Janet is at the gazebo at the town square when she spots an Italian Honeybee. As Joe comes out, Janet captures it and explains to him that it normally wouldn't be outside when it is so cold. When she lets the captive bee go free, Joe steps on it and explains that bee stings are lethal to him.
Charlie finds Bill checking the edges of the pain field, and using Chinese food to lure in animals to test it. Bill taunts Charlie about murdering his wife and Charlie walks away.
At the hotel, Moira is teaching Graham sign language. Bill and Charlie come in as Janet and Joe arrive, and Bill drops more hints about Charlie having a secret. Charlie starts to attack Bill, but the Night Manager rings the bell and calls them over. Once they have gathered, he gives them a telegram that states one of the guests will be checking out soon. The Night Manager tells them to prepare and goes off-duty.
The prisoners wonder about the term "checking out," and Janet suggests they give each other their family phone numbers. Everyone agrees except Bill, and Joe worries that it's some kind of trick.
In San Francisco, Renbe notices that men in blue jumpsuits seem to be following him. He goes to the park and discovers that the surveillance camera is missing. A man with an Irish accent calls him on his cellphone and tells him that he should forget Janet if he values his life.
An old taxi drives into the town, passing through the pain field without any ill effect. The driver yells at them in Arabic and says Janet's name. Graham translates and learns that the man wants Janet to choose a second passenger. Victoria insists she should go, Graham thinks it's a trap, and Joe thinks it's a setup. She invites Joe, who agrees to go. They get in the taxi and leave town.
Victoria goes back to her hotel room and yells at the cameras, demanding answers from her father, Franklin. She figures he's behind the entire thing, and remembers the party where she got drunk and accused him of murdering his wife. Victoria then puts on a red dress and makeup and goes downstairs to flirt with the Night Manager. He warns her that he can't help her escape and walks behind the desk, and Victoria gives him a message to deliver to her father, promising that she'll be good.
The taxi driver pulls over when the taxi has a flat. He offers coconuts to Joe and Janet and then starts to change the tire.
As Renbe walks through the streets, he notices more men in blue jumpsuits. His cellphone rings: it's Edick, who is waiting for him ahead. The detective demands his files backs, and warns that he has surveillance footage of Renbe breaking into his office, and gave it to Gomez. Renbe asks him about the man with the Irish accent and the men in blue, but Edick says he's paranoid and the men in blue are maintenance workers.
Janet and Joe notice a black semi approaching them. When it doesn't stop, they get out of the way as it smashes through the taxi, destroying it. There's no sign of the driver, and they have no choice but to start walking.
At the hotel, Bill is enjoying a drink in the lobby when a crying Victoria comes over and invites him up to her room. She tells him that she's going home, and Bill turns down her offer.
As Joe and Janet follow the road, Janet asks him how committed he is. He assures her that he'll do whatever it takes.
That night, Bill offers Charlie cognac and insists on calling him "Chuck." Bill then lays out a proposal to build a franchise of outdoor private parks. Charlie doesn't believe he's serious and walks away.
Joe and Janet get off the road and get lost in the dark.
Victoria goes out to the gazebo and starts drinking. Graham comes out and she tells him that her father became ambassador by using his wife and daughter to offer sexual favors to his clients. Her mother drowned and Franklin was the only witness. He claimed it was an accident but Victoria doesn't believe it. Graham tells her not to let her father destroy her, and says he's seen children heal their hearts after losing their families in the war. Victoria doesn't think she can be happy and walks away, yelling at the cameras and asking Franklin to send her home.
Charlie is soaking his feet in his tub when Bill comes in and renews their conversation. When Charlie refuses to hear him out, Bill threatens to tell everyone what Charlie did to his wife. He has a list of demands, but Charlie walks out rather than listen.
Joe and Janet are close to freezing when they find a cabin with food and alcohol. They share a toast to freedom and then go out on the porch and talk about what they're going to do when they get back. Joe says that he doesn't make plans, and Janet asks him to come to San Francisco to meet Megan. They look up at the sky and Janet identifies the constellations.
The next morning, Joe and Janet are sleeping separately on the same bed as bees fill the room. Joe wakes up and finds one on his face, and whispers to Janet to wake up. She blows the bee off his face and explains that it's their winter cluster. The warmth of the sunlight woke them up. Janet carefully gets Joe to walk out of the room without disturbing the insects.
Renbe goes to see Lt. Gomez, who asks why he was in Edick's office. Gomez has a still photo from the park camera that reveals Renbe was watching Janet and Megan.
Janet and Joe get to the road and pick a direction at random to follow. The black truck tries to run them over and they jump off the side of the road. It stops for a moment and then drives away.
Renbe comes in and helps Kat comes up with a headline for the newest issue of the tabloid. He warns her that Edick may come around asking questions about him, and he admits that he's Janet's ex-husband. Kat feigns disinterest at first but then curses him, and Renbe asks for help.
Charlie returns to his room and finds Bill there with more ideas for his park project. As he describes them, Charlie grabs a pillow and smothers him for a few minutes. He then lets Bill go and says that he might have killed his wife because she talked about too many stupid ideas. Shocked, Bill gets out.
Joe and Janet eventually find their way back to the town. Janet refuses to go down, but Joe warns that they'll freeze to death, and he'll get her out. He assures Janet that as long as they are alive, they will get another chance. Joe tells her to stay alive for Megan, and Janet starts walking back to town. Graham and Moira are talking as Joe and Janet enter the hotel and take the elevator upstairs. As they go, Janet asks Joe to stay in her room that night and keep her company.
Another taxi drives into town. Victoria sees it, thanks her father via the surveillance camera, , and goes downstairs. A new taxi driver addresses her by name and invites her to get in. Once she's inside, the taxi driver leaves town with his passenger.
The next morning, Joe leaves the sleeping Janet in her room and goes to the Shanghai Palace. He talks to the head waiter, Tom, and asks for takeout. Tom takes him into the walk-in freezer to examine some vegetables... and escorts him into a hidden room. Joe demands answers and tells him not to quote the training manual, and asks what the plan is for Janet. Tom says he doesn't know anything, and wouldn't give it to him if he did. When Joe wonders if he can do it again, Tom asks him if he's threatening withdrawal. He demands a simple yes or no, and Joe finally says no. Tom asks if he believes in the process, and tells him that if he does, he has to accept the results. They shake hands and Joe leaves.
