The show opened with Spence coming quietly down the stairs at her house after midnight in hopes of raiding the fridge for a late night snack when she heard some whispering which caught her attention. Tiptoeing very quietly, she found her sister Melissa and Melissa's new husband, Ian, exchanging whispers near the stove. Stopping suddenly, Spence held her breath then turned swiftly and began climbing the stairs. Melissa walked to the bottom of the stairs, calling out, hello, hello, but got no answer. Melissa and Ian left the kitchen to return to the guesthouse where they lived. A few minutes later, Spence returned to the kitchen She got her snack and noticing her laptop on the counter, she opened it.
There was a message from "A" which said, "Married for love or an alibi?" A puzzled and worried Spence shut the laptop's cover and went upstairs to finish sleeping. At Aria's house the next morning, , Aria and her brother, Mike, sat at the dining table while their father made breakfast. Their dad seemed happy as he handed over the eggs and bacon he'd made and then stood up and said that their mother was dating other people. Mike seemed disgusted and asked his father what he was going to do about it to which the man replied that there was nothing that he could do. Mike stood up and asked to be excused and rushed out the door to school. Aria just raised an eyebrow and commiserated with her father, eating her meal with relish.
Agent Cooper ran into Spence and her friend at a local coffee shop and the girls seemed surprised to see her. Cooper said that she was looking for Alison's killer and had some leads to check into. The girls wished her the best of luck. Doing some checking of her own, Spence figured out that Ian had been at Hilton Head the weekend that Alison had disappeared. Was Noel Con trying to help the girls find Alli's killer? That could explain why he was back in town and seemed to pop up now and then. Hannah and her mother sat in their car, talking about the money her mother had taken. Hannah seemed concerned that her mother might not be able to pay the money back in time to avoid being arrested and was making plans of her own to make some money to repay the "loan" though she had not shared those plans with her parent. Her mother said not to be concerned, that it would be paid back in time.
Ezra Fitz was sitting in his classroom at his desk marking students' papers when Noel Con appeared in the doorway. Noel was holding a paper marked with a grad that Fitz had given him yesterday. Noel was upset with the grade and told Fitz that he felt his paper deserved an "A" and if he didn't get it, then he couldn't play in Friday night's game. Noel hinted that if he didn't get the grade he wanted, that he might let it slip that he knew Fitz was having an affair with Aria. Fitz agreed to give Noel the "A". Hannah opened her school locker to find money inside with a note to meet Toby later that day. The word "killer" was sprayed on Toby's locker and the boy was escorted by policemen through the school halls toward his classes.
Hannah received a text from "A" telling her that if she wanted to make some money to go to the coffee shop and eat the six pig-faced large cupcakes waiting there for her in a pink box. Hannah, in the past, had had trouble with extra weight she had carried around and also with binging and purging and the text brought back all those bad memories, but she was determined to make enough money to pay back the purloined money her mother had taken. Determinedly, Hannah sat down at the table outside and opened the box. She grimaced at the pig face on the big cupcakes and picked up one, biting into it. A group of boys sat down at the table next to hers and began to jeer at her, making lewd and rude remarks at her.
She ignored them and ate all the cupcakes after she read the next message from "A", it saying that she knew how to get rid of the cupcakes. She choked down every last bite. After finishing the pastries, she went into the bathroom and considered purging, but didn't do it. Washing her hands, she turned to the paper towel dispenser, pulling down the first sheet and finding several large bills pasted to it. Stuffing those into her purse, she pulled down the next sheet, finding more bills there. The third sheet was empty, but she had gotten her money. She headed home. At the Fields house, Mrs. Fields rummaged through Emily's friend, Maya's, backpack that she had left there. Mrs. Fields found a small metal box containing marijuana and a pipe. She was dismayed and called Maya's parents who promptly decided to send Maya to a boot camp to straighten the girl out.
Mrs. Fields told Emily that she was forbidden to see or talk to Maya which made Em very unhappy and sent her into tears. Emily sat down in her bedroom and pondered on how she might circumvent her mother's and Maya's parents' plan to keep the two lovers apart, but couldn't seem to come up with an immediate plan. Emily felt that her world had come to a screeching halt and she might never be happy again. Mike told Aria that he had heard a rumor that Fitz was having an affair with a student.
That sent Aria straight to Fitz' apartment where she told him about it> Fitz said that there was nothing he could do, that he would be ruined, so the best thing would to be to quit. Fitz said that he valued his teaching position greatly and did not want to be put in a bad light by a student such as Noel but he did not see any other answer to it than to leave town as soon as possible. Aria tried to comfort Fitz, but there seemed to be no foreseeable and immediate answer to this dilemma. Written By David Sibert Share this article with your friends
