Ash and friends are continuing their Island Hopping adventure on the way to Mossdeep Island. They have reached a famous beach and Brock starts to go crazy over the girls. Just then, a man emerges from the water covered in seaweed. The gang freaks out and starts thinking up crazy ideas about what it is until the man drops the bag he's holding and pulls off the seaweed. He introduces himself as Adam, the Man of the Sea. The group asks Adam what he has in the bag and he pulls out what he thinks is Emeralds. After taking them back to his shop, he introduces them to his wife, Evelyn. She disappoints him by telling him that they are only Green Shards. Adam tells the gang the story of King Neptune, a sunken ship. It was caught in the middle of a ferocious typhoon and everyone was thrown overboard. Luckily, they all made it onto the lifeboats and to safety... Adam explains that he found the Green Shard necklace on attached to a Relicanth's fin. Ash looks up Relicanth in his Pokédex. Adam says that he plans to go back out to sea and find the Relicanth. Outside in the bushes, Team Rocket is listening in. They plan to steal the treasure and give to the boss in the form of a solid gold bed and silver furniture. Out from the island a little ways, Adam, Ash, May, Max and Brock are in the submarine while Evelyn waits on the boat above water. Adam takes the gang underwater and they see a whole bunch of water Pokémon. Adam finds Relicanth on the radar and starts his pursuit of the creature. Team Rocket has now boarded their Magikarp sub and Jessie isn't too happy about being in it. James lets out Chimecho in hopes that it will make their job easier but it doesn't help. They pedal faster and crash into Adam's sub. Evelyn asks if everyone's ok; as Adam confirms, Team Rocket speeds past in pursuit of the Relicanth. They rush into a current and water starts to pour into the sub. Jessie says that it isn't much water but then it starts gushing and Chimecho cries out, "CHI-I-I-I-I-I-ME!" Adam sees Team Rocket get swept into the current, and then watches Relicanth dive into it also. He says they are going in, and as they do so, they lose radio contact with Evelyn. Everyone faints as they go deeper into the current and they wake up in the blazing sunlight, still in the sub. Adam asks if everyone's ok and they exit the sub. Outside, they appear to be in an underwater cave and see the wreck of a sunken ship. They realize it is the King Neptune. In the waters below and in the ship, tons of Relicanth swim around happily. Adam enters the ship to find the treasure, exiting with it to find Team Rocket arrive in their Magikarp sub through a crevice in the wall. After saying their motto, they steal the treasure and fire missiles at the King Neptune, destroying what was the Relicanth's home. They get very angry and surround the Magikarp sub. Meowth fires more missiles at them. Ash sends out Grovyle and has it use Bullet Seed on the missiles so they never reach the Relicanth. Team Rocket quickly boards their sub and pedals out of the cave, Meowth sending missiles at the entrance and caving it in. Adam and friends believe they're trapped until the Relicanth lead them out of the cave through an underwater route. Radio contact comes back in with Evelyn and she scolds her husband for taking it off. Back on the ship, Adam says he failed at retrieving the treasure and that Team Rocket has it but it turns out that Evelyn had been tracking Team Rocket. They find the trio on another island and confront them for the treasure. May tries to have Bulbasaur get it with Vine Whip but the trio grabs it. A couple of attacks later, Team Rocket is blasting off again and Adam has his treasure, which turns out to be... Green Shards. Adam is disappointed but Evelyn says that they can make lots of Green Shard necklaces and Adam cheers up He wishes the Relicanth luck in finding a new home. ..
