A Goldenrod Opportunity - Recap

After a long journey, Ash and co. have finally made it to Goldenrod City. Ash and co. find out that Goldenrod City is humungous and filled with people. There are shops everywhere, and the buildings are tall. Misty is eyeing on the shops, and Brock is admiring the city girls. Then Misty and Brock find a hamburger place, and they want to stop for some lunch. Ash tells them that they came to Goldenrod City so that he can win a gym badge. Because Ash is anxious to start his battle, he runs off towards the gym, and Misty and Brock follow him.

When Ash and co. arrive at the gym, they find a sign saying that the gym is closed until the next day. With that being said, Ash and co. decide to have some fun in Goldenrod City. Brock says that they can go to the Goldenrod Galleria. Brock searches for the galleria, but he can't find it because Goldenrod City is so big, and that there are a lot of dead ends. Suddenly, Pikachu senses something. It runs towards the street and bumps into a Clefairy. Ash picks up the Clefairy, hoping that it didn't get hurt. A girl comes running toward them. She hopes that her Clefairy didn't hurt Pikachu. The girl picks up Pikachu and kisses it. Brock wants the girl to kiss him too, but Misty pulls him away.

The girl tells Ash and co. that she can take them to the galleria, since she knows Goldenrod City very well. She introduces herself as Whitney, and then Ash and co. introduce themselves to her. Whitney points to a staircase that leads underground. She states that going underground is easier because there is less traffic. When they go underground, Whitney knows a shortcut that can lead them to the galleria. However, the shortcut leads them further away from the galleria. Whitney tries another shortcut, but that leads them to a Pokémon salon. Apparently, Whitney doesn't know her way to the galleria. Ash's stomach growls. He wants food. Brock asks Whitney if she knows her way back to the hamburger place. Whitney thinks she knows, so she leads them into a direction. Whitney actually leads Ash and co. to the Goldenrod Galleria without realizing it at first. Even though they didn't find the hamburger place, at least they found the galleria. Whitney runs towards the galleria but crashes at the door. Whitney assumed the doors were automatic, but they weren't.

Meanwhile, Team Rocket is at a grocery store. Jessie and Meowth are busy eating some of the food. James doesn't think they have enough money, but Meowth explains to him that they can eat at the store for free because of free samples. James doesn't know what free samples are because of his sheltered life when he was a kid. Nevertheless, James begins to eat the food too. The store manager shows up and asks Team Rocket if they plan on buying anything. Team Rocket responds with their motto. The manager shows them a small plate with the free samples. Everything else must be paid for. Because Team Rocket has no money, they have to work until everything is paid for.

While working, Team Rocket finds a Clefairy in the store. They change back into their "Team Rocket" clothes, and then run out towards the Clefairy. Ash and co. are finally done with all the shopping. Misty bought the packages, and Ash and Brock have to carry them. Now it's time for Whitney and Clefairy to leave, but Clefairy isn't with them. Pikachu senses something and begins to run. Ash and co. run out to find what Pikachu senses. Team Rocket finds the Clefairy. Jessie snatches it and places it in a bag. Ash and co. see Team Rocket stealing Whitney's Clefairy. Team Rocket runs away from them.

Team Rocket comes across the new Magnet Train Station. They run inside the station and ask an officer when the next train will arrive. The officer tells them that the trains haven't even been built yet. Meowth spots a hand car that they can use to get away, and Team Rocket jumps in it. Jessie and James power it up, but it is running very slow. Ash and co. then run up to the station. Ash tells Pikachu to use Thundershock. Before Pikachu can shock Ash, Jessie gives back Clefairy. Whitney thanks Ash for rescuing her Clefairy. Suddenly, Mewoth swipes Pikachu, and Team Rocket begins to make their getaway again. Whitney orders Clefairy to use Metronome. Clefairy uses Metronome and creates a Gust. Because of the Gust, the bag that holds Pikachu falls out of Meowth's hands, and Ash grabs it. Then Pikachu uses its Thunder attack on Team Rocket. The electricity activates the engine in the hand car, and they speed off.

Ash thanks Whitney for rescuing Pikachu. Whitney sees that Pikachu is strong and dreams of having a battle with it. Ash tells Whitney that they plan on having a battle at the Goldenrod City gym. Whitney states that she could've taken them there, but Misty tells her that it was closed. Whitney then responds by saying that she is the gym leader of the gym. This surprises Ash and co.

Ash and co. have arrived at the Goldenrod City gym. The battle between Ash and Whitney is about to begin. The referee announces that they will be having a 3-on-3 battle, and then it begins. Whitney sends out Nidorina, and Ash chooses Cyndaquil. Nidorina starts off with Poison Sting, but Cyndaquil counters with Flamethrower. Then Nidorina charges towards Cyndaquil with its Tackle attack. Cyndaquil uses Flamethrower one more time. The flames burn Nidorina, and it faints. Cyndaquil wins the first round.

Whitney's next Pokémon is Clefairy. Clefairy starts off with its Metronome attack. Ash tells Cyndaquil to hang on, as anything can come out from the Metronome. When the Metronome is finished, Clefairy uses a Splash attack. After that, Cyndaquil uses Flamethrower. Whitney knows that CLefairy can't take it anymore, so she calls it back. Cyndaquil wins the second round. Ash is beginning to think that the battle with Whitney is too easy, but Whitney reminds Ash that she still has one Pokémon left.

Whitney's last Pokémon is Miltank. Ash looks up Miltank in his Pokédex. Judging by the Pokédex's description of Miltank, Ash thinks Miltank is the pushover Pokémon. Miltank starts off with its Rollout attack. Cyndaquil uses Tackle several times, but they are no match for Miltank. After the fourth Rollout attack, Cyndaquil faints. Ash returns Cyndaquil back into its Pokéball.

Ash's second Pokémon is Totodile. Miltank uses its Rollout attack again. Totodile tries to stop Miltank with its Water Gun, but the water has no effect on Miltank. Miltank slams into Totodile, and Totodile faints. Ash thinks of which Pokémon he should send out next. Brock states that Miltank got wet from the water, so he should go with Pikachu. With one Pokémon left, Ash sends in Pikachu. Pikachu uses a Thundershock attack on Miltank. The electricity hits Miltank, but it has no effect on it. Whitney says that Miltank is already dry since it's spinning so fast. Miltank then hits Pikachu with its Rollout attack. Pikachu is still able to get up. Miltank hits Pikachu again with Rollout. Pikachu tries to get up again, but it falls. Whitney wins the battle.

Whitney tells Ash that he can have a rematch whenever he wants. Then she walks away. Misty and Brock think that Whitney and her Miltank are pretty unbeatable, but Ash is still determined to win.
