All In The Family - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
The show opened with Violet and husband Pete in their living room, baby Luke bouncing around with his toys as Violet diligently sewed his homemade Halloween costume. Pete told Violet that she could easily get a very good Halloween costume for Luke at a good store in town, but Violet said she wanted to make the child one. The two began talking about childhood Halloween memories, Violet asking Pete about his mother (in prison for manslaughter) and his estranged brother, Adam. The two men had been separated as teenagers and Pete had not seen his brother since and told Violet he didn't want to talk about him further. Pete left hurriedly for work leaving Violet in a quandary. Violet decided to use a search engine to locate brother Adam and try to reconnect the two brothers despite Pete's protestations. She informed best friend Cooper all about it and Cooper said that she might want to leave the matter alone since Pete was so adamant.

Cooper and Charlotte were rolling round in bed discussing making a baby when Charlotte told him to stop staring at her belly, him trying to picture a baby in her womb. She left the room in a huff and went to work angrily. Cooper looked after her retreating back with a puzzled and exasperated expression. He decided that he would pursue the matter later in Charlotte's office by surprising her, locking the door and pulling down the blinds despite her angry protestations. He pulled down his pants just as she told him not to, prompting her to toss the office door open, leaving him standing there with his barn door flapping in the breeze, so to speak. He hurriedly pulled up his pants and followed after her, but she dodged him and left the building. Later that day, he brought her a nice little cake in a pink bakery box and after she asked him why he was trying to bribe her with sweets, he just shrugged and said he would see her later at home. She took it with a wry smile and returned to work.

A man in his late thirties, Jacob, came in with a young man of twenty two, Evan, victims of a car accident. The older man was not injured but seemed quite upset, not wanting to stay around, though Evan had been injured and needed looking after. The police were there at the hospital to question Jacob, and he reluctantly complied. Blood tests from both men showed that they were HIV positive. When Jacob was questioned by the attending doctor, it was revealed that Evan had told the staff he was a male prostitute but the two men had not had sex. Jacob had strong feelings for Evan and considered the two a couple. The only problem was that Angela, Jacob's wife, was consulting with Charlotte about having a baby with Jacob. Angela was totally unaware that Jacob was gay or HIV positive. At the consulting offices, the male doctor who had attended the two men saw Jacob at the offices with Angela and quickly understood the situation. He felt compelled to tell Charlotte the truth and she was shocked but agreed that Angela deserved to know.

Once Jacob, Evan and Angela were gathered in Charlotte's office, the situation was revealed in full to Angela, who was understandably shocked and dismayed, but she seemed to accept that Jacob should come out of the closet and live his life the way he felt was right for him. Jacob was sitting on the couch holding hands with Evan, telling Angela that he felt a very strong bond with young Evan whilst Angela cried without angst. She stood up, touching Jacob's hand and face with tenderness, tears of love and sadness pouring down her cheeks, but when Jacob was prompted by Charlotte to confess the entire truth, that he was HIV positive, then Angela slapped Jacob's face hard and left the room in anger and confusion. Jacob looked down at Evan and cried. He understood, then, that he could not possibly continue living two lives, living a lie. He had to have come clean with his wife of twenty years and understand that he could not have a child with her and still keep his young lover.

A man, Bob Schwartz, stood beside the bed of his brain dead wife who had been in a coma for more than two years while tests were being run at his request on her as she lay unconscious in a convalescent home. He was describing to the doctors how Georgie, his wife, seemed to respond to his voice and other stimuli. The doctors gently told him that she may have seemed responsive, but that it was most likely just primitive stem responses.
Blood tests revealed that Georgie was several months pregnant. Further verbal investigation revealed that Jacob was the father when the question of rape was kicked about. It seemed that Bob was rather out of touch with reality in dealing with his wife's coma. The next day, Georgie began to bleed copiously and was rushed to the hospital where the baby died but they were able to save the woman. Charlotte went to the woman's recovery room where she overheard Bob sorrowfully telling an oblivious Georgie that he was very sorry that she had lost the fetus but that the good news was that they could try again. That made Charlotte back out of the room and call the police, which is what she had wanted to do ever since it was discovered that Bob was the father of the coma patient's pregnancy. Georgie was removed from Bob's custody and put into protective custody. Charlotte expressed sorrow to Cooper that such a thing had been done to a coma patient and was relieved that Georgie was safe from her husband's ministrations now.

Charlotte was preparing to leave her office at the end of a long day at work, turning off her laptop, shutting off the light, stepping out of the office when she was accosted by a dark haired man unknown to her. He grabbed her from behind, wrenching her hands behind her back, knocking her purse to the ground, shoving her into her office, intent on raping her. The scene faded as he threw her face down upon her desk.
