Now that Ash has won a badge at Azalea Town, Ash and co. continue their journey in search for the next gym. Ash and co. are walking through a forest. Misty notices that the trees are very thick. Ash wonders if the forest even has a name. Brock looks at his map and finds out that they are in the Ilex Forest. Misty thinks the place is a bit creepy. Brock reassures her that all they have to do is follow the map, and they won't get lost. Misty tells Brock that he always says that, and they always get lost...

The Gold, Silver and Crystal versions of the Pokémon games include a segment where you have to find a missing Farfetch'd in the Ilex Forest.
The shrine in the Ilex Forest, according to Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, is the place Celebi first visits when it returns to Johto.

In the dub, the shrine in the middle of the forest was called the "Spirit Of The Forest". In the unedited version, it was [called] the "God Of The Forest".
In the original, when Brock talks about the uses of charcoal, he explains that he uses charcoal to make his rice balls. Brock explains that the rice comes from Pewter City, the water comes from Mt. Moon, and that the charcoal comes from the forest. He says that placing charcoal in the rice makes the rice taste better.
Misty sent out all of her Pokémon to look for Farfetch'd, but she did not send out Staryu, even though it can walk on land. She also did not send out Goldeen, for obvious reasons.
Yosaku is Sylvester's dad in the dub, while he is actually Sylvester's master in the original.
Meowth: I can smell it with my nose!
Meowth doesn't have a nose.
