallway. Janet follows after him.

The other room doors are locked and initially, no one responds. One door shakes as the person on the other side yells for help. Joe and Janet tell him how to find the key, and the man emerges. He introduces himself as Charlie Morse, an investor. Another door opens and a woman in a bathrobe, Moira Doherty, emerges. As they focus on her, a soldier, Sergeant Graham McNair, bursts out of a nearby door and grabs Joe, who manages to calm him down and explain that they're all hostages. Another door emerges and an attractive woman, Tori Fairchild, emerges, still partially drunk.

McNair tries to get the exit door open, but Joe warns that it's magnetically sealed. They try the elevator but it doesn't work. Charlie starts to panic and McNair calms him down. The investor warns that his wife has emotional problems and could hurt herself if he isn't there for her. Joe spots a smoke alarm and suggests they set it off so they can escape. Joe and McNair break down some furniture and use sticks to start a fire.

In San Francisco, reporter Mark Renbe is working a story and explains to his editor, Kat, that he's running a story on Janet's abduction. He has video from the park and admits it's intriguing. Kat agrees to let him handle the story once he finishes his current assignment.

Charlie is unable to see anything out the windows. He talks to the woman in the bathrobe, Moira, who claims she doesn't remember anything. He asks her what she's worth, and Moira says she works as a councilor and is worth maybe $40,000. Charlie interrogates the others, and Joe prefers not to say why someone might want him. He warns that any of them could be among the ones who abducted them, and there are other reasons than money to abduct someone.

Joe gets the fire going and holds a flame up to the smoke alarm. It doesn't go off, but the elevator starts up and comes to their floor. The door opens but the car is empty. Everyone gets in and they descend to the lobby. The lobby is equally empty but the doors are unlocked. They go outside and find an idyllic small town... that appears completely uninhabited. They try the phones in the sheriff's office but they're all dead. The security cameras are everywhere. Joe suggests that they walk out before the sun sets. They notice an empty gun rack... and a man emerges and points a rifle at them.

The man orders them all down on the floor, and then demands to know who is in charge. Joe explains that they thought he was in charge, but the man doesn't believe them. Charlie refuses to get down, insisting he has nothing to lose. Joe and McNair signal each other and then attack the man, disarming him. Charlie demands answers and the man says that he's Bill Blackham, a car salesman. The last thing he remembers was being pulled over by the police.

Joe thinks they should leave, but McNair says that he plans to keep the gun and they should recon after dark. Joe tells him to watch the others and he'll go for help. Janet goes with him and Moira begs her to stay, but Janet insists she needs to find her daughter.

As the two of them walk down the street, Janet wonders if Joe was in the military, noting that he knew how to work with McNair. However, he refuses to say what line of work he's in. Joe tries to assure her that her daughter will be okay, and Janet wonders who he has for him at home. As they talk, Joe comes to the edge of town and passes out. When Janet runs to him, she passes out as well. Charlie and McNair approach them and McNair tells the investor to stay behind. He goes in on his own, picks up Janet, and starts to carry her away, but then collapses. The other four duck into a nearby building.

Mark talks to Janet's mother, Eleanor, who finally admits that she wasn't on speaking terms with her daughter and vice versa. Eleanor never met Janet's husband, and Janet claimed she was an abusive mother. Megan runs in and shows Eleanor a doll she found in the bedroom, and Eleanor gives it to her. Eleanor tries to reassure her that Janet will be back soon, and sends her to play. She then admits that she's had a second chance to be a good parent. Mark thanks her and says Janet should turn up soon, and Eleanor says it should end well. As Mark leaves, he's unaware that the room is under surveillance.

Night falls in the town and McNair, Joe, and Janet are still unconscious on the streets. The others return to the hotel, but spot a van driving by outside. They watch as several Asian men get out and haul out Janet, McNair, and Joe. They give Charlie the rifle from the sheriff's office and go into a nearby building without answering any questions. Moira tells Joe to get up and undress so they can check him for injection marks. She finds a scar on his leg and locates similar marks on the other two. Further, the other four have marks as well and Moira explains that their biometric implants that can be operated by remote. When they walk past a certain point, the implant releases a tranquilizer. Moira warns that the implants are in too deep for them to survive their removal.

One of the Asians, Tom, comes out. He speaks English and invites them in to a nearby diner. Charlie and Bill grab him and demand answers, and threaten Bill and the rest of the staff. Bill insists they have nothing to do with their abduction, and insists they're only there to make food. McNair finally grabs the gun from Bill and Joe ushers him away. Tom has them sit down and the staff serves them dinner. After a few minutes of shocked silence, McNair tries the food and suffers no ill effects. The others join in but Janet is hesitant. She wonders if her daughter was abducted as well and is being kept somewhere else.

After they're done eating, Tom comes in and serves them fortune cookies. Tori spins the Lazy Susan and they each take a cookie, seemingly at random. Charlie's says that his wife is waiting for him. Joe's says his judgment is off. Tori says she'll receive a prize. Bill says if he helps someone else, he'll help himself. McNair's is in Chinese. Moira's has numbers. Janet claims that hers has an Irish proverb.

The seven abductees return to the hotel and find the night manager waiting for them. He explains that he manages the hotel, and that he started working the previous night. The night manager claims they were already checked in when he started, and shows them the register. Their names are on it and each one checked in at 6. Charlie threatens the night manager unless he provides answers. The night manager agrees to help, but admits that he doesn't know where they are. He explains that a man called to tell him that he had a job. He went to bed, and found himself in the town the next day. When they wonder if he found it unusual, the night manager says that he's used to it. Meanwhile, Janet secretly rereads her fortune cookie message, "Kill your neighbor and you'll go free."
