Poirot is a single Belgian detective. He began his career before the Great War of 1914-18 with the Brussels police, but he is now a freelance based in London. There is no false modesty about him, but his high opinion of his abilities is rightly shared by the world at large. Apart from his pompous streak, Poirot also has a keen (and sometimes childish) sense of humour. |
