Ash and friends are now on small, rocky, Muscle Island. There isn't much on the island but luckily, there is a ferry to Mossdeep City that night, according to Brock. Venturing around, they find nothing but rocks. Meanwhile, Team Rocket's sub arrives on the island. Everyone jumps out of it, Meowth saying that it's going to blow. Nothing happens except for a wave taking the sub to the bottom of the sea. Meowth thanks James for noticing that the sub was filling with water and James yells that Meowth "opened the window!" A little ways in the island, Ash and friends come upon a gang of people exercising with Pokémon. The leader of the group, Rocky, comes over and introduces himself to the gang and says that since they are there and the exercise group is almost the only thing on the island, they should stay and exercise. They agree while Team Rocket watches from the bushes. Meowth gets the idea that they could be Giovanni's bodyguards if they trained there and became stronger. Jessie gets mad at him but James likes the idea so they introduce themselves to the training group. Meanwhile, Max is trying to lift a heavy Pokéball but can't. The man training him says that it's because it weighs 30 pounds. May is training on an exercise bike shaped like a Pokéball. Ash and Pikachu are hanging onto ropes that swivel trying to grasp each other's ropes but without much success. Team Rocket is now set onto treadmills and appear to be having fun. The gang reports them as not the kind of people you want around camp but the trainers say that they aren't doing anything wrong so they can stay. Rocky challenges Ash to a battle, saying that they don't get many visitors. May and Max want to watch but according to the rules of Muscle Island, aren't allowed to. A ways from the training area, Rocky asks Ash if they can have a Double Battle. When Ash agrees, he sends out a Quagsire and a Walrein. Thinking it will be easy to beat to Water Pokémon, Ash sends in Pikachu and Grovyle. Ash starts the battle with a Thunderbolt but Quagsire jumps in Walrein's path and absorbs the shock. Only then does Ash realize that Quagsire is part Ground Type too. Back at the camp, May, Max and Brock are doing sit-ups with their feet held down by Geodudes. At the treadmills, Jessie and Meowth are starting to get tired but James is still going full speed. On the battlefield, Rocky orders an Ice Ball from Walrein. Pikachu and Grovyle dodge it with Quick Attack and Ash attempts to have Pikachu go in for an Iron Tail. Grovyle goes for a Leaf Blade but Walrein and Quagsire switch places and neither attacks do any damage. Another Ice Ball is fired and both Pikachu and Grovyle are hit as they try to block with Iron Tail and Leaf Blade. At the camp, the trio are now doing push-ups with Pokémon on their backs. May has Bulbasaur, Max has Skitty and Brock has Lombre. Meowth and Jessie are still tired and are walking on their treadmills while James is still jogging. Jessie and Meowth plan an escape. Jessie points to the sky, saying that she sees a UFO. James stupidly looks up and can't see it. He keeps running on the treadmill and Jessie and Meowth's plan is ruined. Back at the battle, Rocky orders a third Ice Ball. Ash orders Grovyle to use Bullet Seed but Quagsire and Walrein take cover behind some rocks. Ash commands a Leaf Blade/Iron Tail attack on the next Ice Ball but they are hit again. At the camp, Max gets an idea. He tells the trainers that they left something on their boat. The trainers offer to get it for them but May and Brock say it is hard to describe because it's so big and that they'd rather get it themselves. As they pass Team Rocket, Jessie and Meowth get mad. Meowth yells to the trainers that he left the oven on and Jessie tells them that she forgot to water the plants. James objects to this saying that their sub is at the bottom of the ocean. Jessie and Meowth round on him and the scene switches back to the battle. Rocky orders another Ice Ball and Ash realizes that as each Ball is fired up, it takes longer than the last one to charge and, in effect, is stronger. Taking advantage of the time it takes to charge, Ash orders a Thunderbolt but Quagsire blocks it. A Leaf Blade from Grovyle takes out Quagsire, leaving Pikachu to fire a Thunderbolt at the still-charging Walrein for the win. Rocky compliments Ash on taking advantage of the fact that each Ice Ball takes a little longer to charge. Brock, May and Max arrive and compliment Ash on winning. As the sun is setting, Ash and friends are finally on the ferry that will take them to Mossdeep City and the next Gym. Some sailors emerge from the bridge and try to take Pikachu from Ash. They reveal themselves to be Team Rocket and Jessie swings a net at Pikachu. The two groups struggle over the net and Pikachu lets loose a bolt of lightning that sends Team Rocket flying off in one direction and Ash, May, Max, Brock and Pikachu flying off the other...
