Episode Notes
Ash earns his second badge, The Cascade Badge

This is the second badge Ash earned without really defeating the gym leader.

Who's That Pokemon?: Seel

First appearance of Misty's Starmie

Gym Line-Ups:
Ash: Butterfree, Pidgeotto
Misty: Staryu, Starmie

Included on Viz Video's VHS collection "The Sisters of Cerulean City".

This is the first time that Brock flirts with a girl. This will go on for almost every episode that he is in for the rest of the show.

This is the second badge Ash earned without really defeating the gym leader.

Pokémon Debuts: Starmie, Seel.

This is the first appearance of Misty's older sisters, Daisy, Lily, and Violet.

Brock's absence during the episode is never explained, and is the source of much speculation among fans.

This episode has led many fans to believe that Misty's last name is Waterflower. In actuality, the words "water flowers" used in the title are merely a metaphor used to describe the three sisters' grace and beauty, and their own names come from flower species.

This is the second time real animals are shown. Fish are seen behind the glass when Ash walks into the aquarium. Real animals were only shown in the first season (due to the lack of Pokémon resembling several real-world animals in Kanto, although it is unknown why the fish Pokémon Goldeen and Seaking weren't shown).

Episode Quotes
Misty: Ash, you don't want to go to Cerulean City.
Ash: Why not?
Misty: Because they're all -
Ash: All what?
Misty: Very scary ghost pokemon that look like this (Misty makes a face) like monsters!
Ash: (laughs) Nice face, Misty!

Seal: (while clapping fins together) Seal, seal, seal, seal.
Daisy: (To Seal) Like who's side are you clapping for?

Misty: We got to protect the Pokemon!
Violet: Like what about my hair?!

Misty: I'm the fourth Sensational Sister!
Lily: There are only three Sensational Sisters and one runt. (Misty growls at Lily)

Misty: Oh, no! Staryu's in real pain!
Ash: How can you tell? It doesn't even have a face!

James: It's times like these that make me want to go straight.

Episode Goofs
In this episode James' Rose is blue instead of red.

Daisy, Lily, and Violet say that Goldeen is the only Pokémon they had left and can't use it with only one attack unless it evolves, whilst all the others are at the Pokémon Center. What about Seel?

In the Spanish dub, when Misty's sister calls for Seel, she said "See-al".

In Dub, The outside of the store Team Rocket loot simply says "MASHIIN" (machine) in the Japanese version, while it says "MACHINE SHOP INDUSTRIAL SUPPLIES ALL MAKES AND MODELS" in the dub. The next shot replaces "RUUMU" with "LS".

In Dub, Like the Pewter Gym, the "Hanada Gym" sign is changed to "Cerulean Gym".
