Recap

The scene is brought to the inside of a house. A Nyruma is sleeping next to a window, and an alarm is beeping from upstairs. A girl named Dawn shuts it off. She pulls the bed sheet over her head. The narrator states that Dawn will be getting her first Pokémon today. Dawn opens the window and looks outside. Then Dawn gets dressed for her big day. Her mother comes in and makes sure that Dawn is awake. She notices that Dawn is up unusually early this morning. Dawn says hello to Nyruma who just sleeps on Dawn's bed...

Episode Notes
The series is now called Pokemon: Diamond and Pearl.

This is marks the first appearances for Dawn, Dawn's Mother, and Prof. Rowan.

This episode mainly based around Dawn and not Ash. Ash and Team Rocket only appear in the final scene.

Brock does not appear in this episode.

The starter Pokemon for the Sinnoh Region are: Turtwig, Piplup, and Chimchar

Jessiebelle makes a cameo in James' thoughts.

Dawns Starly clock appears to be a Shiny Starly.

Beginning with this episode, Kayzie Rogers no longer voices Wobbuffet. Instead the show now uses archived voices of Wobbuffet from the past 6 seasons.

This episode sets a record for the least amount of screen time Ash has ever had in an episode.

When this episode aired as part of the Season 10 sneak-peek it was aired along with the Season 10 theme song. In all future airings, the song is replaced with the season logo.

Pokémon Debuts: Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup, Starly, Staravia, Staraptor, Bidoof, Mesprit, Bibarel, Budew, Glameow.

Dawn reads the episode title instead of Ash.

This is the first time that a Route is cleary mark in the show (with this case being Route 201). However, Brock did mention Route 24 in Episode 11.

This episode aired as a Season 10 sneak-peak on Cartoon Network on Friday April 20, 2007 along with Two Degrees of Separation! and When Pokémon Worlds Collide!

Dawn begins her journey to become a master of Super Contests, and chooses Piplup as her starter.

Dawn and Piplup see the Legendary Pokémon Mesprit at Lake Verity.

The part where Dawn thinks about having each of the Sinnoh starters echoes Ash's dream in the first episode. Incidentally, Ash's first choice for a starter was the Water-type of his region, Squirtle.

Piplup's behavior when Dawn offered it food is exactly as described in the Pokédex: Piplup have high pride and hate to receive food from people.

Dawn seeing Mesprit is mentioned in Dawn of a New Era! where Ash links it to his seeing Ho-Oh as a starting trainer, though the scene is more similar to his seeing Suicune on the way to New Bark Town.

Ash later encounters Azelf at Lake Valor in a later episode in the same way that Dawn encountered Mesprit. Much speculation as to who will encounter Uxie is being made at the current time, with major candidates being Brock and Paul.

The eyecatches are of Dawn alone.
